And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
En die dinge wat jy van my gehoor het onder baie getuies, dieselfde gee in betroubaarheid oor aan getroue mense, wat in staat sal wees om ook andere te leer.

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.
Jy daarom verduur hardigheid, as ‚'n goeie soldaat van Jesus Christus.

No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of [this] life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.
Niemand wat oorlog voer, verwar homself met die sake van hierdie lewe nie; dat hy mag behaag Hom wat hom as soldaat uitgekies het.

And if a man also strive for masteries, [yet] is he not crowned, except he strive lawfully.
En as ‚'n mens ook meeding om die prys, word hy nie gekroon nie, tensy hy wettiglik meeding.

The husbandman that laboureth must be first partaker of the fruits.
Die landbouer wat arbei, moet eers van die vrugte deelneem.

Consider what I say; and the Lord give thee understanding in all things.
Oorweeg wat ek sê; en die Here gee jou verstand in alle dinge.

Remember that Jesus Christ of the seed of David was raised from the dead according to my gospel:
Onthou dat Jesus Christus, uit die saad van Dawid, uit die dooies opgewek is volgens my evangelie:

Wherein I suffer trouble, as an evil doer, [even] unto bonds; but the word of God is not bound.
Waarin ek verdrukking ly, selfs tot bande, soos ‚'n kwaaddoener; maar die woord van God is nie gebind nie.
10
Therefore I endure all things for the elect’s sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
Daarom verduur ek alle dinge om die uitverkorenes ontwil, dat hulle ook die heil wat in Christus Jesus is, met ewige heerlikheid mag verkry.

[It is] a faithful saying: For if we be dead with [him], we shall also live with [him]:
Dit is ‚'n getroue woord: Want as ons saam met Hom gesterwe het, sal ons ook saam lewe:
12
If we suffer, we shall also reign with [him]: if we deny [him], he also will deny us:
As ons verduur, sal ons ook saam heers: as ons Hom verloën, sal Hy ons ook verloën:
13
If we believe not, [yet] he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
As ons nie glo nie, bly Hy getrou: Hy kan Homself nie verloën nie.

Of these things put [them] in remembrance, charging [them] before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, [but] to the subverting of the hearers.
Hierdie dinge herinner hulle aan, en betuig voor die Here dat hulle nie om woorde twis nie, tot geen nut nie, maar tot die omverwerping van die hoorders.

Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
Bevlytig jou om jouself goedgekeur aan God voor te stel, ‚'n arbeider wat hom nie skaam nie, wat die woord van die waarheid reg sny.

But shun profane [and] vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.
Maar vermy onheilige en ydele gepraat: want hulle sal tot meer ongodsaligheid toeneem.
17
And their word will eat as doth a canker: of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus;
En hulle woord sal soos ’n kanker eet: van wie is Humenéüs en Filétus;

Who concerning the truth have erred, saying that the resurrection is past already; and overthrow the faith of some.
Wat aangaande die waarheid die teiken misgeloop het, sê dat die opstanding alreeds plaasgevind het; en die geloof van sommige omverwerp.
19
Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.
Nietemin die vaste fondament van God staan, hebbende hierdie seël, Die Here ken dié wat syne is. En, Laat elkeen wat die Naam van Christus noem, van ongeregtigheid afwyk.

But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.
Maar in ‚'n groot huis is daar nie alleen vate van goud en van silwer nie, maar ook van hout en van aarde; en sommige tot eer, en sommige tot oneer.
21
If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, [and] prepared unto every good work.
As ‚'n mens daarom homself hiervan reinig, sal hy ‚'n vat tot eer wees, geheilig, en nuttig vir die Meester, toeberei tot elke goeie werk.

Flee also youthful lusts: but follow righteousness, faith, charity, peace, with them that call on the Lord out of a pure heart.
Vlug ook die jeugdige luste: maar volg geregtigheid, geloof, liefde, vrede, saam met hulle wat die Here uit ‚'n reine hart aanroep.
23
But foolish and unlearned questions avoid, knowing that they do gender strifes.
Maar dwase en ongeleerde vrae vermy, wetende dat hulle twiste verwek.
24
And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all [men], apt to teach, patient,
En die dienaar van die Here moet nie twis nie; maar vriendelik wees teenoor almal, bekwaam om te leer, verdraagsaam,
25
In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;
In sagmoedigheid onderrigende dié wat hulself teëstel; as God miskien hulle bekering tot die kennis van die waarheid mag gee;
26
And [that] they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.
En dat hulle hulleself mag herwin uit die strik van die duiwel, wat deur hom gevange geneem is tot sy wil.
