Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, according to the promise of life which is in Christ Jesus,
Paulus, ‚'n apostel van Jesus Christus deur die wil van God, volgens die belofte van die lewe wat in Christus Jesus is,

To Timothy, [my] dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, [and] peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
Aan Timótheüs, my geliefde seun: Genade, barmhartigheid, en vrede, van God die Vader en Christus Jesus onse Here.

I thank God, whom I serve from [my] forefathers with pure conscience, that without ceasing I have remembrance of thee in my prayers night and day;
Ek dank God, wat ek van my voorouers af dien met ‚'n reine gewete, dat sonder ophou ek jou noem in my gebede nag en dag;
4
Greatly desiring to see thee, being mindful of thy tears, that I may be filled with joy;
Baie verlangende om jou te sien, omdat ek onthou jou trane, dat ek met blydskap vervul mag word;
5
When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also.
Wanneer ek die ongeveinsde geloof wat in jou is, in herinnering bring, wat eers in jou grootmoeder Loïs, en jou moeder Eunice, gewoon het; en ek is oortuig dat ook in jou.

Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands.
Daarom herinner ek jou om die gawe van God wat in jou is deur die oplegging van my hande, aan te wakker.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
Want God het ons nie ‚'n gees van vreesagtigheid gegee nie; maar van krag, en van liefde, en van ‚'n gesonde verstand.

Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God;
Skam jou daarom nie vir die getuienis van onse Here nie, en ook nie vir my sy gevangene nie: maar wees deelgenoot van die verdrukkinge van die evangelie volgens die krag van God;

Who hath saved us, and called [us] with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began,
Wat ons gered en geroep het met ’n heilige roeping, nie volgens ons werke nie, maar volgens sy eie voorneme en genade, wat ons in Christus Jesus gegee is voor die wêreld begin het,

But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:
Maar nou geopenbaar is deur die verskyning van onse Verlosser Jesus Christus, wat die dood tot niet gemaak het, en die lewe en onsterflikheid aan die lig gebring het deur die evangelie:

Whereunto I am appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher of the Gentiles.
Waartoe ek as ‚'n prediker, en ‚'n apostel, en ‚'n leraar van die heidene aangestel is.

For the which cause I also suffer these things: nevertheless I am not ashamed: for I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.
Om welke oorsaak ek ook hierdie dinge ly: nietemin skaam ek my nie: want ek weet wie ek geglo het, en is oortuig dat Hy in staat is om dit te bewaar wat ek aan Hom toevertrou het tot daardie dag.

Hold fast the form of sound words, which thou hast heard of me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus.
Hou vas die vorm van gesonde woorde, wat jy van my gehoor het, in geloof en liefde wat in Christus Jesus is.

That good thing which was committed unto thee keep by the Holy Ghost which dwelleth in us.
Daardie goeie ding wat aan jou toevertrou is, bewaar deur die Heilige Gees wat in ons woon.
15
This thou knowest, that all they which are in Asia be turned away from me; of whom are Phygellus and Hermogenes.
Dit weet jy, dat almal wat in Asië is, van my afgewend is; van wie is Figéllus en Hermogenes.

The Lord give mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus; for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain:
Die Here gee barmhartigheid aan die huis van Onesíforus; want hy het my dikwels verkwik, en was nie skaam vir my ketting nie:

But, when he was in Rome, he sought me out very diligently, and found [me].
Maar toe hy in Rome was, het hy my ywerig gesoek, en gevind.

The Lord grant unto him that he may find mercy of the Lord in that day: and in how many things he ministered unto me at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.
Die Here gee aan hom dat hy barmhartigheid mag vind van die Here in daardie dag: en in hoeveel dinge hy my in Efese bedien het, weet jy baie goed.
