And Jacob lifted up his eyes, and looked, and, behold, Esau came, and with him four hundred men. And he divided the children unto Leah, and unto Rachel, and unto the two handmaids.
En Jakob het sy oë opgeslaan, en gekyk, en kyk, Esau kom, en met hom vierhonderd man. En hy het die kinders verdeel onder Lea, en onder Ragel, en onder die twee diensmaagde.

And he put the handmaids and their children foremost, and Leah and her children after, and Rachel and Joseph hindermost.
En hy het die diensmaagde en hulle kinders vooruit gestel, en Lea en haar kinders agter, en Ragel en Josef agterste.

And he passed over before them, and bowed himself to the ground seven times, until he came near to his brother.
En hy self het voor hulle uitgegaan, en homself sewe maal na die aarde gebuig, totdat hy naby sy broer gekom het.

And Esau ran to meet him, and embraced him, and fell on his neck, and kissed him: and they wept.
En Esau het hom tegemoet gehardloop, en hom omhels, en op sy nek geval, en hom gesoen: en hulle het gehuil.

And he lifted up his eyes, and saw the women and the children; and said, Who [are] those with thee? And he said, The children which God hath graciously given thy servant.
En hy het sy oë opgeslaan, en die vroue en die kinders gesien; en gesê, Wie is hierdie by jou? En hy het gesê, Die kinders wat God aan u dienaar genadiglik gegee het.

Then the handmaidens came near, they and their children, and they bowed themselves.
Toe het die diensmaagde nader gekom, hulle en hulle kinders, en hulle het hulle gebuig.

And Leah also with her children came near, and bowed themselves: and after came Joseph near and Rachel, and they bowed themselves.
En Lea het ook nader gekom met haar kinders, en hulle het hulle gebuig: en daarna het Josef en Ragel nader gekom, en hulle het hulle gebuig.

And he said, What [meanest] thou by all this drove which I met? And he said, [These are] to find grace in the sight of my lord.
En hy het gesê, Wat bedoel jy met al hierdie trop wat ek ontmoet het? En hy het gesê, Om genade te vind in die oë van my heer.

And Esau said, I have enough, my brother; keep that thou hast unto thyself.
En Esau het gesê, Ek het genoeg, my broer; behou wat jy het vir jouself.

And Jacob said, Nay, I pray thee, if now I have found grace in thy sight, then receive my present at my hand: for therefore I have seen thy face, as though I had seen the face of God, and thou wast pleased with me.
En Jakob het gesê, Nee, ek bid jou; as ek nou genade in jou oë gevind het, neem dan my geskenk uit my hand aan: want daarom het ek jou aangesig gesien, soos iemand die aangesig van God sien, en jy was tevrede met my.

Take, I pray thee, my blessing that is brought to thee; because God hath dealt graciously with me, and because I have enough. And he urged him, and he took [it].
Neem tog my seëning wat na jou gebring is; omdat God my genadig was, en omdat ek alles het. En hy het by hom aangedring, en hy het dit aangeneem.

And he said, Let us take our journey, and let us go, and I will go before thee.
En hy het gesê, Laat ons opbreek, en gaan; en ek sal voor jou uitgaan.

And he said unto him, My lord knoweth that the children [are] tender, and the flocks and herds with young [are] with me: and if men should overdrive them one day, all the flock will die.
En hy het tot hom gesê, My heer weet dat die kinders teer is, en dat die skape en beeste by my soog: en as hulle een dag te hard gedryf word, sal al die kuddes sterwe.

Let my lord, I pray thee, pass over before his servant: and I will lead on softly, according as the cattle that goeth before me and the children be able to endure, until I come unto my lord unto Seir.
Laat my heer tog voor sy dienaar uitgaan: en ek sal gemaklik aanbeweeg volgens die pas van die vee wat voor my is, en volgens die pas van die kinders, totdat ek by my heer kom in Seïr.

And Esau said, Let me now leave with thee [some] of the folk that [are] with me. And he said, What needeth it? let me find grace in the sight of my lord.
En Esau het gesê, Laat my tog by jou laat van die volk wat by my is. En hy het gesê, Waarom dan? laat my genade vind in die oë van my heer.

So Esau returned that day on his way unto Seir.
So het Esau daardie dag op sy weg teruggekeer na Seïr.

And Jacob journeyed to Succoth, and built him an house, and made booths for his cattle: therefore the name of the place is called Succoth.
En Jakob het na Sukkot gereis, en vir hom ‚'n huis gebou, en skuilings vir sy vee gemaak: daarom is die naam van die plek Sukkot genoem.

And Jacob came to Shalem, a city of Shechem, which [is] in the land of Canaan, when he came from Padanaram; and pitched his tent before the city.
En Jakob het veilig gekom by die stad Sigem, wat in die land Kanaän is, toe hy uit Paddan-Aram gekom het; en hy het voor die stad kamp opgeslaan.

And he bought a parcel of a field, where he had spread his tent, at the hand of the children of Hamor, Shechem’s father, for an hundred pieces of money.
En hy het ‚'n stuk land gekoop waar hy sy tent opgeslaan het, uit die hand van die kinders van Hemor, Sigem se vader, vir honderd stukke geld.

And he erected there an altar, and called it EleloheIsrael.
En hy het daar ‚'n altaar opgerig, en dit El-Elohe-Israel genoem.
