And now will I shew thee the truth. Behold, there shall stand up yet three kings in Persia; and the fourth shall be far richer than [they] all: and by his strength through his riches he shall stir up all against the realm of Grecia.
En nou sal ek jou die waarheid toon. Kyk, daar sal nog drie konings in Persië opstaan; en die vierde sal baie ryker wees as hulle almal: en deur sy sterkte deur sy rykdom sal hy almal teen die ryk van Griekeland opwek.

And a mighty king shall stand up, that shall rule with great dominion, and do according to his will.
En ‚'n magtige koning sal opstaan, wat met groot heerskappy sal heers, en doen volgens sy wil.
4
And when he shall stand up, his kingdom shall be broken, and shall be divided toward the four winds of heaven; and not to his posterity, nor according to his dominion which he ruled: for his kingdom shall be plucked up, even for others beside those.
En wanneer hy opstaan, sal sy koninkryk verbreek word, en na die vier winde van die hemel verdeel word; en nie aan sy nageslag nie, en ook nie volgens sy heerskappy waarmee hy geheers het nie; want sy koninkryk sal uitgeruk word, selfs vir ander behalwe hierdie.

And the king of the south shall be strong, and [one] of his princes; and he shall be strong above him, and have dominion; his dominion [shall be] a great dominion.
En die koning van die suide sal sterk wees, en een van sy vorste; en hy sal sterker wees as hy, en heers: sy heerskappy sal ‚'n groot heerskappy wees.

And in the end of years they shall join themselves together; for the king’s daughter of the south shall come to the king of the north to make an agreement: but she shall not retain the power of the arm; neither shall he stand, nor his arm: but she shall be given up, and they that brought her, and he that begat her, and he that strengthened her in [these] times.
En aan die einde van jare sal hulle saamverbond word; want die koning se dogter van die suide sal tot die koning van die noorde kom om ‚'n ooreenkoms te maak: maar sy sal die mag van die arm nie behou nie; en hy sal ook nie staan nie, en ook nie sy arm nie: maar sy sal oorgegee word, en hulle wat haar gebring het, en hy wat haar verwek het, en hy wat haar in daardie tye versterk het.

But out of a branch of her roots shall [one] stand up in his estate, which shall come with an army, and shall enter into the fortress of the king of the north, and shall deal against them, and shall prevail:
Maar uit ’n tak van haar wortels sal een in sy plek opstaan, wat met ’n leër sal kom, en sal in die vesting van die koning van die noorde inkom, en teen hulle handel, en seëvier:

And shall also carry captives into Egypt their gods, with their princes, [and] with their precious vessels of silver and of gold; and he shall continue [more] years than the king of the north.
En sal ook hulle gode, met hulle vorste, en met hulle kosbare vate van silwer en van goud, in gevangenisskap na Egipte bring; en hy sal meer jare as die koning van die noorde standhou.

So the king of the south shall come into [his] kingdom, and shall return into his own land.
So sal die koning van die suide in sy koninkryk inkom, en na sy eie land terugkeer.
10
But his sons shall be stirred up, and shall assemble a multitude of great forces: and [one] shall certainly come, and overflow, and pass through: then shall he return, and be stirred up, [even] to his fortress.
Maar sy seuns sal opgewek word, en ’n menigte van groot leërs bymekaarmaak: en een sal sekerlik kom, en oorstroom, en verbygaan: dan sal hy terugkeer, en opgewek word, selfs tot by sy vesting.

And the king of the south shall be moved with choler, and shall come forth and fight with him, [even] with the king of the north: and he shall set forth a great multitude; but the multitude shall be given into his hand.
En die koning van die suide sal verbitterd word, en sal uitgaan en met hom, selfs met die koning van die noorde, veg: en hy sal ‚'n groot menigte opstel; maar die menigte sal in sy hand oorgegee word.

[And] when he hath taken away the multitude, his heart shall be lifted up; and he shall cast down [many] ten thousands: but he shall not be strengthened [by it].
En wanneer hy die menigte weggeneem het, sal sy hart verhef word; en hy sal baie tienduisende neerwerp: maar hy sal nie daardeur versterk word nie.

For the king of the north shall return, and shall set forth a multitude greater than the former, and shall certainly come after certain years with a great army and with much riches.
Want die koning van die noorde sal terugkeer, en ’n menigte groter as die vorige opstel, en sal sekerlik ná sekere jare kom met ’n groot leër en met baie rykdom.

And in those times there shall many stand up against the king of the south: also the robbers of thy people shall exalt themselves to establish the vision; but they shall fall.
En in daardie tye sal baie teen die koning van die suide opstaan: ook die rowers van jou volk sal hulleself verhef om die visioen te bevestig; maar hulle sal val.
15
So the king of the north shall come, and cast up a mount, and take the most fenced cities: and the arms of the south shall not withstand, neither his chosen people, neither [shall there be any] strength to withstand.
So sal die koning van die noorde kom, en ‚'n wal gooi, en die sterkste stede inneem: en die arms van die suide sal nie weerstaan nie, en ook nie sy uitverkore volk nie, en daar sal geen krag wees om te weerstaan nie.

But he that cometh against him shall do according to his own will, and none shall stand before him: and he shall stand in the glorious land, which by his hand shall be consumed.
Maar hy wat teen hom kom, sal doen volgens sy eie wil, en niemand sal voor hom staan nie: en hy sal in die heerlike land staan, wat deur sy hand verteer sal word.

He shall also set his face to enter with the strength of his whole kingdom, and upright ones with him; thus shall he do: and he shall give him the daughter of women, corrupting her: but she shall not stand [on his side], neither be for him.
Hy sal ook sy aangesig stel om met die sterkte van sy hele koninkryk in te kom, en opregte mense met hom; so sal hy dit doen: en hy sal die dogter van vroue aan hom gee, om haar te verdorwe: maar sy sal nie staan aan sy kant nie, en ook nie vir hom wees nie.

After this shall he turn his face unto the isles, and shall take many: but a prince for his own behalf shall cause the reproach offered by him to cease; without his own reproach he shall cause [it] to turn upon him.
Ná dit sal hy sy aangesig na die eilande wend, en baie inneem: maar ’n vors vir sy eie ontwil sal die smaad wat hy aanbied, van hom afwend; hy sal sy eie smaad op homself laat terugkeer.

Then he shall turn his face toward the fort of his own land: but he shall stumble and fall, and not be found.
Toe sal hy sy aangesig na die vestings van sy eie land wend: maar hy sal struikel en val, en nie gevind word nie.
20
Then shall stand up in his estate a raiser of taxes [in] the glory of the kingdom: but within few days he shall be destroyed, neither in anger, nor in battle.
Toe sal daar in sy plek opstaan ‚'n wat ‚'n belaster van belastings in die heerlikheid van die koninkryk laat deurgaan: maar binne ‚'n paar dae sal hy vernietig word, en nie in toorn, en ook nie in geveg nie.

And in his estate shall stand up a vile person, to whom they shall not give the honour of the kingdom: but he shall come in peaceably, and obtain the kingdom by flatteries.
En in sy plek sal ‚'n veragtelike persoon opstaan, aan wie hulle nie die eer van die koninkryk sal gee nie: maar hy sal in vrede inkom, en die koninkryk deur vleiende dinge verkry.
22
And with the arms of a flood shall they be overflown from before him, and shall be broken; yea, also the prince of the covenant.
En met die arms van ‚'n vloed sal hulle van voor hom af weggespoel word, en verbreek word; ja, ook die vors van die verbond.
23
And after the league [made] with him he shall work deceitfully: for he shall come up, and shall become strong with a small people.
En ná die verbond met hom gemaak is, sal hy bedrieglik handel: want hy sal opkom, en sterk word met ’n klein volk.
24
He shall enter peaceably even upon the fattest places of the province; and he shall do [that] which his fathers have not done, nor his fathers’ fathers; he shall scatter among them the prey, and spoil, and riches: [yea], and he shall forecast his devices against the strong holds, even for a time.
Hy sal in vrede selfs in die vetste plekke van die provinsie inkom; en hy sal doen wat sy vaders nie gedoen het nie, en ook nie sy vaders se vaders nie; hy sal die roof, en buit, en rykdom onder hulle verstrooi: ja, en hy sal sy toestelle teen die sterkhede bedink, selfs vir ‚'n tyd.

And he shall stir up his power and his courage against the king of the south with a great army; and the king of the south shall be stirred up to battle with a very great and mighty army; but he shall not stand: for they shall forecast devices against him.
En hy sal sy mag en sy moed teen die koning van die suide opwek met ’n groot leër; en die koning van die suide sal tot die geveg opgewek word met ’n baie groot en magtige leër; maar hy sal nie standhou nie: want hulle sal toestelle teen hom bedink.
26
Yea, they that feed of the portion of his meat shall destroy him, and his army shall overflow: and many shall fall down slain.
Ja, hulle wat van die gedeelte van sy voedsel eet, sal hom vernietig, en sy leër sal oorstroom: en baie sal val neer.
27
And both these kings’ hearts [shall be] to do mischief, and they shall speak lies at one table; but it shall not prosper: for yet the end [shall be] at the time appointed.
En beide hierdie konings se harte sal wees om onheil te doen, en hulle sal by een tafel leuens spreek; maar dit sal nie voorspoedig wees nie: want nog is die einde op die tyd wat aangewys is.

Then shall he return into his land with great riches; and his heart [shall be] against the holy covenant; and he shall do [exploits], and return to his own land.
Dan sal hy in sy land terugkeer met groot rykdom; en sy hart sal teen die heilige verbond wees; en hy sal dinge doen, en na sy eie land terugkeer.
29
At the time appointed he shall return, and come toward the south; but it shall not be as the former, or as the latter.
Op die tyd wat aangewys is sal hy terugkeer, en na die suide kom; maar dit sal nie wees soos die vorige, of soos die laaste nie.
30
For the ships of Chittim shall come against him: therefore he shall be grieved, and return, and have indignation against the holy covenant: so shall he do; he shall even return, and have intelligence with them that forsake the holy covenant.
Want die skepe van Kittim sal teen hom kom: daarom sal hy bedroef wees, en terugkeer, en grimmigheid hê teen die heilige verbond: so sal hy doen; hy sal selfs terugkeer, en verstand hê met hulle wat die heilige verbond verlaat.

And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily [sacrifice], and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
En arms sal van hom af staan, en hulle sal die heiligdom van krag verontreinig, en die daaglikse offer wegpneem, en die gruwel wat verwoes, sal opsit.
32
And such as do wickedly against the covenant shall he corrupt by flatteries: but the people that do know their God shall be strong, and do [exploits].
En so ‚'n as die goddeloos handel teen die verbond sal hy deur vleiende dinge verdorwe: maar die volk wat hulle God ken, sal sterk wees, en dinge doen.
33
And they that understand among the people shall instruct many: yet they shall fall by the sword, and by flame, by captivity, and by spoil, [many] days.
En hulle wat verstandig is onder die volk sal baie onderrig: tog sal hulle val deur die swaard, en deur vlam, deur gevangenisskap, en deur roof, baie dae.

Now when they shall fall, they shall be holpen with a little help: but many shall cleave to them with flatteries.
Nou wanneer hulle val, sal hulle met ‚'n bietjie hulp gehelp word: maar baie sal by hulle aansluit met vleiende dinge.
35
And [some] of them of understanding shall fall, to try them, and to purge, and to make [them] white, [even] to the time of the end: because [it is] yet for a time appointed.
En sommige van hulle van verstand sal val, om hulle te toets, en om hulle te reinig, en om hulle wit te maak, selfs tot die tyd van die einde: omdat dit nog is vir ‚'n tyd wat aangewys is.

And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvellous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.
En die koning sal doen volgens sy wil; en hy sal homself verhef, en homself bo elke god groot maak, en sal wonderlike dinge spreek teen die God van gode, en sal voorspoedig wees totdat die verontwaardiging voleindig is: want dit wat bepaal is, sal gedoen word.
37
Neither shall he regard the God of his fathers, nor the desire of women, nor regard any god: for he shall magnify himself above all.
En hy sal nie ag gee op die God van sy vaders nie, en ook nie op die begeerte van vroue nie, en ook nie op enige god nie: want hy sal homself bo alles groot maak.
38
But in his estate shall he honour the God of forces: and a god whom his fathers knew not shall he honour with gold, and silver, and with precious stones, and pleasant things.
Maar in sy plek sal hy die god van magte eer: en ‚'n god wat sy vaders nie geken het nie, sal hy eer met goud, en silwer, en met kosbare stene, en aangename dinge.
39
Thus shall he do in the most strong holds with a strange god, whom he shall acknowledge [and] increase with glory: and he shall cause them to rule over many, and shall divide the land for gain.
So sal hy in die sterkste vestings met ‚'n vreemde god handel, wat hy sal erken en vermeerder met heerlikheid: en hy sal hulle heersers maak oor baie, en die land verdeel vir wins.
40
And at the time of the end shall the king of the south push at him: and the king of the north shall come against him like a whirlwind, with chariots, and with horsemen, and with many ships; and he shall enter into the countries, and shall overflow and pass over.
En op die tyd van die einde sal die koning van die suide teen hom stoot: en die koning van die noorde sal teen hom kom soos ‚'n dwarrelwind, met strydwaens, en met ruiters, en met baie skepe; en hy sal in die lande inkom, en sal oorstroom en verbygaan.
41
He shall enter also into the glorious land, and many [countries] shall be overthrown: but these shall escape out of his hand, [even] Edom, and Moab, and the chief of the children of Ammon.
Hy sal ook in die heerlike land inkom, en baie lande sal omgewerp word: maar hierdie sal uit sy hand ontvlug, selfs Edom, en Moab, en die hoof van die kinders van Ammon.
42
He shall stretch forth his hand also upon the countries: and the land of Egypt shall not escape.
Hy sal sy hand ook op die lande uitsteek: en die land van Egipte sal nie ontvlug nie.
43
But he shall have power over the treasures of gold and of silver, and over all the precious things of Egypt: and the Libyans and the Ethiopians [shall be] at his steps.
Maar hy sal mag hê oor die skatte van goud en van silwer, en oor al die kosbare dinge van Egipte: en die Libiërs en die Etiopiërs sal by sy tree wees.
44
But tidings out of the east and out of the north shall trouble him: therefore he shall go forth with great fury to destroy, and utterly to make away many.
Maar tydinge uit die ooste en uit die noorde sal hom verontrus: daarom sal hy met groot grimmigheid uitgaan om baie te vernietig, en heeltemal uit te roei.
45
And he shall plant the tabernacles of his palace between the seas in the glorious holy mountain; yet he shall come to his end, and none shall help him.
En hy sal die tente van sy paleis tussen die see in die heerlike heilige berg plant; tog sal hy tot sy einde kom, en niemand sal hom help nie.
