Then came he to Derbe and Lystra: and, behold, a certain disciple was there, named Timotheus, the son of a certain woman, which was a Jewess, and believed; but his father [was] a Greek:
Toe het hy by Derbe en Listra gekom: en kyk, ’n sekere dissipel was daar, met die naam van Timótheüs, die seun van ’n sekere vrou, wat ’n Jodin was wat geglo het; maar sy vader was ’n Griek:

Which was well reported of by the brethren that were at Lystra and Iconium.
Wat goeie getuienis gehad het van die broers wat in Listra en Ikonium was.

Him would Paul have to go forth with him; and took and circumcised him because of the Jews which were in those quarters: for they knew all that his father was a Greek.
Hom wou Paulus saam met hom laat gaan; en hy het hom geneem en besny vanweë die Jode wat in daardie oorde was: want hulle het almal geweet dat sy vader ’n Griek was.

And as they went through the cities, they delivered them the decrees for to keep, that were ordained of the apostles and elders which were at Jerusalem.
En soos hulle deur die stede gegaan het, het hulle aan hulle die beslissings oorgelewer om te hou, wat deur die apostels en ouderlinge wat in Jérusalem was, vasgestel is.

And so were the churches established in the faith, and increased in number daily.
En so is die gemeentes in die geloof bevestig, en het daagliks in getal toegeneem.

Now when they had gone throughout Phrygia and the region of Galatia, and were forbidden of the Holy Ghost to preach the word in Asia,
Nou toe hulle deur Frigië en die streek van Galasië gegaan het, en deur die Heilige Gees verbied is om die woord in Asië te verkondig,

After they were come to Mysia, they assayed to go into Bithynia: but the Spirit suffered them not.
Ná hulle by Misië gekom het, het hulle probeer om na Bitinië te gaan: maar die Gees het hulle nie toegelaat nie.

And they passing by Mysia came down to Troas.
En hulle, by Misië verbygaande, het afgekom na Troas.

And a vision appeared to Paul in the night; There stood a man of Macedonia, and prayed him, saying, Come over into Macedonia, and help us.
En ’n gesig het in die nag aan Paulus verskyn; Daar het ’n man van Masedonië gestaan, en hom gesmeek, sê, Kom oor na Masedonië, en help ons.

And after he had seen the vision, immediately we endeavoured to go into Macedonia, assuredly gathering that the Lord had called us for to preach the gospel unto them.
En nadat hy die gesig gesien het, het ons dadelik probeer om na Masedonië te gaan, en sekerlik afgelei dat die Here ons geroep het om die evangelie aan hulle te verkondig.

Therefore loosing from Troas, we came with a straight course to Samothracia, and the next [day] to Neapolis;
Daarom, van Troas afvaarende, het ons met ’n reguit koers na Samotrasië gekom, en die volgende dag na Neápolis;

And from thence to Philippi, which is the chief city of that part of Macedonia, [and] a colony: and we were in that city abiding certain days.
En van daar na Filippi, wat die hoofstad is van daardie deel van Masedonië, en ’n kolonie: en ons het in daardie stad ’n paar dae vertoef.

And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted [thither].
En op die sabbatdag het ons uit die stad uitgegaan by ‚'n rivier, waar gebed gewoonlik was; en ons het gaan sit, en tot die vroue gespreek wat daar bymekaargekom het.

And a certain woman named Lydia, a seller of purple, of the city of Thyatira, which worshipped God, heard [us]: whose heart the Lord opened, that she attended unto the things which were spoken of Paul.
En ’n sekere vrou, met die naam van Lídia, ’n verkoopster van purper, van die stad Tiatíra, wat God gedien het, het ons gehoor: wie se hart die Here oopgemaak het, dat sy ag gee op die dinge wat deur Paulus gespreek is.

And when she was baptized, and her household, she besought [us], saying, If ye have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house, and abide [there]. And she constrained us.
En toe sy gedoop is, en haar huisgesin, het sy ons gesmeek, sê, As julle geoordeel het dat ek getrou is aan die Here, kom in my huis, en bly daar. En sy het ons genood.

And it came to pass, as we went to prayer, a certain damsel possessed with a spirit of divination met us, which brought her masters much gain by soothsaying:
En dit het gebeur, soos ons na die gebed gegaan het, dat ’n sekere diensmeisie ons ontmoet het, wat ’n gees van waarsêery gehad het, en haar meesters baie wins verskaf het deur waarsêery.

The same followed Paul and us, and cried, saying, These men are the servants of the most high God, which shew unto us the way of salvation.
Dieselfde het Paulus en ons gevolg, en uitgeroep, sê, Hierdie manne is die dienaars van die Allerhoogste God, wat aan ons die weg van heil aankondig.

And this did she many days. But Paul, being grieved, turned and said to the spirit, I command thee in the name of Jesus Christ to come out of her. And he came out the same hour.
En dit het sy baie dae lank gedoen. Maar Paulus, ontsteld, het omgedraai en tot die gees gesê, Ek beveel jou in die Naam van Jesus Christus om uit haar uit te gaan. En hy het dieselfde uur uitgegaan.

And when her masters saw that the hope of their gains was gone, they caught Paul and Silas, and drew [them] into the marketplace unto the rulers,
En toe haar meesters sien dat die hoop van hulle wins weg was, het hulle Paulus en Silas gegryp, en hulle in die markplek na die owerstes getrek,
20
And brought them to the magistrates, saying, These men, being Jews, do exceedingly trouble our city,
En hulle na die magistraat gebring, sê, Hierdie manne, synde Jode, bring ons stad in groot onrus,
21
And teach customs, which are not lawful for us to receive, neither to observe, being Romans.
En leer gebruike, wat nie geoorloof is vir ons om te ontvang of te onderhou nie, omdat ons Romeine is.

And the multitude rose up together against them: and the magistrates rent off their clothes, and commanded to beat [them].
En die menigte het saam teen hulle opgestaan: en die magistraat het hulle klere afgeskeur, en beveel om hulle te slaan.

And when they had laid many stripes upon them, they cast [them] into prison, charging the jailor to keep them safely:
En toe hulle baie slae op hulle gelê het, het hulle hulle in die gevangenis gegooi, en die cipier beveel om hulle veilig te bewaar:
24
Who, having received such a charge, thrust them into the inner prison, and made their feet fast in the stocks.
Wat, nadat hy so ‚'n bevel ontvang het, het hulle in die binnegevangenis gegooi, en hulle voete in die stok vasgemaak.
25
And at midnight Paul and Silas prayed, and sang praises unto God: and the prisoners heard them.
En teen middernag het Paulus en Silas gebid, en God geloofsange gesing: en die gevangenes het hulle gehoor.

And suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken: and immediately all the doors were opened, and every one’s bands were loosed.
En skielik was daar ‚'n groot aardbewing, sodat die fondamente van die gevangenis geskud is: en dadelik is al die deure oopgemaak, en elkeen se bande is losgemaak.

And the keeper of the prison awaking out of his sleep, and seeing the prison doors open, he drew out his sword, and would have killed himself, supposing that the prisoners had been fled.
En die cipier, wakker wordende uit sy slaap, en sienende die gevangenisdeure oop, het sy swaard uitgetrek, en sou homself ombring, meenende dat die gevangenes ontsnap het.

But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here.
Maar Paulus het met ’n groot stem uitgeroep, sê, Doen jouself geen kwaad nie: want ons is almal hier.
29
Then he called for a light, and sprang in, and came trembling, and fell down before Paul and Silas,
Toe het hy ‚'n lig gevra, en ingehardloop, en bewend neergeval voor Paulus en Silas,
30
And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
En hulle uitgebring, en gesê, Here, wat moet ek doen om gered te word?
31
And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
En hulle het gesê, Glo in die Here Jesus Christus, en jy sal gered word, en jou huis.
32
And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
En hulle het die woord van die Here tot hom gespreek, en tot almal wat in sy huis was.
33
And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed [their] stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
En hy het hulle dieselfde uur van die nag geneem, en hulle wonde gewas; en is dadelik gedoop, hy en al sy huis.

And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.
En toe hy hulle in sy huis gebring het, het hy voor hulle ‚'n tafel gedek, en was bly, omdat hy met sy hele huis in God geglo het.
35
And when it was day, the magistrates sent the serjeants, saying, Let those men go.
En toe dit dag was, het die magistraat die geregsdienaars gestuur, sê, Laat daardie manne los.
36
And the keeper of the prison told this saying to Paul, The magistrates have sent to let you go: now therefore depart, and go in peace.
En die cipier het hierdie woorde aan Paulus vertel, Die magistraat het gestuur om julle los te laat: gaan nou daarom uit, en gaan in vrede.
37
But Paul said unto them, They have beaten us openly uncondemned, being Romans, and have cast [us] into prison; and now do they thrust us out privily? nay verily; but let them come themselves and fetch us out.
Maar Paulus het tot hulle gesê, Hulle het ons openlik geslaan, onveroordeel, synde Romeine, en ons in die gevangenis gegooi; en nou gooi hulle ons heimlik uit? nee waarlik; maar laat hulle self kom en ons uitbring.

And the serjeants told these words unto the magistrates: and they feared, when they heard that they were Romans.
En die geregsdienaars het hierdie woorde aan die magistraat vertel: en hulle was bevrees, toe hulle gehoor het dat hulle Romeine was.

And they came and besought them, and brought [them] out, and desired [them] to depart out of the city.
En hulle het gekom en hulle gesmeek, en hulle uitgebring, en begeer dat hulle uit die stad sou vertrek.
40
And they went out of the prison, and entered into [the house of] Lydia: and when they had seen the brethren, they comforted them, and departed.
En hulle het uit die gevangenis uitgegaan, en in die huis van Lídia ingegaan: en toe hulle die broers gesien het, het hulle hulle vertroos, en weggegaan.
