1
So Abijah slept with his fathers, and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead. In his days the land was quiet ten years.
So het Abía dan by sy vaders ontslaap, en hulle het hom in die stad van Dawid begrawe: en Asa sy seun het in sy plek as koning geregeer. In sy dae was die land tien jaar lank stil.

And Asa did [that which was] good and right in the eyes of the LORD his God:
En Asa het gedoen wat goed en reg was in die oë van die HERE sy God:

For he took away the altars of the strange [gods], and the high places, and brake down the images, and cut down the groves:
Want hy het die altare van die vreemde gode, en die hoogtes, weggedoen, en die beelde verbreek, en die Astarot afgekap:

And commanded Judah to seek the LORD God of their fathers, and to do the law and the commandment.
En hy het Juda beveel om die HERE, die God van hulle vaders, te soek, en om die wet en die gebod te doen.

Also he took away out of all the cities of Judah the high places and the images: and the kingdom was quiet before him.
Ook het hy uit al die stede van Juda die hoogtes en die sonbeelde weggedoen: en die koninkryk was stil voor hom.

And he built fenced cities in Judah: for the land had rest, and he had no war in those years; because the LORD had given him rest.
En hy het versterkte stede in Juda gebou: want die land was stil, en hy het geen oorlog in daardie jare gehad nie, omdat die HERE hom rus gegee het.

Therefore he said unto Judah, Let us build these cities, and make about [them] walls, and towers, gates, and bars, [while] the land [is] yet before us; because we have sought the LORD our God, we have sought [him], and he hath given us rest on every side. So they built and prospered.
Daarom het hy tot Juda gesê, Laat ons hierdie stede bou, en mure rondom hulle maak, met torings, poorte, en grendels, terwyl die land nog voor ons is; omdat ons die HERE onse God gesoek het, ons het Hom gesoek, en Hy het ons rus aan elke kant gegee. So het hulle dan gebou en voorspoedig gewees.

And Asa had an army [of men] that bare targets and spears, out of Judah three hundred thousand; and out of Benjamin, that bare shields and drew bows, two hundred and fourscore thousand: all these [were] mighty men of valour.
En Asa het ’n leër gehad van manne wat skilde en spiese gedra het, uit Juda driehonderd duisend; en uit Benjamin, wat skilde gedra en die boog gespandeer het, twee en twintig duisend en tweehonderd: al hierdie was dapper manne van mag.

And there came out against them Zerah the Ethiopian with an host of a thousand thousand, and three hundred chariots; and came unto Mareshah.
En daar het teen hulle uitgegaan Serag die Etiopiër met ’n leër van ’n duisend duisend, en driehonderd strydwaens; en hy het by Maresa gekom.

Then Asa went out against him, and they set the battle in array in the valley of Zephathah at Mareshah.
Toe het Asa teen hom uitgegaan, en hulle het die geveg in slagorde gestel in die dal van Sefata by Maresa.

And Asa cried unto the LORD his God, and said, LORD, [it is] nothing with thee to help, whether with many, or with them that have no power: help us, O LORD our God; for we rest on thee, and in thy name we go against this multitude. O LORD, thou [art] our God; let not man prevail against thee.
En Asa het tot die HERE sy God geroep, en gesê, HERE, dit is niks by U om te help, of met baie, of met die wat geen mag het nie: help ons, o HERE onse God; want ons rus op U, en in u Naam gaan ons teen hierdie menigte. O HERE, U is onse God; laat die mens nie teen U seëvier nie.

So the LORD smote the Ethiopians before Asa, and before Judah; and the Ethiopians fled.
So het die HERE dan die Etiopiërs voor Asa, en voor Juda, verslaan; en die Etiopiërs het gevlug.

And Asa and the people that [were] with him pursued them unto Gerar: and the Ethiopians were overthrown, that they could not recover themselves; for they were destroyed before the LORD, and before his host; and they carried away very much spoil.
En Asa en die volk wat by hom was, het hulle agtervolg tot by Gerar: en die Etiopiërs is neergewerp, dat hulle nie kon herstel nie; want hulle is voor die HERE, en voor sy leër, vernietig; en hulle het baie prooi weggevoer.

And they smote all the cities round about Gerar; for the fear of the LORD came upon them: and they spoiled all the cities; for there was exceeding much spoil in them.
En hulle het al die stede rondom Gerar verslaan; want die vrees van die HERE het op hulle gekom: en hulle het al die stede geplunder; want daar was baie prooi in hulle.

They smote also the tents of cattle, and carried away sheep and camels in abundance, and returned to Jerusalem.
Hulle het ook die tente van die vee geslaan, en skape en kamele in menigte weggevoer, en na Jérusalem teruggekeer.
