Now Jehoshaphat had riches and honour in abundance, and joined affinity with Ahab.

Nou het Josafat rykdom en eer in menigte gehad, en hy het homself met Agab verwant.

And after [certain] years he went down to Ahab to Samaria. And Ahab killed sheep and oxen for him in abundance, and for the people that [he had] with him, and persuaded him to go up [with him] to Ramothgilead.

En ná seker jare het hy afgegaan na Agab by Samaría. En Agab het vir hom en die volk wat by hom was, skape en osse in menigte geslag, en hom oorgehaal om op te trek na Ramot-Gílead.

And Ahab king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat king of Judah, Wilt thou go with me to Ramothgilead? And he answered him, I [am] as thou [art], and my people as thy people; and [we will be] with thee in the war.

En Agab koning van Israel het tot Josafat koning van Juda gesê, Sal jy met my gaan na Ramot-Gílead? En hy het hom geantwoord, Ek is soos jy, en my volk soos jou volk; en ons sal met jou wees in die oorlog.

And Jehoshaphat said unto the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of the LORD to day.

En Josafat het tot die koning van Israel gesê, Raadpleeg tog vandag die woord van die HERE.

Therefore the king of Israel gathered together of prophets four hundred men, and said unto them, Shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And they said, Go up; for God will deliver [it] into the king’s hand.

Daarom het die koning van Israel van die profete bymekaargemaak vierhonderd man, en tot hulle gesê, Sal ons na Ramot-Gílead gaan om te veg, of moet ek dit nalaat? En hulle het gesê, Trek op; want God sal dit in die koning se hand gee.

But Jehoshaphat said, [Is there] not here a prophet of the LORD besides, that we might inquire of him?

Maar Josafat het gesê, Is hier nie nog ’n profeet van die HERE nie, dat ons by hom mag raadpleeg nie?

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, [There is] yet one man, by whom we may inquire of the LORD: but I hate him; for he never prophesied good unto me, but always evil: the same [is] Micaiah the son of Imla. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

En die koning van Israel het tot Josafat gesê, Daar is nog een man, deur wie ons die HERE mag raadpleeg: maar ek haat hom; want hy profesieer nooit goeie dinge aangaande my nie, maar altyd kwaad: dieselfde is Miga die seun van Jimla. En Josafat het gesê, Laat die koning nie so sê nie.

And the king of Israel called for one [of his] officers, and said, Fetch quickly Micaiah the son of Imla.

En die koning van Israel het een van sy amptenare geroep, en gesê, Haal haastig Miga die seun van Jimla.

And the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah sat either of them on his throne, clothed in [their] robes, and they sat in a void place at the entering in of the gate of Samaria; and all the prophets prophesied before them.

En die koning van Israel en Josafat koning van Juda het elkeen op sy troon gesit, gekleed in hulle klere, en hulle het in ’n oop plek by die ingang van die poort van Samaría gesit; en al die profete het voor hulle geprofeteer.

And Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah had made him horns of iron, and said, Thus saith the LORD, With these thou shalt push Syria until they be consumed.

En Sedekía die seun van Kenána het vir hom ysterhorings gemaak, en gesê, So sê die HERE, Met hierdie sal jy die Síriërs stoot, totdat jy hulle verteer.

And all the prophets prophesied so, saying, Go up to Ramothgilead, and prosper: for the LORD shall deliver [it] into the hand of the king.

En al die profete het so geprofeteer, en gesê, Trek op na Ramot-Gílead, en voorspoed: want die HERE sal dit in die hand van die koning gee.

And the messenger that went to call Micaiah spake to him, saying, Behold, the words of the prophets [declare] good to the king with one assent; let thy word therefore, I pray thee, be like one of theirs, and speak thou good.

En die boodskapper wat gegaan het om Miga te roep, het met hom gespreek, en gesê, Kyk, die woorde van die profete verkondig eenparig goeie dinge aan die koning met een mond: laat jou woord daarom, ek bid jou, soos een van hulle wees, en spreek goeie dinge.

And Micaiah said, [As] the LORD liveth, even what my God saith, that will I speak.

En Miga het gesê, So waar as die HERE lewe, selfs wat my God sê, dit sal ek spreek.

And when he was come to the king, the king said unto him, Micaiah, shall we go to Ramothgilead to battle, or shall I forbear? And he said, Go ye up, and prosper, and they shall be delivered into your hand.

En toe hy by die koning gekom het, het die koning tot hom gesê, Miga, moet ons na Ramot-Gílead gaan om te veg, of moet ek dit nalaat? En hy het gesê, Trek op, en voorspoed, en hulle sal in julle hand oorgegee word.

And the king said to him, How many times shall I adjure thee that thou say nothing but the truth to me in the name of the LORD?

En die koning het tot hom gesê, Hoeveel maal moet ek jou besweer dat jy my niks anders as die waarheid in die Naam van die HERE sal sê nie?

Then he said, I did see all Israel scattered upon the mountains, as sheep that have no shepherd: and the LORD said, These have no master; let them return [therefore] every man to his house in peace.

Toe het hy gesê, Ek het die hele Israel sien verstrooi op die berge, soos skape wat geen herder het nie: en die HERE het gesê, Hierdie het geen meester nie; laat hulle elkeen in vrede na sy huis terugkeer.

And the king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, Did I not tell thee [that] he would not prophesy good unto me, but evil?

En die koning van Israel het tot Josafat gesê, Het ek jou nie gesê dat hy nie goeie dinge aangaande my sou profesieer nie, maar kwaad?

Again he said, Therefore hear the word of the LORD; I saw the LORD sitting upon his throne, and all the host of heaven standing on his right hand and [on] his left.

Weer het hy gesê, Hoor daarom die woord van die HERE; Ek het die HERE sien sit op sy troon, en die hele leër van die hemel aan sy regterhand en aan sy linkerhand staan.

And the LORD said, Who shall entice Ahab king of Israel, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one spake saying after this manner, and another saying after that manner.

En die HERE het gesê, Wie sal Agab koning van Israel oortuig dat hy mag optrek en by Ramot-Gílead val? En die een het so gesê, en die ander so.

Then there came out a spirit, and stood before the LORD, and said, I will entice him. And the LORD said unto him, Wherewith?

Toe het daar ’n gees uitgekom, en voor die HERE gestaan, en gesê, Ek sal hom oortuig. En die HERE het tot hom gesê, Waarmee?

And he said, I will go out, and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And [the LORD] said, Thou shalt entice [him], and thou shalt also prevail: go out, and do [even] so.

En hy het gesê, Ek sal uitgaan, en ’n leuengees wees in die mond van al sy profete. En die HERE het gesê, Jy sal oortuig, en ook die oorhand kry: gaan uit, en doen so.

Now therefore, behold, the LORD hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of these thy prophets, and the LORD hath spoken evil against thee.

Nou dan, kyk, die HERE het ‚'n leuengees in die mond van hierdie jou profete gesit, en die HERE het kwaad aangaande jou gespreek.

Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near, and smote Micaiah upon the cheek, and said, Which way went the Spirit of the LORD from me to speak unto thee?

Toe het Sedekía die seun van Kenána nader gekom, en Miga op die wang geslaan, en gesê, Watter pad is die Gees van die HERE van my af weggegaan om met jou te spreek?

And Micaiah said, Behold, thou shalt see on that day when thou shalt go into an inner chamber to hide thyself.

En Miga het gesê, Kyk, jy sal dit sien op daardie dag wanneer jy in ’n binneste kamer ingaan om jou te verberg.

Then the king of Israel said, Take ye Micaiah, and carry him back to Amon the governor of the city, and to Joash the king’s son;

Toe het die koning van Israel gesê, Neem Miga, en bring hom terug na Amon die owerste van die stad, en na Joas die koning se seun;

And say, Thus saith the king, Put this [fellow] in the prison, and feed him with bread of affliction and with water of affliction, until I return in peace.

En sê, So sê die koning, Sit hierdie een in die gevangenis, en voed hom met brood van verdrukking en met water van verdrukking, totdat ek in vrede terugkeer.

And Micaiah said, If thou certainly return in peace, [then] hath not the LORD spoken by me. And he said, Hearken, all ye people.

En Miga het gesê, As jy enigsins in vrede terugkeer, het die HERE nie deur my gespreek nie. En hy het gesê, Hoor, al julle volke.

So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat the king of Judah went up to Ramothgilead.

So het die koning van Israel en Josafat die koning van Juda dan opgetrek na Ramot-Gílead.

And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, I will disguise myself, and will go to the battle; but put thou on thy robes. So the king of Israel disguised himself; and they went to the battle.

En die koning van Israel het tot Josafat gesê, Ek sal my vermom, en in die geveg ingaan; maar trek jy jou klere aan. So het die koning van Israel homself vermom; en hulle het in die geveg ingegaan.

Now the king of Syria had commanded the captains of the chariots that [were] with him, saying, Fight ye not with small or great, save only with the king of Israel.

Nou het die koning van Sírië die kapteins van die strydwaens wat hy gehad het, beveel, en gesê, Veg nie met klein of groot nie, behalwe net met die koning van Israel.

And it came to pass, when the captains of the chariots saw Jehoshaphat, that they said, It [is] the king of Israel. Therefore they compassed about him to fight: but Jehoshaphat cried out, and the LORD helped him; and God moved them [to depart] from him.

En dit was so, toe die kapteins van die strydwaens Josafat sien, dat hulle gesê het, Dit is die koning van Israel. Daarom het hulle omgedraai om teen hom te veg: maar Josafat het uitgeroep, en die HERE het hom gehelp; en God het hulle van hom af weggedraai.

For it came to pass, that, when the captains of the chariots perceived that it was not the king of Israel, they turned back again from pursuing him.

Want dit was so, toe die kapteins van die strydwaens gemerk het dat dit nie die koning van Israel was nie, dat hulle van agter hom af teruggekeer het.

And a [certain] man drew a bow at a venture, and smote the king of Israel between the joints of the harness: therefore he said to his chariot man, Turn thine hand, that thou mayest carry me out of the host; for I am wounded.

En ’n sekere man het ’n pyl op ’n avontuur getrek, en die koning van Israel tussen die gewrigte van die harnas getref: daarom het hy tot sy strydwa-drywer gesê, Draai jou hand om, en bring my uit die leër; want ek is verwond.

And the battle increased that day: howbeit the king of Israel stayed [himself] up in [his] chariot against the Syrians until the even: and about the time of the sun going down he died.

En die geveg het daardie dag toegeneem: hoebeit die koning van Israel het homself in sy strydwa teen die Síriërs opgehou tot die aand: en omtrent die tyd van die sonsondergang is hy gesterwe.
