Then said Solomon, The LORD hath said that he would dwell in the thick darkness.

Toe het Salomo gesê, Die HERE het gesê dat Hy in die digte duisternis sou woon.

2

But I have built an house of habitation for thee, and a place for thy dwelling for ever.

Maar ek het ‚'n huis van woonplek vir U gebou, en ‚'n plek vir u woning vir ewig.

And the king turned his face, and blessed the whole congregation of Israel: and all the congregation of Israel stood.

En die koning het sy aangesig omgedraai, en die hele vergadering van Israel geseën: en die hele vergadering van Israel het gestaan.

And he said, Blessed [be] the LORD God of Israel, who hath with his hands fulfilled [that] which he spake with his mouth to my father David, saying,

En hy het gesê, Geseënd is die HERE, die God van Israel, wat met sy mond tot Dawid my vader gespreek het, en met sy hande vervul het, en gesê het,

Since the day that I brought forth my people out of the land of Egypt I chose no city among all the tribes of Israel to build an house in, that my name might be there; neither chose I any man to be a ruler over my people Israel:

Van die dag af dat ek my volk uit die land Egipte uitgebring het, het ek geen stad gekies onder al die stamme van Israel om ‚'n huis te bou in, dat my Naam daar sou wees nie; en ek het geen man gekies om ‚'n vors te wees oor my volk Israel nie:

But I have chosen Jerusalem, that my name might be there; and have chosen David to be over my people Israel.

Maar ek het Jérusalem gekies, dat my Naam daar mag wees; en ek het Dawid gekies om oor my volk Israel te wees.

7

Now it was in the heart of David my father to build an house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

Nou was dit in die hart van Dawid my vader om ‚'n huis te bou tot die Naam van die HERE, die God van Israel.

8

But the LORD said to David my father, Forasmuch as it was in thine heart to build an house for my name, thou didst well in that it was in thine heart:

Maar die HERE het tot Dawid my vader gesê, Omdat dit in jou hart was om ’n huis tot my Naam te bou, jy het goed gedoen in dat dit in jou hart was:

Notwithstanding thou shalt not build the house; but thy son which shall come forth out of thy loins, he shall build the house for my name.

Nogtans moet jy nie die huis bou nie; maar jou seun wat uit jou lendene sal voortkom, hy sal die huis tot my Naam bou.

10

The LORD therefore hath performed his word that he hath spoken: for I am risen up in the room of David my father, and am set on the throne of Israel, as the LORD promised, and have built the house for the name of the LORD God of Israel.

Die HERE het daarom sy woord vervul wat Hy gespreek het: want ek is opgestaan in die plek van Dawid my vader, en sit op die troon van Israel, soos die HERE beloof het, en het die huis gebou tot die Naam van die HERE, die God van Israel.

And in it have I put the ark, wherein [is] the covenant of the LORD, that he made with the children of Israel.

En in dit het ek die ark gesit, waarin die verbond van die HERE is, wat Hy met die kinders van Israel gemaak het.

12

And he stood before the altar of the LORD in the presence of all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands:

En hy het voor die altaar van die HERE gestaan in die teenwoordigheid van die hele vergadering van Israel, en sy hande uitgestrek:

13

For Solomon had made a brasen scaffold, of five cubits long, and five cubits broad, and three cubits high, and had set it in the midst of the court: and upon it he stood, and kneeled down upon his knees before all the congregation of Israel, and spread forth his hands toward heaven,

Want Salomo het ’n koperverhoog gemaak, vyf el lank, en vyf el breed, en drie el hoog, en dit in die midde van die voorhof gesit: en op dit het hy gestaan, en op sy knieë neergekniel voor die hele vergadering van Israel, en sy hande na die hemel uitgestrek,

And said, O LORD God of Israel, [there is] no God like thee in the heaven, nor in the earth; which keepest covenant, and [shewest] mercy unto thy servants, that walk before thee with all their hearts:

En gesê, O HERE, God van Israel, daar is geen God soos U in die hemel of op die aarde nie; wat die verbond en barmhartigheid bewaar vir u dienaars wat voor U wandel met hulle hele hart:

15

Thou which hast kept with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him; and spakest with thy mouth, and hast fulfilled [it] with thine hand, as [it is] this day.

U wat u dienaar Dawid my vader gehou het wat U hom beloof het; en het met u mond gespreek, en met u hand vervul, soos dit vandag is.

16

Now therefore, O LORD God of Israel, keep with thy servant David my father that which thou hast promised him, saying, There shall not fail thee a man in my sight to sit upon the throne of Israel; yet so that thy children take heed to their way to walk in my law, as thou hast walked before me.

Nou dan, o HERE, God van Israel, hou met u dienaar Dawid my vader wat U hom beloof het, en gesê het, Daar sal nie vir jou ’n man ontbreek in my aangesig om op die troon van Israel te sit nie; as net jou kinders op hulle weg ag gee om in my wet te wandel soos jy voor My gewandel het.

Now then, O LORD God of Israel, let thy word be verified, which thou hast spoken unto thy servant David.

Nou dan, o HERE, God van Israel, laat u woord bevestig word, wat U tot u dienaar Dawid gespreek het.

18

But will God in very deed dwell with men on the earth? behold, heaven and the heaven of heavens cannot contain thee; how much less this house which I have built!

Maar sal God inderdaad by die mens op die aarde woon? kyk, die hemel en die hemel van die hemele kan U nie bevat nie; hoeveel te minder hierdie huis wat ek gebou het!

19

Have respect therefore to the prayer of thy servant, and to his supplication, O LORD my God, to hearken unto the cry and the prayer which thy servant prayeth before thee:

Het daarom ag op die gebed van u dienaar, en op sy smeking, o HERE my God, om te luister na die geroep en die gebed wat u dienaar voor U bid:

20

That thine eyes may be open upon this house day and night, upon the place whereof thou hast said that thou wouldest put thy name there; to hearken unto the prayer which thy servant prayeth toward this place.

Dat u oë oop mag wees op hierdie huis dag en nag, op die plek waarvan U gesê het dat U u Naam daar sou sit; om te luister na die gebed wat u dienaar na hierdie plek toe bid.

21

Hearken therefore unto the supplications of thy servant, and of thy people Israel, which they shall make toward this place: hear thou from thy dwelling place, [even] from heaven; and when thou hearest, forgive.

Hoor daarom die smekinge van u dienaar, en van u volk Israel, wat hulle na hierdie plek toe sal bid: hoor U uit u woning, selfs uit die hemel; en wanneer U hoor, vergeef.

22

If a man sin against his neighbour, and an oath be laid upon him to make him swear, and the oath come before thine altar in this house;

As ’n man teen sy naaste sondig, en ’n eed op hom gelê word om hom te laat sweer, en die eed voor u altaar in hierdie huis kom;

23

Then hear thou from heaven, and do, and judge thy servants, by requiting the wicked, by recompensing his way upon his own head; and by justifying the righteous, by giving him according to his righteousness.

Dan hoor U uit die hemel, en doen, en oordeel u dienaars, deur die goddelose te vergeld, om sy weg op sy eie hoof te bring; en deur die regverdige te regverdig, deur hom te gee volgens sy geregtigheid.

24

And if thy people Israel be put to the worse before the enemy, because they have sinned against thee; and shall return and confess thy name, and pray and make supplication before thee in this house;

En as u volk Israel voor die vyand verslaan word, omdat hulle teen U gesondig het; en sal terugkeer en u Naam bely, en bid en smeek voor U in hierdie huis;

25

Then hear thou from the heavens, and forgive the sin of thy people Israel, and bring them again unto the land which thou gavest to them and to their fathers.

Dan hoor U uit die hemel, en vergeef die sonde van u volk Israel, en bring hulle weer in die land wat U aan hulle en aan hulle vaders gegee het.

26

When the heaven is shut up, and there is no rain, because they have sinned against thee; [yet] if they pray toward this place, and confess thy name, and turn from their sin, when thou dost afflict them;

Wanneer die hemel toegesluit is, en daar geen reën is nie, omdat hulle teen U gesondig het; tog as hulle na hierdie plek toe bid, en u Naam bely, en van hulle sonde afwend, wanneer U hulle verdruk;

27

Then hear thou from heaven, and forgive the sin of thy servants, and of thy people Israel, when thou hast taught them the good way, wherein they should walk; and send rain upon thy land, which thou hast given unto thy people for an inheritance.

Dan hoor U uit die hemel, en vergeef die sonde van u dienaars, en van u volk Israel, wanneer U hulle die goeie weg geleer het waarin hulle moet wandel; en stuur reën op u land, wat U aan u volk tot ’n erfenis gegee het.

28

If there be dearth in the land, if there be pestilence, if there be blasting, or mildew, locusts, or caterpillers; if their enemies besiege them in the cities of their land; whatsoever sore or whatsoever sickness [there be]:

As daar hongersnood in die land is, as daar pestilensie is, as daar brandkoring is, of sprinkaan, of ruspe; as hulle vyande hulle in die stede van hulle land beleër; watter plaag of watter siekte ook al daar is:

[Then] what prayer [or] what supplication soever shall be made of any man, or of all thy people Israel, when every one shall know his own sore and his own grief, and shall spread forth his hands in this house:

Dan watter gebed of watter smeking ook al deur enige mens, of deur al u volk Israel, gedoen sal word, wanneer elkeen sy eie plaag en sy eie smart ken, en sy hande na hierdie huis toe uitbrei:

30

Then hear thou from heaven thy dwelling place, and forgive, and render unto every man according unto all his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou only knowest the hearts of the children of men:)

Dan hoor U uit die hemel u woning, en vergeef, en gee aan elke man volgens al sy weë, wie se hart U ken; (want U alleen ken die harte van die kinders van die mens:)

31

That they may fear thee, to walk in thy ways, so long as they live in the land which thou gavest unto our fathers.

Dat hulle U mag vrees, om in u weë te wandel, solank as hulle in die land lewe wat U aan ons vaders gegee het.

32

Moreover concerning the stranger, which is not of thy people Israel, but is come from a far country for thy great name’s sake, and thy mighty hand, and thy stretched out arm; if they come and pray in this house;

Bowendien aangaande die vreemdeling, wat nie van u volk Israel is nie, maar uit ‚'n ver land gekom het om u groot Naam se ontwil, en u magtige hand, en u uitgestrekte arm; as hulle kom en in hierdie huis bid;

33

Then hear thou from the heavens, [even] from thy dwelling place, and do according to all that the stranger calleth to thee for; that all people of the earth may know thy name, and fear thee, as [doth] thy people Israel, and may know that this house which I have built is called by thy name.

Dan hoor U uit die hemele, selfs uit u woning, en doen volgens alles waarvoor die vreemdeling tot U roep; dat al die volke van die aarde u Naam mag ken, en U mag vrees, soos u volk Israel doen, en dat hulle mag weet dat hierdie huis wat ek gebou het, na u Naam genoem is.

34

If thy people go out to war against their enemies by the way that thou shalt send them, and they pray unto thee toward this city which thou hast chosen, and the house which I have built for thy name;

As u volk uittrek om teen hulle vyande te veg, by die pad wat U hulle sal stuur, en hulle tot U bid na hierdie stad toe wat U gekies het, en die huis wat ek tot u Naam gebou het;

35

Then hear thou from the heavens their prayer and their supplication, and maintain their cause.

Dan hoor U uit die hemele hulle gebed en hulle smeking, en behartig hulle saak.

36

If they sin against thee, (for [there is] no man which sinneth not,) and thou be angry with them, and deliver them over before [their] enemies, and they carry them away captives unto a land far off or near;

As hulle teen U sondig, (want daar is geen mens wat nie sondig nie,) en U toornig is op hulle, en hulle voor die vyand oorgee, en hulle hulle as gevangenes wegvoer na ‚'n land ver of naby;

37

Yet [if] they bethink themselves in the land whither they are carried captive, and turn and pray unto thee in the land of their captivity, saying, We have sinned, we have done amiss, and have dealt wickedly;

Nogtans as hulle tot inkeer kom in die land waarheen hulle as gevangenes weggevoer is, en hulle bekeer, en in die land van hulle ballingskap tot U smeek, en sê, Ons het gesondig, ons het verkeerd gehandel, en goddeloos gehandel;

If they return to thee with all their heart and with all their soul in the land of their captivity, whither they have carried them captives, and pray toward their land, which thou gavest unto their fathers, and [toward] the city which thou hast chosen, and toward the house which I have built for thy name:

As hulle tot U terugkeer met hulle hele hart en met hulle hele siel in die land van hulle ballingskap, waarheen hulle hulle as gevangenes weggevoer het, en bid na hulle land toe, wat U aan hulle vaders gegee het, en na die stad toe wat U gekies het, en na die huis toe wat ek tot u Naam gebou het:

39

Then hear thou from the heavens, [even] from thy dwelling place, their prayer and their supplications, and maintain their cause, and forgive thy people which have sinned against thee.

Dan hoor U uit die hemele, selfs uit u woning, hulle gebed en hulle smekinge, en behartig hulle saak, en vergeef u volk wat teen U gesondig het.

40

Now, my God, let, I beseech thee, thine eyes be open, and [let] thine ears [be] attent unto the prayer [that is made] in this place.

Nou, my God, laat, ek bid U, u oë oop wees, en laat u ore aandagtig wees tot die gebed wat in hierdie plek gedoen word.

41

Now therefore arise, O LORD God, into thy resting place, thou, and the ark of thy strength: let thy priests, O LORD God, be clothed with salvation, and let thy saints rejoice in goodness.

Staan nou op, o HERE God, in u rusplek, U, en die ark van u krag: laat u priesters, o HERE God, met heil beklee word, en laat u gunstelinge in goedheid juig.

42

O LORD God, turn not away the face of thine anointed: remember the mercies of David thy servant.

O HERE God, moenie die aangesig van u gesalfde afwend nie: dink aan die barmhartighede van Dawid u dienaar.
