And Joseph was brought down to Egypt; and Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh, captain of the guard, an Egyptian, bought him of the hands of the Ishmeelites, which had brought him down thither.
En Josef is afgebring na Egipte; en Potifar, ‚'n hofdienaar van Farao, die owerste van die lyfwag, ‚'n Egiptiese man, het hom gekoop uit die hand van die Ismaeliete, wat hom daarheen afgebring het.

And the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prosperous man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.
En die HERE was met Josef, en hy was ‚'n voorspoedige man; en hy was in die huis van sy heer die Egiptenaar.

And his master saw that the LORD [was] with him, and that the LORD made all that he did to prosper in his hand.
En sy heer het gesien dat die HERE met hom was, en dat die HERE alles wat hy gedoen het, in sy hand voorspoedig gemaak het.

And Joseph found grace in his sight, and he served him: and he made him overseer over his house, and all [that] he had he put into his hand.
En Josef het genade in sy oë gevind, en hy het hom bedien: en hy het hom oor sy huis aangestel, en alles wat hy gehad het, in sy hand oorgegee.

And it came to pass from the time [that] he had made him overseer in his house, and over all that he had, that the LORD blessed the Egyptian’s house for Joseph’s sake; and the blessing of the LORD was upon all that he had in the house, and in the field.
En dit het gebeur van die tyd af dat hy hom oor sy huis en oor alles wat hy gehad het, aangestel het, dat die HERE die huis van die Egiptenaar geseën het om Josef se ontwil; en die seën van die HERE was op alles wat hy gehad het, in die huis en in die veld.

And he left all that he had in Joseph’s hand; and he knew not ought he had, save the bread which he did eat. And Joseph was [a] goodly [person], and well favoured.
En hy het alles wat hy gehad het, in Josef se hand gelaat; en hy het met hom niks geweet van wat hy gehad het nie, behalwe die brood wat hy geëet het. En Josef was mooi van gestalte, en mooi van aangesig.

And it came to pass after these things, that his master’s wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me.
En dit het gebeur ná hierdie dinge, dat sy heer se vrou haar oë op Josef gewerp het; en sy het gesê, Lê by my.

But he refused, and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what [is] with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand;
Maar hy het geweier, en tot sy heer se vrou gesê, Kyk, my heer weet nie by my wat in die huis is nie, en hy het alles wat hy het, in my hand oorgegee;

[There is] none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou [art] his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?
Daar is niemand groter in hierdie huis as ek nie; en hy het niks van my weerhou nie, behalwe jou, omdat jy sy vrou is: hoe kan ek dan hierdie groot boosheid doen, en sondig teen God?

And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, [or] to be with her.
En dit het gebeur, toe sy dag vir dag met Josef gespreek het, dat hy nie na haar geluister het om by haar te lê, of om by haar te wees nie.

And it came to pass about this time, that [Joseph] went into the house to do his business; and [there was] none of the men of the house there within.
En dit het gebeur omtrent hierdie tyd, dat Josef in die huis ingegaan het om sy werk te doen; en daar was niemand van die manne van die huis daar binne nie.

And she caught him by his garment, saying, Lie with me: and he left his garment in her hand, and fled, and got him out.
En sy het hom aan sy kleed gegryp, en gesê, Lê by my: en hy het sy kleed in haar hand agtergelaat, en gevlug, en uitgegaan na buite.

And it came to pass, when she saw that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled forth,
En dit het gebeur, toe sy sien dat hy sy kleed in haar hand agtergelaat het, en na buite gevlug het,

That she called unto the men of her house, and spake unto them, saying, See, he hath brought in an Hebrew unto us to mock us; he came in unto me to lie with me, and I cried with a loud voice:
Dat sy die manne van haar huis geroep het, en tot hulle gespreek het, en gesê, Sien, hy het ’n Hebreërman na ons gebring om met ons te spot: hy het by my ingekom om by my te lê, en ek het met ’n luide stem geskreeu:

And it came to pass, when he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled, and got him out.
En dit het gebeur, toe hy gehoor het dat ek my stem ophef en skreeu, dat hy sy kleed by my agtergelaat het, en gevlug en uitgegaan het na buite.

And she laid up his garment by her, until his lord came home.
En sy het sy kleed by haar neergelê, totdat sy heer huis toe gekom het.
17
And she spake unto him according to these words, saying, The Hebrew servant, which thou hast brought unto us, came in unto me to mock me:
En sy het tot hom gespreek volgens hierdie woorde, en gesê, Die Hebreërslaaf, wat jy na ons gebring het, het by my ingekom om met my te spot:
18
And it came to pass, as I lifted up my voice and cried, that he left his garment with me, and fled out.
En dit het gebeur, toe ek my stem ophef en skreeu, dat hy sy kleed by my agtergelaat het, en na buite gevlug het.
19
And it came to pass, when his master heard the words of his wife, which she spake unto him, saying, After this manner did thy servant to me; that his wrath was kindled.
En dit het gebeur, toe sy heer die woorde van sy vrou hoor, wat sy tot hom gespreek het, en gesê, Volgens hierdie woorde het jou slaaf aan my gedoen; dat sy toorn aangesteek is.

And Joseph’s master took him, and put him into the prison, a place where the king’s prisoners [were] bound: and he was there in the prison.
En Josef se heer het hom geneem, en hom in die tronk gesit, die plek waar die gevangenes van die koning gebind was: en hy was daar in die tronk.
21
But the LORD was with Joseph, and shewed him mercy, and gave him favour in the sight of the keeper of the prison.
Maar die HERE was met Josef, en het genade aan hom bewys, en hom guns gegee in die oë van die owerste van die tronk.
22
And the keeper of the prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners that [were] in the prison; and whatsoever they did there, he was the doer [of it].
En die owerste van die tronk het al die gevangenes wat in die tronk was, in Josef se hand oorgegee: en alles wat hulle daar gedoen het, het hy gedoen.

The keeper of the prison looked not to any thing [that was] under his hand; because the LORD was with him, and [that] which he did, the LORD made [it] to prosper.
Die owerste van die tronk het niks onder sy hand nagesien nie; omdat die HERE met hom was, en dit wat hy gedoen het, het die HERE voorspoedig gemaak.
