But of the times and the seasons, brethren, ye have no need that I write unto you.

Maar aangaande die tye en die seisoene, broers, het julle nie nodig dat ek aan julle skrywe nie.

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night.

Want julle self weet volkome dat die dag van die Here so kom soos ‚'n dief in die nag.

3

For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.

Want wanneer hulle sê, Vrede en veiligheid; dan kom skielike verderwing oor hulle, soos die barensnood oor ’n vrou met kind; en hulle sal nie ontvlug nie.

But ye, brethren, are not in darkness, that that day should overtake you as a thief.

Maar julle, broers, is nie in duisternis nie, dat daardie dag julle soos ‚'n dief sou oorval.

5

Ye are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, nor of darkness.

Julle is almal kinders van die lig, en kinders van die dag: ons is nie van die nag, of van die duisternis nie.

6

Therefore let us not sleep, as [do] others; but let us watch and be sober.

Laat ons daarom nie slaap soos die ander nie; maar laat ons waak en nuchter wees.

7

For they that sleep sleep in the night; and they that be drunken are drunken in the night.

Want hulle wat slaap, slaap in die nag; en hulle wat dronk is, is in die nag dronk.

8

But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

Maar laat ons, wat van die dag is, nuchter wees, aangetrek met die borsplaat van geloof en liefde; en as ‚'n helm, die hoop van die heil.

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,

Want God het ons nie tot toorn bestem nie, maar om die heil te verkry deur onse Here Jesus Christus,

10

Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Wat vir ons gesterwe het, dat, of ons waak of slaap, ons saam met Hom sou lewe.

11

Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.

Daarom vertroos mekaar, en bou die een die ander op, soos julle ook doen.

12

And we beseech you, brethren, to know them which labour among you, and are over you in the Lord, and admonish you;

En ons bid julle, broers, om hulle te ken wat arbeid onder julle, en oor julle is in die Here, en julle vermaan;

13

And to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. [And] be at peace among yourselves.

En om hulle uitermate hoog te ag in liefde om hulle werk ontwil. En wees in vrede onder mekaar.

14

Now we exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all [men].

Nou vermaan ons julle, broers, vermaan die onordelikes, vertroos die kleingemoediges, ondersteun die swakkes, wees lankmoedig teenoor almal.

15

See that none render evil for evil unto any [man]; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all [men].

Sien toe dat niemand kwaad vir kwaad aan iemand vergeld nie; maar volg altyd dit na wat goed is, beide onder julle self, en teenoor almal.

16

Rejoice evermore.

Verbly julle altyd.

17

Pray without ceasing.

Bid sonder ophou.

18

In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.

In alles dank: want dit is die wil van God in Christus Jesus aangaande julle.

19

Quench not the Spirit.

Blus die Gees nie uit nie.

20

Despise not prophesyings.

Verag die profesieë nie.

21

Prove all things; hold fast that which is good.

Beproef alle dinge; hou vas aan wat goed is.

22

Abstain from all appearance of evil.

Onthou julle van alle skyn van die kwaad.

23

And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and [I pray God] your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

En die God van vrede self heilig julle geheel en al; en ek bid God dat julle hele gees en siel en liggaam onberispelik bewaar mag word tot die koms van onse Here Jesus Christus.

Faithful [is] he that calleth you, who also will do [it].

Getrou is Hy wat julle roep, wat dit ook sal doen.

25

Brethren, pray for us.

Broers, bid vir ons.

26

Greet all the brethren with an holy kiss.

Groet al die broers met ‚'n heilige soen.

27

I charge you by the Lord that this epistle be read unto all the holy brethren.

Ek besweer julle by die Here dat hierdie brief aan al die heilige broers voorgelees word.

28

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ [be] with you. Amen.

Die genade van onse Here Jesus Christus sy met julle. Amen.
