1
If a man shall steal an ox, or a sheep, and kill it, or sell it; he shall restore five oxen for an ox, and four sheep for a sheep.
As ‚'n man ‚'n os of ‚'n skaap steel, en dit slag of verkoop; moet hy vyf beeste betaal vir ‚'n os, en vier skape vir ‚'n skaap.

If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, [there shall] no blood [be shed] for him.
As ‚'n dief gevind word terwyl hy inbreek, en hy geslaan word dat hy sterwe, mag daar geen bloedskuld vir hom wees nie.
3
If the sun be risen upon him, [there shall be] blood [shed] for him; [for] he should make full restitution; if he have nothing, then he shall be sold for his theft.
As die son oor hom opgegaan het, mag daar bloedskuld vir hom wees; hy moet sekerlik vergoed; as hy niks het nie, dan moet hy vir sy diefstal verkoop word.

If the theft be certainly found in his hand alive, whether it be ox, or ass, or sheep; he shall restore double.
As die gesteelde saak lewendig in sy hand gevind word, of dit ‚'n os is, of ‚'n esel, of ‚'n skaap; moet hy dubbel vergoed.

If a man shall cause a field or vineyard to be eaten, and shall put in his beast, and shall feed in another man’s field; of the best of his own field, and of the best of his own vineyard, shall he make restitution.
As ‚'n man ‚'n veld of ‚'n wingerd laat afwei, en hy laat sy dier los om in ‚'n ander man se veld te wei; van die beste van sy eie veld, en van die beste van sy eie wingerd, moet hy vergoed.

If fire break out, and catch in thorns, so that the stacks of corn, or the standing corn, or the field, be consumed [therewith]; he that kindled the fire shall surely make restitution.
As vuur uitbreek, en dorings vang, sodat die korenhope, of die staande koring, of die veld verteer word; moet hy sekerlik vergoed wat die brand gestig het.

If a man shall deliver unto his neighbour money or stuff to keep, and it be stolen out of the man’s house; if the thief be found, let him pay double.
As ‚'n man vir sy naaste geld of goed gee om te bewaar, en dit gesteel word uit die man se huis; as die dief gevind word, moet hy dubbel betaal.

If the thief be not found, then the master of the house shall be brought unto the judges, [to see] whether he have put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods.
As die dief nie gevind word nie, dan moet die eienaar van die huis na die regters gebring word, om te sien of hy sy hand nie aan sy naaste se goed gestrek het nie.

For all manner of trespass, [whether it be] for ox, for ass, for sheep, for raiment, [or] for any manner of lost thing, which [another] challengeth to be his, the cause of both parties shall come before the judges; [and] whom the judges shall condemn, he shall pay double unto his neighbour.
In elke saak van oortreding, of dit ’n os is, of ’n esel, of ’n skaap, of klere, of enige verlore ding, waarvan ’n mens sê, Dit is dit; moet die saak van altwee voor die regters kom; en wie die regters skuldig bevind, moet aan sy naaste dubbel betaal.

If a man deliver unto his neighbour an ass, or an ox, or a sheep, or any beast, to keep; and it die, or be hurt, or driven away, no man seeing [it]:
As ‚'n man vir sy naaste ‚'n esel, of ‚'n os, of ‚'n skaap, of enige dier gee om te bewaar; en dit sterwe, of beseer word, of weggeneem word, sonder dat iemand dit sien:

[Then] shall an oath of the LORD be between them both, that he hath not put his hand unto his neighbour’s goods; and the owner of it shall accept [thereof], and he shall not make [it] good.
Dan moet die eed van die HERE tussen hulle altwee wees, dat hy sy hand nie aan sy naaste se goed gestrek het nie; en die eienaar daarvan moet dit aanneem, en hy moet nie vergoed nie.

And if it be stolen from him, he shall make restitution unto the owner thereof.
En as dit van hom gesteel word, moet hy dit aan die eienaar daarvan vergoed.
13
If it be torn in pieces, [then] let him bring it [for] witness, [and] he shall not make good that which was torn.
As dit verskeur word, laat hom dit as getuie bring; hy moet nie vergoed vir dit wat verskeur is nie.
14
And if a man borrow [ought] of his neighbour, and it be hurt, or die, the owner thereof [being] not with it, he shall surely make [it] good.
En as ‚'n man iets van sy naaste leen, en dit beseer word, of sterwe, die eienaar daarvan nie by dit teenwoordig is nie, moet hy sekerlik vergoed.
15
[But] if the owner thereof [be] with it, he shall not make [it] good: if it [be] an hired [thing], it came for his hire.
Maar as die eienaar daarvan by dit is, moet hy nie vergoed nie: as dit gehuur is, het dit vir sy huur gekom.
16
And if a man entice a maid that is not betrothed, and lie with her, he shall surely endow her to be his wife.
En as ’n man ’n maagd verlei wat nie verloof is nie, en by haar lê, moet hy haar sekerlik as sy vrou met ’n bruidskat neem.
17
If her father utterly refuse to give her unto him, he shall pay money according to the dowry of virgins.
As haar vader absoluut weier om haar aan hom te gee, moet hy geld betaal volgens die bruidskat van maagde.
18
Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live.
Jy mag ‚'n towenares nie laat lewe nie.
19
Whosoever lieth with a beast shall surely be put to death.
Elkeen wat by ’n dier lê, moet sekerlik gedood word.
20
He that sacrificeth unto [any] god, save unto the LORD only, he shall be utterly destroyed.
Hy wat aan enige god offer, behalwe aan die HERE alleen, moet heeltemal vernietig word.
21
Thou shalt neither vex a stranger, nor oppress him: for ye were strangers in the land of Egypt.
Jy mag ‚'n vreemdeling nie verdruk of onderdruk nie: want julle was vreemdelinge in die land Egipte.
22
Ye shall not afflict any widow, or fatherless child.
Julle mag geen weduwee of weeskind verdruk nie.
23
If thou afflict them in any wise, and they cry at all unto me, I will surely hear their cry;
As jy hulle enigsins verdruk, en hulle enigsins tot My roep, sal ek sekerlik hulle geroep hoor;
24
And my wrath shall wax hot, and I will kill you with the sword; and your wives shall be widows, and your children fatherless.
En my toorn sal aangesteek word, en ek sal julle met die swaard doodmaak; en julle vroue sal weduwees wees, en julle kinders wees.
25
If thou lend money to [any of] my people [that is] poor by thee, thou shalt not be to him as an usurer, neither shalt thou lay upon him usury.
As jy geld uitleen aan enige van my volk wat arm by jou is, moet jy nie soos ’n skuldeiser teenoor hom wees nie, en jy mag geen rente op hom lê nie.
26
If thou at all take thy neighbour’s raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down:
As jy enigsins jou naaste se kleed as pand neem, moet jy dit aan hom teruggee voor die son ondergaan:
27
For that [is] his covering only, it [is] his raiment for his skin: wherein shall he sleep? and it shall come to pass, when he crieth unto me, that I will hear; for I [am] gracious.
Want dit is sy enigste bedekking, dit is sy kleed vir sy vel: waarin moet hy lê? en dit sal gebeur, wanneer hy tot My roep, dat ek sal hoor; want ek is genadig.
28
Thou shalt not revile the gods, nor curse the ruler of thy people.
Jy mag die godelike nie laster nie, en die owerste van jou volk nie vervloek nie.
29
Thou shalt not delay [to offer] the first of thy ripe fruits, and of thy liquors: the firstborn of thy sons shalt thou give unto me.
Jy mag nie vertraag om van die volheid van jou oes en van jou pers te gee nie: die eersgeborene van jou seuns moet jy aan My gee.
30
Likewise shalt thou do with thine oxen, [and] with thy sheep: seven days it shall be with his dam; on the eighth day thou shalt give it me.
So moet jy ook doen met jou osse, en met jou skape: sewe dae moet dit by sy moeder wees; op die agtste dag moet jy dit aan My gee.
31
And ye shall be holy men unto me: neither shall ye eat [any] flesh [that is] torn of beasts in the field; ye shall cast it to the dogs.
En julle moet vir My heilige manne wees: en julle mag geen vlees eet wat in die veld verskeur is nie; julle moet dit voor die honde gooi.
