After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;

And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.
En ’n sekere Jood gevind, met die naam van Aquila, gebore in Pontus, onlangs uit Italië gekom, met sy vrou Priscilla; (omdat Klaudius beveel het dat al die Jode uit Rome moes vertrek:) en hy het by hulle gekom.

And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.
En omdat hy van dieselfde ambag was, het hy by hulle gebly, en gewerk: want hulle was tentmakers van ambag.

And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.
En hy het elke sabbat in die sinagoge geredeneer, en die Jode en die Grieke oortuig.

And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews [that] Jesus [was] Christ.
En toe Silas en Timótheüs van Masedonië afgekoms het, is Paulus in die gees aangedryf, en het aan die Jode getuig dat Jesus die Christus was.

And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook [his] raiment, and said unto them, Your blood [be] upon your own heads; I [am] clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles.
En toe hulle teëgestaan en gelaster het, het hy sy klere uitgeskud, en tot hulle gesê, Julle bloed is op julle eie hoofde; ek is rein: van nou af sal ek na die heidene gaan.

And he departed thence, and entered into a certain [man’s] house, named Justus, [one] that worshipped God, whose house joined hard to the synagogue.
En hy het daarvandaan vertrek, en in die huis van een gekom, met die naam van Justus, een wat God gedien het, wie se huis naby die sinagoge was.

And Crispus, the chief ruler of the synagogue, believed on the Lord with all his house; and many of the Corinthians hearing believed, and were baptized.
En Krispus, die owerste van die sinagoge, het in die Here geglo met sy hele huis; en baie van die Korinthiërs, toe hulle gehoor het, het geglo, en is gedoop.

Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:
Toe het die Here in die nag deur ’n gesig tot Paulus gesê, Wees nie bevrees nie, maar spreek, en swyg nie:

For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.
Want ek is by jou, en niemand sal jou aanval om jou kwaad te doen nie: want ek het baie mense in hierdie stad.

And he continued [there] a year and six months, teaching the word of God among them.
En hy het daar ‚'n jaar en ses maande voortgegaan, en die woord van God onder hulle geleer.

And when Gallio was the deputy of Achaia, the Jews made insurrection with one accord against Paul, and brought him to the judgment seat,
En toe Gallio landvoog van Agáje was, het die Jode eendragtig teen Paulus opgestaan, en hom na die regstoel gebring,

Saying, This [fellow] persuadeth men to worship God contrary to the law.
Sê, Hierdie man oortuig die mense om God te aanbid in stryd met die wet.

And when Paul was now about to open [his] mouth, Gallio said unto the Jews, If it were a matter of wrong or wicked lewdness, O [ye] Jews, reason would that I should bear with you:
En toe Paulus op die punt was om sy mond oop te maak, het Gallio tot die Jode gesê, As dit ’n saak van onreg of boos misdaad was, o julle Jode, sou daar rede wees dat ek julle verdra:

But if it be a question of words and names, and [of] your law, look ye [to it]; for I will be no judge of such [matters].
Maar as dit ‚'n vraag is van woorde en name, en van julle wet, kyk julle daarna; want ek wil geen regter wees van sulke sake nie.

And he drave them from the judgment seat.
En hy het hulle van die regstoel afgedryf.

Then all the Greeks took Sosthenes, the chief ruler of the synagogue, and beat [him] before the judgment seat. And Gallio cared for none of those things.
Toe het al die Grieke Sostenes, die owerste van die sinagoge, gegryp, en hom voor die regstoel geslaan. En Gallio het vir geen van hierdie dinge omgegee nie.

And Paul [after this] tarried [there] yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn [his] head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.
En Paulus het daarna nog ’n goeie wyl daar vertoef, en toe die broers vaarwel toegeroep, en van daar na Sirië gevaar; en saam met hom Priscilla en Aquila; nadat hy sy hoof in Kenchrea geskeer het: want hy het ’n gelofte gehad.

And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews.
En hy het in Efese gekom, en hulle daar gelaat: maar hy self het in die sinagoge gegaan, en met die Jode geredeneer.

When they desired [him] to tarry longer time with them, he consented not;
Toe hulle begeer het dat hy ‚'n langer tyd by hulle sou bly, het hy nie ingestem nie;
21
But bade them farewell, saying, I must by all means keep this feast that cometh in Jerusalem: but I will return again unto you, if God will. And he sailed from Ephesus.
Maar het hulle vaarwel toegeroep, sê, Ek moet by alle middele hierdie fees wat kom in Jérusalem hou: maar ek sal weer tot julle terugkeer, as God wil. En hy het van Efese afgevaar.

And when he had landed at Caesarea, and gone up, and saluted the church, he went down to Antioch.
En toe hy in Cesaréa geland het, en opgegaan het, en die gemeente gegroet het, het hy afgegaan na Antiochië.

And after he had spent some time [there], he departed, and went over [all] the country of Galatia and Phrygia in order, strengthening all the disciples.
En nadat hy ’n tyd daar deurgebring het, het hy weggegaan, en deur die hele landstreek van Galasië en Frigië in orde gegaan, en al die dissipels versterk.

And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, [and] mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.
En ’n sekere Jood, met die naam van Apollos, gebore in Alexandrië, ’n welsprekende man, en magtig in die Skrifte, het in Efese gekom.

This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.
Hierdie man was onderrig in die weg van die Here; en, ywerig in die gees, het hy en geleer die dinge van die Here ywerig, wetende net die doop van Johannes.

And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto [them], and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.
En hy het begin om vrymoedig in die sinagoge te spreek: wat toe Aquila en Priscilla gehoor het, het hulle hom by hulle geneem, en hom die weg van God meer volkome uitgelê.

And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through grace:
En toe hy van plan was om na Agáje oor te gaan, het die broers geskrywe, en die dissipels aangespoor om hom te ontvang: wat, toe hy gekom het, baie gehelp het wat deur genade geglo het:

For he mightily convinced the Jews, [and that] publickly, shewing by the scriptures that Jesus was Christ.
Want hy het die Jode magtig weerlê, en openlik getoon deur die Skrifte dat Jesus die Christus was.
