And it came to pass in the seventh year, in the fifth [month], the tenth [day] of the month, [that] certain of the elders of Israel came to inquire of the LORD, and sat before me.
En dit het gebeur in die sewende jaar, in die vyfde maand, die tiende dag van die maand, dat sekere van die oudstes van Israel gekom het om die HERE te raadpleeg, en voor my gaan sit het.

Then came the word of the LORD unto me, saying,
Toe het die woord van die HERE tot my gekom, sê,

Son of man, speak unto the elders of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye come to inquire of me? [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.
Seun van die mens, spreek tot die oudstes van Israel, en sê tot hulle, So sê die Here GOD; Is julle gekom om My te raadpleeg? So waar as ek lewe, sê die Here GOD, ek sal nie deur julle geraadpleeg word nie.

Wilt thou judge them, son of man, wilt thou judge [them]? cause them to know the abominations of their fathers:
Wil jy hulle oordeel, seun van die mens, wil jy hulle oordeel? maak hulle die gruwels van hulle vaders bekend:
5
And say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; In the day when I chose Israel, and lifted up mine hand unto the seed of the house of Jacob, and made myself known unto them in the land of Egypt, when I lifted up mine hand unto them, saying, I [am] the LORD your God;
En sê tot hulle, So sê die Here GOD; In die dag toe ek Israel verkies het, en my hand tot die saad van die huis van Jakob opgehef het, en My in die land van Egipte aan hulle bekend gemaak het, toe ek my hand tot hulle opgehef het, sê, Ek is die HERE julle God;

In the day [that] I lifted up mine hand unto them, to bring them forth of the land of Egypt into a land that I had espied for them, flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the glory of all lands:
In die dag toe ek my hand tot hulle opgehef het, om hulle uit die land van Egipte uit te bring in ‚'n land wat ek vir hulle uitgespied het, wat met melk en heuning vloei, wat die heerlikheid is van al die lande:

Then said I unto them, Cast ye away every man the abominations of his eyes, and defile not yourselves with the idols of Egypt: I [am] the LORD your God.
Toe het ek tot hulle gesê, Laat elkeen die gruwels van sy oë wegwerp, en verontreinig julle nie met die afgode van Egipte nie: ek is die HERE julle God.

But they rebelled against me, and would not hearken unto me: they did not every man cast away the abominations of their eyes, neither did they forsake the idols of Egypt: then I said, I will pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the midst of the land of Egypt.
Maar hulle het teen My gerebelleer, en wou nie na My luister nie: hulle het elkeen die gruwels van hulle oë nie weggewerp nie, en die afgode van Egipte nie verlaat nie: toe het ek gesê, ek sal my grimmigheid oor hulle uitstort, om my toorn teen hulle in die midde van die land van Egipte te voleindig.

But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, among whom they [were], in whose sight I made myself known unto them, in bringing them forth out of the land of Egypt.
Maar ek het gewerk om my Naam se ontwil, dat dit nie verontreinig sou word voor die heidene, onder wie hulle was, in wie se oë ek My aan hulle bekend gemaak het, deur hulle uit die land van Egipte uit te bring nie.

Wherefore I caused them to go forth out of the land of Egypt, and brought them into the wilderness.
Daarom het ek hulle uit die land van Egipte uitgebring, en hulle in die wildernis gebring.
11
And I gave them my statutes, and shewed them my judgments, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them.
En ek het hulle my insettinge gegee, en hulle my oordele bekend gemaak, wat as ‚'n mens dit doen, hy daardeur sal lewe.
12
Moreover also I gave them my sabbaths, to be a sign between me and them, that they might know that I [am] the LORD that sanctify them.
Bowendien het ek hulle ook my sabbatte gegee, om ‚'n teken te wees tussen My en hulle, dat hulle mag weet dat ek die HERE is wat hulle heilig.

But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness: they walked not in my statutes, and they despised my judgments, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them; and my sabbaths they greatly polluted: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them in the wilderness, to consume them.
Maar die huis van Israel het in die wildernis teen My gerebelleer: hulle het nie in my insettinge gewandel nie, en my oordele verwerp, wat as ’n mens dit doen, hy daardeur sal lewe; en my sabbatte het hulle grootliks verontreinig: toe het ek gesê, ek sou my grimmigheid op hulle in die wildernis uitstort, om hulle te verteer.

But I wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen, in whose sight I brought them out.
Maar ek het gewerk om my Naam se ontwil, dat dit nie verontreinig sou word voor die heidene, in wie se oë ek hulle uitgebring het nie.

Yet also I lifted up my hand unto them in the wilderness, that I would not bring them into the land which I had given [them], flowing with milk and honey, which [is] the glory of all lands;
Tog het ek ook my hand tot hulle in die wildernis opgehef, dat ek hulle nie in die land sou bring wat ek hulle gegee het, wat met melk en heuning vloei, wat die heerlikheid is van al die lande nie;

Because they despised my judgments, and walked not in my statutes, but polluted my sabbaths: for their heart went after their idols.
Omdat hulle my oordele verwerp het, en nie in my insettinge gewandel het nie, maar my sabbatte verontreinig het: want hulle hart het agter hulle afgode aangegaan.
17
Nevertheless mine eye spared them from destroying them, neither did I make an end of them in the wilderness.
Nogtans het my oog hulle gespaar van te vernietig, en ek het hulle nie ‚'n einde gemaak in die wildernis nie.
18
But I said unto their children in the wilderness, Walk ye not in the statutes of your fathers, neither observe their judgments, nor defile yourselves with their idols:
Maar ek het tot hulle kinders in die wildernis gesê, Wandeling nie in die insettinge van julle vaders nie, en bewaar nie hulle oordele nie, en verontreinig julle nie met hulle afgode nie:
19
I [am] the LORD your God; walk in my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them;
Ek is die HERE julle God; wandel in my insettinge, en bewaar my oordele, en doen dit;
20
And hallow my sabbaths; and they shall be a sign between me and you, that ye may know that I [am] the LORD your God.
En heilig my sabbatte; en hulle sal ‚'n teken wees tussen My en julle, dat julle mag weet dat ek die HERE julle God is.
21
Notwithstanding the children rebelled against me: they walked not in my statutes, neither kept my judgments to do them, which [if] a man do, he shall even live in them; they polluted my sabbaths: then I said, I would pour out my fury upon them, to accomplish my anger against them in the wilderness.
Nietemin het die kinders teen My gerebelleer: hulle het nie in my insettinge gewandel nie, en my oordele nie bewaar om dit te doen nie, wat as ’n mens dit doen, hy daardeur sal lewe; hulle het my sabbatte verontreinig: toe het ek gesê, ek sou my grimmigheid op hulle uitstort, om my toorn teen hulle in die wildernis te voleindig.

Nevertheless I withdrew mine hand, and wrought for my name’s sake, that it should not be polluted in the sight of the heathen, in whose sight I brought them forth.
Nogtans het ek my hand teruggetrek, en gewerk om my Naam se ontwil, dat dit nie verontreinig sou word voor die heidene, in wie se oë ek hulle uitgebring het nie.

I lifted up mine hand unto them also in the wilderness, that I would scatter them among the heathen, and disperse them through the countries;
Ek het ook my hand tot hulle in die wildernis opgehef, dat ek hulle onder die heidene sou verstrooi, en hulle in die lande sou verstrooi;
24
Because they had not executed my judgments, but had despised my statutes, and had polluted my sabbaths, and their eyes were after their fathers’ idols.
Omdat hulle my oordele nie uitgevoer het nie, maar my insettinge verwerp het, en my sabbatte verontreinig het, en hulle oë was agter hulle vaders se afgode.
25
Wherefore I gave them also statutes [that were] not good, and judgments whereby they should not live;
Daarom het ek hulle ook insettinge gegee wat nie goed was nie, en oordele waardeur hulle nie sou lewe nie;
26
And I polluted them in their own gifts, in that they caused to pass through [the fire] all that openeth the womb, that I might make them desolate, to the end that they might know that I [am] the LORD.
En ek het hulle verontreinig in hulle eie gawes, deurdat hulle al wat die baarmoeder oopmaak, deur die vuur laat gaan, dat ek hulle mag verwoes, tot die einde toe dat hulle mag weet dat ek die HERE is.
27
Therefore, son of man, speak unto the house of Israel, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Yet in this your fathers have blasphemed me, in that they have committed a trespass against me.
Daarom, seun van die mens, spreek tot die huis van Israel, en sê tot hulle, So sê die Here GOD; Nog in hierdie ding het julle vaders My gelaster, deurdat hulle ’n skandelike oortreding teen My gepleeg het.

[For] when I had brought them into the land, [for] the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to them, then they saw every high hill, and all the thick trees, and they offered there their sacrifices, and there they presented the provocation of their offering: there also they made their sweet savour, and poured out there their drink offerings.
Want toe ek hulle in die land gebring het, waarvoor ek my hand opgehef het om dit aan hulle te gee, toe het hulle elke hoë heuwel, en al die digte bome aangesien, en daar hulle offers geoffer, en daar hulle provocasies aangebied: daar het hulle ook hulle aangename reuk gestel, en daar hulle drankoffers uitgegooi.

Then I said unto them, What [is] the high place whereunto ye go? And the name thereof is called Bamah unto this day.
Toe het ek tot hulle gesê, Wat is die hoë plek waarheen julle gaan? En die naam daarvan word tot vandag toe Bamah genoem.
30
Wherefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Are ye polluted after the manner of your fathers? and commit ye whoredom after their abominations?
Daarom sê tot die huis van Israel, So sê die Here GOD; Word julle verontreinig na die manier van julle vaders? en pleeg julle hoerery agter hulle gruwels aan?
31
For when ye offer your gifts, when ye make your sons to pass through the fire, ye pollute yourselves with all your idols, even unto this day: and shall I be inquired of by you, O house of Israel? [As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, I will not be inquired of by you.
Want wanneer julle julle gawes aanbied, wanneer julle julle seuns deur die vuur laat gaan, verontreinig julle julle met al julle afgode, selfs tot vandag toe: en sal ek deur julle geraadpleeg word, o huis van Israel? So waar as ek lewe, sê die Here GOD, ek sal nie deur julle geraadpleeg word nie.
32
And that which cometh into your mind shall not be at all, that ye say, We will be as the heathen, as the families of the countries, to serve wood and stone.
En dit wat in julle gees opkom, sal glad nie gebeur nie, dat julle sê, Ons sal soos die heidene wees, soos die gesinne van die lande, om hout en klip te dien.
33
[As] I live, saith the Lord GOD, surely with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out, will I rule over you:
So waar as ek lewe, sê die Here GOD, sekerlik met ’n magtige hand, en met ’n uitgestrekte arm, en met grimmigheid uitgestort, sal ek oor julle heers:
34
And I will bring you out from the people, and will gather you out of the countries wherein ye are scattered, with a mighty hand, and with a stretched out arm, and with fury poured out.
En ek sal julle uit die volk uitbring, en julle bymekaarmaak uit die lande waarin julle verstrooi is, met ‚'n magtige hand, en met ‚'n uitgestrekte arm, en met grimmigheid uitgestort.
35
And I will bring you into the wilderness of the people, and there will I plead with you face to face.
En ek sal julle in die wildernis van die volk bring, en daar sal ek met julle van aangesig tot aangesig twis.
36
Like as I pleaded with your fathers in the wilderness of the land of Egypt, so will I plead with you, saith the Lord GOD.
Soos ek met julle vaders in die wildernis van die land van Egipte getwis het, so sal ek met julle twis, sê die Here GOD.
37
And I will cause you to pass under the rod, and I will bring you into the bond of the covenant:
En ek sal julle onder die roede laat deurgaan, en ek sal julle in die band van die verbond bring:
38
And I will purge out from among you the rebels, and them that transgress against me: I will bring them forth out of the country where they sojourn, and they shall not enter into the land of Israel: and ye shall know that I [am] the LORD.
En ek sal die rebelle uit julle uitroei, en dié wat teen My oortree: ek sal hulle uitbring uit die land waar hulle vertoef, en hulle sal nie in die land van Israel inkom nie: en julle sal weet dat ek die HERE is.
39
As for you, O house of Israel, thus saith the Lord GOD; Go ye, serve ye every one his idols, and hereafter [also], if ye will not hearken unto me: but pollute ye my holy name no more with your gifts, and with your idols.
Wat julle betref, o huis van Israel, so sê die Here GOD; Gaan julle, dien elkeen sy afgode, en hierna ook, as julle nie na My wil luister nie: maar verontreinig my heilige Naam nie meer met julle gawes, en met julle afgode nie.
40
For in mine holy mountain, in the mountain of the height of Israel, saith the Lord GOD, there shall all the house of Israel, all of them in the land, serve me: there will I accept them, and there will I require your offerings, and the firstfruits of your oblations, with all your holy things.
Want op my heilige berg, op die berg van die hoogte van Israel, sê die Here GOD, daar sal die hele huis van Israel, almal van hulle in die land, My dien: daar sal ek hulle aanneem, en daar sal ek julle offers eis, en die eerselinge van julle offers, met al julle heilige dinge.
41
I will accept you with your sweet savour, when I bring you out from the people, and gather you out of the countries wherein ye have been scattered; and I will be sanctified in you before the heathen.
Ek sal julle aanneem met julle aangename reuk, wanneer ek julle uit die volk uitbring, en julle bymekaarmaak uit die lande waarin julle verstrooi is; en ek sal in julle geheilig word voor die heidene.
42
And ye shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I shall bring you into the land of Israel, into the country [for] the which I lifted up mine hand to give it to your fathers.
En julle sal weet dat ek die HERE is, wanneer ek julle in die land van Israel bring, in die land waarvoor ek my hand opgehef het om dit aan julle vaders te gee.
43
And there shall ye remember your ways, and all your doings, wherein ye have been defiled; and ye shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for all your evils that ye have committed.
En daar sal julle julle weë onthou, en al julle doenings, waarin julle verontreinig is; en julle sal julle self verafsku in julle eie oë vir al julle euwele wat julle gepleeg het.
44
And ye shall know that I [am] the LORD, when I have wrought with you for my name’s sake, not according to your wicked ways, nor according to your corrupt doings, O ye house of Israel, saith the Lord GOD.
En julle sal weet dat ek die HERE is, wanneer ek met julle handel om my Naam se ontwil, nie volgens julle boos weë, of volgens julle verdorwe doenings, o huis van Israel, sê die Here GOD.
45
Moreover the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Bowendien het die woord van die HERE tot my gekom, sê,
46
Son of man, set thy face toward the south, and drop [thy word] toward the south, and prophesy against the forest of the south field;
Seun van die mens, sit jou aangesig na die suide, en drup jou woord na die suide, en profeteer teen die woud van die suide veld;
47
And say to the forest of the south, Hear the word of the LORD; Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will kindle a fire in thee, and it shall devour every green tree in thee, and every dry tree: the flaming flame shall not be quenched, and all faces from the south to the north shall be burned therein.
En sê tot die woud van die suide, Hoor die woord van die HERE; So sê die Here GOD; Kyk, ek sal ’n vuur in jou aansteek, en dit sal elke groen boom in jou, en elke droë boom, verteer: die brandende vlam sal nie uitgeblus word nie, en alle aangesigte van die suide tot die noorde sal daardeur verbrand word.
48
And all flesh shall see that I the LORD have kindled it: it shall not be quenched.
En alle vlees sal sien dat ek die HERE dit aangesteek het: dit sal nie uitgeblus word nie.
49
Then said I, Ah Lord GOD! they say of me, Doth he not speak parables?
Toe het ek gesê, Ag Here GOD! hulle sê van my, Is hy nie ’n spreekwoord-spreker nie?
