And it came to pass, that when Isaac was old, and his eyes were dim, so that he could not see, he called Esau his eldest son, and said unto him, My son: and he said unto him, Behold, [here am] I.
En dit het gebeur, toe Isak oud was, en sy oë dof geword het, sodat hy nie kon sien nie, dat hy Esau sy oudste seun geroep het, en tot hom gesê het, My seun: en hy het tot hom gesê, Hier is ek.

And he said, Behold now, I am old, I know not the day of my death:
En hy het gesê, Kyk nou, ek is oud, ek weet nie die dag van my dood nie:
3
Now therefore take, I pray thee, thy weapons, thy quiver and thy bow, and go out to the field, and take me [some] venison;
Neem nou tog jou wapens, jou pylkoker en jou boog, en gaan uit na die veld, en jag vir my wildsvleis;
4
And make me savoury meat, such as I love, and bring [it] to me, that I may eat; that my soul may bless thee before I die.
En berei vir my smaaklike spys, soos ek dit liefhet, en bring dit vir my, dat ek mag eet; dat my siel jou mag seën voordat ek sterwe.

And Rebekah heard when Isaac spake to Esau his son. And Esau went to the field to hunt [for] venison, [and] to bring [it].
En Rebekka het gehoor toe Isak tot Esau sy seun gespreek het. En Esau het na die veld gegaan om wildsvleis te jag, en dit te bring.

And Rebekah spake unto Jacob her son, saying, Behold, I heard thy father speak unto Esau thy brother, saying,
En Rebekka het tot Jakob haar seun gespreek, en gesê, Kyk, ek het jou vader hoor spreek tot Esau jou broer, en sê,
7
Bring me venison, and make me savoury meat, that I may eat, and bless thee before the LORD before my death.
Bring vir my wildsvleis, en berei vir my smaaklike spys, dat ek mag eet, en jou seën voor die HERE voordat ek sterwe.
8
Now therefore, my son, obey my voice according to that which I command thee.
Nou dan, my seun, luister na my stem in dit wat ek jou beveel.
9
Go now to the flock, and fetch me from thence two good kids of the goats; and I will make them savoury meat for thy father, such as he loveth:
Gaan nou na die kudde, en haal vir my van daar twee goeie bokkies; en ek sal dit smaaklike spys vir jou vader berei, soos hy dit liefhet:
10
And thou shalt bring [it] to thy father, that he may eat, and that he may bless thee before his death.
En jy moet dit na jou vader bring, dat hy mag eet, en jou seën voor sy dood.

And Jacob said to Rebekah his mother, Behold, Esau my brother [is] a hairy man, and I [am] a smooth man:
En Jakob het tot Rebekka sy moeder gesê, Kyk, Esau my broer is ’n harige man, en ek is ’n gladde man:
12
My father peradventure will feel me, and I shall seem to him as a deceiver; and I shall bring a curse upon me, and not a blessing.
Miskien sal my vader my betas, en ek sal in sy oë wees soos ’n bedrieër; en ek sal ’n vloek op my bring, en nie ’n seën nie.
13
And his mother said unto him, Upon me [be] thy curse, my son: only obey my voice, and go fetch me [them].
En sy moeder het tot hom gesê, Op my is jou vloek, my seun: luister net na my stem, en gaan haal dit vir my.

And he went, and fetched, and brought [them] to his mother: and his mother made savoury meat, such as his father loved.
En hy het gegaan, en dit gehaal, en dit na sy moeder gebring: en sy moeder het smaaklike spys berei, soos sy vader dit liefhet.
15
And Rebekah took goodly raiment of her eldest son Esau, which [were] with her in the house, and put them upon Jacob her younger son:
En Rebekka het die kostelike klere van haar oudste seun Esau geneem, wat by haar in die huis was, en dit aan Jakob haar jongste seun aangetrek:
16
And she put the skins of the kids of the goats upon his hands, and upon the smooth of his neck:
En die velle van die bokkies het sy om sy hande getrek, en om die gladde van sy nek:
17
And she gave the savoury meat and the bread, which she had prepared, into the hand of her son Jacob.
En sy het die smaaklike spys en die brood, wat sy berei het, in die hand van haar seun Jakob gegee.
18
And he came unto his father, and said, My father: and he said, Here [am] I; who [art] thou, my son?
En hy het na sy vader gekom, en gesê, My vader: en hy het gesê, Hier is ek; wie is jy, my seun?
19
And Jacob said unto his father, I [am] Esau thy firstborn; I have done according as thou badest me: arise, I pray thee, sit and eat of my venison, that thy soul may bless me.
En Jakob het tot sy vader gesê, Ek is Esau jou eersgeborene; ek het gedoen soos jy my gesê het: staan tog op, sit en eet van my wildsvleis, dat jou siel my mag seën.
20
And Isaac said unto his son, How [is it] that thou hast found [it] so quickly, my son? And he said, Because the LORD thy God brought [it] to me.
En Isak het tot sy seun gesê, Hoe is dit dat jy dit so gou gevind het, my seun? En hy het gesê, Omdat die HERE jou God dit voor my aangesig laat slaag het.

And Isaac said unto Jacob, Come near, I pray thee, that I may feel thee, my son, whether thou [be] my very son Esau or not.
En Isak het tot Jakob gesê, Kom tog nader, dat ek jou mag betas, my seun, of jy waarlik my seun Esau is of nie.
22
And Jacob went near unto Isaac his father; and he felt him, and said, The voice [is] Jacob’s voice, but the hands [are] the hands of Esau.
En Jakob het nader gekom tot Isak sy vader; en hy het hom betas, en gesê, Die stem is Jakob se stem, maar die hande is die hande van Esau.

And he discerned him not, because his hands were hairy, as his brother Esau’s hands: so he blessed him.
En hy het hom nie herken nie, omdat sy hande harig was soos sy broer Esau se hande: so het hy hom geseën.
24
And he said, [Art] thou my very son Esau? And he said, I [am].
En hy het gesê, Is jy waarlik my seun Esau? En hy het gesê, Ek is.
25
And he said, Bring [it] near to me, and I will eat of my son’s venison, that my soul may bless thee. And he brought [it] near to him, and he did eat: and he brought him wine, and he drank.
En hy het gesê, Bring dit nader na my, en ek sal eet van my seun se wildsvleis, dat my siel jou mag seën. En hy het dit nader gebring na hom, en hy het geëet: en hy het vir hom wyn gebring, en hy het gedrink.

And his father Isaac said unto him, Come near now, and kiss me, my son.
En sy vader Isak het tot hom gesê, Kom tog nader, en soen my, my seun.
27
And he came near, and kissed him: and he smelled the smell of his raiment, and blessed him, and said, See, the smell of my son [is] as the smell of a field which the LORD hath blessed:
En hy het nader gekom, en hom gesoen: en hy het die reuk van sy klere geruik, en hom geseën, en gesê, Kyk, die reuk van my seun is soos die reuk van ’n veld wat die HERE geseën het:
28
Therefore God give thee of the dew of heaven, and the fatness of the earth, and plenty of corn and wine:
Daarom gee God jou van die dou van die hemel, en van die vettigheid van die aarde, en oorvloed van koring en mos:
29
Let people serve thee, and nations bow down to thee: be lord over thy brethren, and let thy mother’s sons bow down to thee: cursed [be] every one that curseth thee, and blessed [be] he that blesseth thee.
Laat volke jou dien, en nasies voor jou neerbuig: wees heer oor jou broers, en laat jou moeder se seuns voor jou neerbuig: vervloek is elkeen wat jou vervloek, en geseënd is elkeen wat jou seën.

And it came to pass, as soon as Isaac had made an end of blessing Jacob, and Jacob was yet scarce gone out from the presence of Isaac his father, that Esau his brother came in from his hunting.
En dit het gebeur, toe Isak klaar was om Jakob te seën, en Jakob skaars weg was van die aangesig van Isak sy vader, dat Esau sy broer van sy jag af gekom het.

And he also had made savoury meat, and brought it unto his father, and said unto his father, Let my father arise, and eat of his son’s venison, that thy soul may bless me.
En hy het ook smaaklike spys berei, en dit na sy vader gebring, en tot sy vader gesê, Laat my vader opstaan, en eet van sy seun se wildsvleis, dat jou siel my mag seën.

And Isaac his father said unto him, Who [art] thou? And he said, I [am] thy son, thy firstborn Esau.
En Isak sy vader het tot hom gesê, Wie is jy? En hy het gesê, Ek is jou seun, jou eersgeborene Esau.
33
And Isaac trembled very exceedingly, and said, Who? where [is] he that hath taken venison, and brought [it] me, and I have eaten of all before thou camest, and have blessed him? yea, [and] he shall be blessed.
En Isak het uitermate hewig gebewe, en gesê, Wie is dit dan wat wildsvleis gejag en vir my gebring het, en ek het van alles geëet voordat jy gekom het, en hom geseën? ja, en hy sal geseënd wees.

And when Esau heard the words of his father, he cried with a great and exceeding bitter cry, and said unto his father, Bless me, [even] me also, O my father.
Toe Esau die woorde van sy vader gehoor het, het hy ’n groot en bitter geskreeu uitgeroep, en tot sy vader gesê, Seën my, ook my, o my vader!
35
And he said, Thy brother came with subtilty, and hath taken away thy blessing.
En hy het gesê, Jou broer het met bedrog gekom, en jou seën geneem.
36
And he said, Is not he rightly named Jacob? for he hath supplanted me these two times: he took away my birthright; and, behold, now he hath taken away my blessing. And he said, Hast thou not reserved a blessing for me?
En hy het gesê, Is hy nie reg genoem Jakob nie? want hy het my nou twee maal bedrieg: hy het my eersgeboortereg geneem; en kyk, nou het hy my seën geneem. En hy het gesê, Het jy nie vir my ook ’n seën oorgehou nie?

And Isaac answered and said unto Esau, Behold, I have made him thy lord, and all his brethren have I given to him for servants; and with corn and wine have I sustained him: and what shall I do now unto thee, my son?
En Isak het geantwoord en tot Esau gesê, Kyk, ek het hom heer oor jou gemaak, en al sy broers het ek hom tot dienaars gegee; en met koring en mos het ek hom ondersteun: en wat kan ek nou vir jou doen, my seun?
38
And Esau said unto his father, Hast thou but one blessing, my father? bless me, [even] me also, O my father. And Esau lifted up his voice, and wept.
En Esau het tot sy vader gesê, Het jy net een seën, my vader? seën my, ook my, o my vader! En Esau het sy stem opgehef, en gehuil.
39
And Isaac his father answered and said unto him, Behold, thy dwelling shall be the fatness of the earth, and of the dew of heaven from above;
En Isak sy vader het geantwoord en tot hom gesê, Kyk, jou woonplek sal wees van die vettigheid van die aarde af, en van die dou van die hemel van bo af;
40
And by thy sword shalt thou live, and shalt serve thy brother; and it shall come to pass when thou shalt have the dominion, that thou shalt break his yoke from off thy neck.
En by jou swaard sal jy lewe, en jou broer sal jy dien; en dit sal gebeur wanneer jy heers, dat jy sy juk van jou nek sal afwerp.
41
And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing wherewith his father blessed him: and Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand; then will I slay my brother Jacob.
En Esau het Jakob gehaat vanweë die seën waarmee sy vader hom geseën het: en Esau het in sy hart gesê, Die dae van rou oor my vader is naby; dan sal ek my broer Jakob doodmaak.

And these words of Esau her elder son were told to Rebekah: and she sent and called Jacob her younger son, and said unto him, Behold, thy brother Esau, as touching thee, doth comfort himself, [purposing] to kill thee.
En die woorde van Esau haar oudste seun is aan Rebekka vertel: en sy het gestuur en Jakob haar jongste seun geroep, en tot hom gesê, Kyk, jou broer Esau troos homself aangaande jou, om jou dood te maak.
43
Now therefore, my son, obey my voice; and arise, flee thou to Laban my brother to Haran;
Nou dan, my seun, luister na my stem; en staan op, vlug na Laban my broer in Haran;
44
And tarry with him a few days, until thy brother’s fury turn away;
En vertoef by hom ‚'n paar dae, totdat jou broer se grimmigheid wegtrek;
45
Until thy brother’s anger turn away from thee, and he forget [that] which thou hast done to him: then I will send, and fetch thee from thence: why should I be deprived also of you both in one day?
Totdat jou broer se toorn van jou afdraai, en hy vergeet wat jy aan hom gedoen het: dan sal ek stuur, en jou van daar laat haal: waarom sou ek julle altwee op een dag berowe word?
46
And Rebekah said to Isaac, I am weary of my life because of the daughters of Heth: if Jacob take a wife of the daughters of Heth, such as these [which are] of the daughters of the land, what good shall my life do me?
En Rebekka het tot Isak gesê, Ek is moeg van my lewe vanweë die dogters van Het: as Jakob ’n vrou neem van die dogters van Het, soos hierdie, van die dogters van die land, wat baat my die lewe?
