And Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead, and strengthened himself against Israel.

En Josafat sy seun het in sy plek as koning geregeer, en homself teen Israel versterk.

And he placed forces in all the fenced cities of Judah, and set garrisons in the land of Judah, and in the cities of Ephraim, which Asa his father had taken.

En hy het leërs in al die versterkte stede van Juda geplaas, en garnisoene in die land van Juda, en in die stede van Efraim, wat Asa sy vader geneem het, gesit.

And the LORD was with Jehoshaphat, because he walked in the first ways of his father David, and sought not unto Baalim;

En die HERE was met Josafat, omdat hy in die eerste weë van sy vader Dawid gewandel het, en die Baäls nie gesoek het nie;

But sought to the [LORD] God of his father, and walked in his commandments, and not after the doings of Israel.

Maar die God van sy vader gesoek het, en in sy gebooie gewandel het, en nie na die doen van Israel nie.

Therefore the LORD stablished the kingdom in his hand; and all Judah brought to Jehoshaphat presents; and he had riches and honour in abundance.

Daarom het die HERE die koninkryk in sy hand bevestig; en die hele Juda het aan Josafat geskenke gebring; en hy het rykdom en eer in menigte gehad.

And his heart was lifted up in the ways of the LORD: moreover he took away the high places and groves out of Judah.

En sy hart is verhef in die weë van die HERE: bowendien het hy die hoogtes en bosse uit Juda weggedoen.

Also in the third year of his reign he sent to his princes, [even] to Benhail, and to Obadiah, and to Zechariah, and to Nethaneel, and to Michaiah, to teach in the cities of Judah.

Ook in die derde jaar van sy regering het hy sy vorstes, selfs Ben-Hail, en Obadja, en Sagarja, en Netáneël, en Migaía, gestuur om in die stede van Juda te onderrig.

And with them [he sent] Levites, [even] Shemaiah, and Nethaniah, and Zebadiah, and Asahel, and Shemiramoth, and Jehonathan, and Adonijah, and Tobijah, and Tobadonijah, Levites; and with them Elishama and Jehoram, priests.

En by hulle het hy Leviete gestuur, selfs Semája, en Netanja, en Sebadja, en Asahel, en Semíramot, en Jonatan, en Adonía, en Tobía, en Tob-Adonía, Leviete; en by hulle Elisama en Joram, priesters.

And they taught in Judah, and [had] the book of the law of the LORD with them, and went about throughout all the cities of Judah, and taught the people.

En hulle het in Juda onderrig, en die boek van die wet van die HERE by hulle gehad, en deur al die stede van Juda gegaan, en die volk onderrig.

And the fear of the LORD fell upon all the kingdoms of the lands that [were] round about Judah, so that they made no war against Jehoshaphat.

En die vrees van die HERE het op al die koninkryke van die lande geval wat rondom Juda was, sodat hulle nie teen Josafat geveg het nie.

Also [some] of the Philistines brought Jehoshaphat presents, and tribute silver; and the Arabians brought him flocks, seven thousand and seven hundred rams, and seven thousand and seven hundred he goats.

Ook van die Filistyne het Josafat geskenke gebring, en silwer as belasting; en die Arabiere het hom kuddes gebring, seweduisend en sewehonderd ramme, en seweduisend en sewehonderd bokke.

And Jehoshaphat waxed great exceedingly; and he built in Judah castles, and cities of store.

En Josafat het buitengewoon groot geword; en hy het in Juda kastele, en stede van voorraad gebou.

And he had much business in the cities of Judah: and the men of war, mighty men of valour, [were] in Jerusalem.

En hy het baie besigheid in die stede van Juda gehad: en die manne van oorlog, dapper manne van mag, was in Jérusalem.

14

And these [are] the numbers of them according to the house of their fathers: Of Judah, the captains of thousands; Adnah the chief, and with him mighty men of valour three hundred thousand.

En dit is die getalle van hulle volgens die huis van hulle vaders: Van Juda, die kapteins van duisende; Adna die hoof, en by hom dapper manne van mag driehonderd duisend.

And next to him [was] Jehohanan the captain, and with him two hundred and fourscore thousand.

En volgende by hom was Johanan die kaptein, en by hom twee en twintig duisend en tweehonderd.

And next him [was] Amasiah the son of Zichri, who willingly offered himself unto the LORD; and with him two hundred thousand mighty men of valour.

En volgende by hom was Amásia die seun van Sigri, wat homself willig aan die HERE gegee het; en by hom tweehonderd duisend dapper manne van mag.

17

And of Benjamin; Eliada a mighty man of valour, and with him armed men with bow and shield two hundred thousand.

En van Benjamin; Eliáda ’n dapper man van mag, en by hom gewapen met boog en skild tweehonderd duisend.

18

And next him [was] Jehozabad, and with him an hundred and fourscore thousand ready prepared for the war.

En volgende by hom was Jehosabad, en by hom ’n honderd en tagtig duisend gereed tot die leër.

19

These waited on the king, beside [those] whom the king put in the fenced cities throughout all Judah.

Dit is dié wat die koning bedien het, behalwe dié wat die koning in die versterkte stede deur die hele Juda gesit het.
