There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of the band called the Italian [band],
Daar was ’n sekere man in Cesaréa, met die naam van Kornélius, ’n hoofman oor ’n honderd van die skare genaamd die Italiaanse skare,

[A] devout [man], and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway.
‚'n Godvresende man, en een wat God gevrees het met sy hele huis, wat baie aalmoese aan die volk gegee het, en altyd tot God gebid het.
3
He saw in a vision evidently about the ninth hour of the day an angel of God coming in to him, and saying unto him, Cornelius.
Hy het in ’n gesig openlik omtrent die negende uur van die dag ’n engel van God sien na hom kom, en tot hom sê, Kornélius.

And when he looked on him, he was afraid, and said, What is it, Lord? And he said unto him, Thy prayers and thine alms are come up for a memorial before God.
En toe hy na hom kyk, was hy bevrees, en het gesê, Wat is dit, Here? En hy het tot hom gesê, Jou gebede en jou aalmoese is opgegaan tot ’n gedagtenis voor God.

And now send men to Joppa, and call for [one] Simon, whose surname is Peter:
En nou stuur manne na Joppe, en laat haal Simon, wie se bynaam Petrus is:
6
He lodgeth with one Simon a tanner, whose house is by the sea side: he shall tell thee what thou oughtest to do.
Hy logeer by een Simon, ’n leerwerker, wie se huis by die see is: hy sal jou sê wat jy moet doen.
7
And when the angel which spake unto Cornelius was departed, he called two of his household servants, and a devout soldier of them that waited on him continually;
En toe die engel wat met Kornélius gespreek het, weggegaan het, het hy twee van sy huisknegte geroep, en ’n godvresende soldaat van hulle wat voortdurend by hom was;

And when he had declared all [these] things unto them, he sent them to Joppa.
En toe hy hulle al hierdie dinge verklaar het, het hy hulle na Joppe gestuur.

On the morrow, as they went on their journey, and drew nigh unto the city, Peter went up upon the housetop to pray about the sixth hour:
Die volgende dag, soos hulle op die pad was, en naby die stad gekom het, het Petrus op die dak opgeklim om te bid omtrent die sesde uur:

And he became very hungry, and would have eaten: but while they made ready, he fell into a trance,
En hy het baie honger geword, en wou eet: maar terwyl hulle gereed maak, het hy in ‚'n vervoering geraak,
11
And saw heaven opened, and a certain vessel descending unto him, as it had been a great sheet knit at the four corners, and let down to the earth:
En die hemel sien oopgaan, en ‚'n sekere vat op hom neerdaal, soos ‚'n groot laken, wat aan die vier hoeke vasgemaak is, en op die aarde neergelaat is:

Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
Waarin daar was allerhande viervoetige diere van die aarde, en wilde diere, en kruipende diere, en voëls van die hemel.

And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
En daar het ‚'n stem tot hom gekom, Staan op, Petrus; slag, en eet.
14
But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
Maar Petrus het gesê, Geensins, Here; want ek het nog nooit iets gemeen of onrein geëet nie.
15
And the voice [spake] unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, [that] call not thou common.
En die stem het weer die tweede maal tot hom gespreek, Wat God gereinig het, noem jy nie gemeen nie.
16
This was done thrice: and the vessel was received up again into heaven.
Dit is drie maal gebeur: en die vat is weer in die hemel opgeneem.
17
Now while Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon’s house, and stood before the gate,
Nou terwyl Petrus by homself twyfel wat hierdie gesig wat hy gesien het sou beteken, kyk, die manne wat van Kornélius gestuur is het by Simon se huis uitgevra, en by die poort gestaan,

And called, and asked whether Simon, which was surnamed Peter, were lodged there.
En geroep, en gevra of Simon, wat die bynaam Petrus het, daar logeer.
19
While Peter thought on the vision, the Spirit said unto him, Behold, three men seek thee.
Terwyl Petrus aan die gesig dink, het die Gees tot hom gesê, Kyk, drie manne soek jou.
20
Arise therefore, and get thee down, and go with them, doubting nothing: for I have sent them.
Staan daarom op, en gaan af, en gaan saam met hulle, twyfel niks: want ek het hulle gestuur.
21
Then Peter went down to the men which were sent unto him from Cornelius; and said, Behold, I am he whom ye seek: what [is] the cause wherefore ye are come?
Toe het Petrus afgegaan na die manne wat van Kornélius na hom gestuur is; en het gesê, Kyk, ek is hy wat julle soek: om watter oorsaak is julle hier?

And they said, Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, was warned from God by an holy angel to send for thee into his house, and to hear words of thee.
En hulle het gesê, Kornélius die hoofman oor ’n honderd, ’n regverdige man, en een wat God vrees, en van goeie getuienis by die hele nasie van die Jode, is van ’n heilige engel gewaarsku om jou na sy huis te laat haal, en om woorde van jou te hoor.

Then called he them in, and lodged [them]. And on the morrow Peter went away with them, and certain brethren from Joppa accompanied him.
Toe het hy hulle binnegeroep, en hulle gelogeer. En die volgende dag het Petrus saam met hulle gegaan, en sekere broers van Joppe het saam met hom gegaan.

And the morrow after they entered into Caesarea. And Cornelius waited for them, and had called together his kinsmen and near friends.
En die volgende dag het hulle in Cesaréa gekom. En Kornélius het op hulle gewag, en sy familie en naby vriende bymekaargeroep.
25
And as Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him, and fell down at his feet, and worshipped [him].
En soos Petrus binnegekom het, het Kornélius hom ontmoet, en aan sy voete neergeval, en hom aanbid.
26
But Peter took him up, saying, Stand up; I myself also am a man.
Maar Petrus het hom opgerig, sê, Staan op; ek self is ook ’n mens.
27
And as he talked with him, he went in, and found many that were come together.
En soos hy met hom gespreek het, het hy ingegaan, en baie gevind wat bymekaar gekom het.
28
And he said unto them, Ye know how that it is an unlawful thing for a man that is a Jew to keep company, or come unto one of another nation; but God hath shewed me that I should not call any man common or unclean.
En hy het tot hulle gesê, Julle weet hoe dit ’n onwettige ding is vir ’n man wat ’n Jood is om by een van ’n ander nasie aan te sluit, of by hom te kom; maar God het my gewys dat ek geen mens gemeen of onrein moet noem nie.

Therefore came I [unto you] without gainsaying, as soon as I was sent for: I ask therefore for what intent ye have sent for me?
Daarom het ek sonder teëspraak gekom toe ek gestuur is: ek vra daarom om watter bedoeling julle my gestuur het?
30
And Cornelius said, Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and, behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,
En Kornélius het gesê, Vier dae gelede was ek vas tot hierdie uur; en op die negende uur het ek in my huis gebid, en kyk, ’n man het voor my gestaan in helder klere,

And said, Cornelius, thy prayer is heard, and thine alms are had in remembrance in the sight of God.
En gesê, Kornélius, jou gebed is verhoor, en jou aalmoese is in gedagtenis voor God.
32
Send therefore to Joppa, and call hither Simon, whose surname is Peter; he is lodged in the house of [one] Simon a tanner by the sea side: who, when he cometh, shall speak unto thee.
Stuur daarom na Joppe, en laat haal Simon, wie se bynaam Petrus is; hy is gelogeer in die huis van een Simon, ‚'n leerwerker by die see: wat, wanneer hy kom, met jou sal spreek.

Immediately therefore I sent to thee; and thou hast well done that thou art come. Now therefore are we all here present before God, to hear all things that are commanded thee of God.
Dadelik het ek daarom na jou gestuur; en jy het goed gedoen dat jy gekom het. Nou is ons almal hier teenwoordig voor God, om te hoor alle dinge wat aan jou van God beveel is.
34
Then Peter opened [his] mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:
Toe het Petrus sy mond oopgemaak, en gesê, Van ’n waarheid bespeur ek dat God geen aannemer van persone is nie:
35
But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.
Maar in elke nasie is hy wat Hom vrees, en geregtigheid werk, by Hom aangenaam.
36
The word which [God] sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)
Die woord wat God aan die kinders van Israel gestuur het, en vrede verkondig deur Jesus Christus: (Hy is Here van almal:)
37
That word, [I say], ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;
Daardie woord, sê ek, weet julle, wat deur die hele Judea uitgegaan is, en begin het van Galilea, ná die doop wat Johannes gepreek het;
38
How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.
Hoe God Jesus van Nasaret gesalf het met die Heilige Gees en met krag: wat rondgegaan het en goed gedoen het, en almal genees het wat deur die duiwel onderdruk is; want God was met Hom.

And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:
En ons is getuies van al die dinge wat Hy beide in die land van die Jode, en in Jérusalem, gedoen het; wat hulle omgebring het en aan ’n hout gehang:
40
Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;
Hom het God op die derde dag opgewek, en Hom openlik vertoon;
41
Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before of God, [even] to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.
Nie aan die hele volk nie, maar aan getuies wat tevore deur God uitverkies is, selfs aan ons, wat saam met Hom geëet en gedrink het nadat Hy uit die dooies opgestaan het.
42
And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God [to be] the Judge of quick and dead.
En Hy het ons beveel om aan die volk te verkondig, en te getuig dat dit Hy is wat deur God aangestel is tot ‚'n Regter van die lewendes en die dooies.
43
To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.
Aan Hom gee al die profete getuienis, dat deur sy Naam elkeen wat in Hom glo, vergifnis van sondes sal ontvang.
44
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
Terwyl Petrus nog hierdie woorde gespreek het, het die Heilige Gees op almal geval wat die woord gehoor het.
45
And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
En dié van die besnydenis wat geglo het was verbaas, soveel as saam met Petrus gekom het, omdat dat op die heidene ook die gawe van die Heilige Gees uitgestort is.

For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
Want hulle het hulle hoor met tale spreek, en God groot maak. Toe het Petrus geantwoord,
47
Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Kan iemand water verbied, dat hierdie nie gedoop word nie, wat die Heilige Gees ontvang het soos ons ook?
48
And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.
En hy het beveel dat hulle gedoop word in die Naam van die Here. Toe het hulle hom gesmeek om ‚'n paar dae te bly.
