Thus saith the LORD unto me, Go and get thee a linen girdle, and put it upon thy loins, and put it not in water.
So het die HERE tot my gesê, Gaan en koop vir jou ’n linne gordel, en sit dit op jou lendene, en sit dit nie in water nie.

So I got a girdle according to the word of the LORD, and put [it] on my loins.
So het ek ‚'n gordel gekoop volgens die woord van die HERE, en dit op my lendene gesit.
3
And the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,
En die woord van die HERE het die tweede maal tot my gekom, sê,
4
Take the girdle that thou hast got, which [is] upon thy loins, and arise, go to Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the rock.
Neem die gordel wat jy gekoop het, wat op jou lendene is, en staan op, gaan na die Eufraat, en verberg dit daar in ‚'n rotsspleet.

So I went, and hid it by Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.
So het ek gegaan, en dit by die Eufraat verberg, soos die HERE my beveel het.

And it came to pass after many days, that the LORD said unto me, Arise, go to Euphrates, and take the girdle from thence, which I commanded thee to hide there.
En dit het gebeur ná baie dae, dat die HERE tot my gesê het, Staan op, gaan na die Eufraat, en neem die gordel van daar, wat ek jou beveel het om daar te verberg.

Then I went to Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it: and, behold, the girdle was marred, it was profitable for nothing.
Toe het ek na die Eufraat gegaan, en gegrawe, en die gordel uit die plek geneem waar ek dit verberg het: en kyk, die gordel was bedorwe, dit was tot niks nuttig nie.

Then the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,
Toe het die woord van die HERE tot my gekom, sê,
9
Thus saith the LORD, After this manner will I mar the pride of Judah, and the great pride of Jerusalem.
So sê die HERE, So sal ek die trotsheid van Juda en die groot trotsheid van Jérusalem bederf.
10
This evil people, which refuse to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart, and walk after other gods, to serve them, and to worship them, shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.
Hierdie boos volk, wat weier om my woorde te hoor, wat in die verbeelding van hulle hart wandel, en agter ander gode aangaan om hulle te dien, en om hulle te aanbid, sal selfs wees soos hierdie gordel, wat tot niks nuttig is nie.

For as the girdle cleaveth to the loins of a man, so have I caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people, and for a name, and for a praise, and for a glory: but they would not hear.
Want soos die gordel aan die lendene van ’n man kleef, so het ek die hele huis van Israel en die hele huis van Juda aan My laat kleef, sê die HERE; dat hulle vir My ’n volk, en ’n naam, en ’n lof, en ’n heerlikheid mag wees: maar hulle wou nie hoor nie.

Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word; Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Every bottle shall be filled with wine: and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?
Daarom sal jy hierdie woord tot hulle spreek; So sê die HERE God van Israel, Elke bottel sal met wyn gevul word: en hulle sal tot jou sê, Weet ons nie sekerlik dat elke bottel met wyn gevul sal word nie?

Then shalt thou say unto them, Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will fill all the inhabitants of this land, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne, and the priests, and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, with drunkenness.
Dan sal jy tot hulle sê, So sê die HERE, Kyk, ek sal al die inwoners van hierdie land, en die konings wat sit op Dawid se troon, en die priesters, en die profete, en al die inwoners van Jérusalem, met dronkenskap vul.

And I will dash them one against another, even the fathers and the sons together, saith the LORD: I will not pity, nor spare, nor have mercy, but destroy them.
En ek sal hulle teen mekaar verpletter, selfs die vaders en die seuns saam, sê die HERE: ek sal nie spaar, en nie jammer wees, en nie medelye hê nie, maar vernietig hulle.

Hear ye, and give ear; be not proud: for the LORD hath spoken.
Hoor julle, en gee oor; wees nie trots nie: want die HERE het gespreek.
16
Give glory to the LORD your God, before he cause darkness, and before your feet stumble upon the dark mountains, and, while ye look for light, he turn it into the shadow of death, [and] make [it] gross darkness.
Gee heerlikheid aan die HERE julle God, voordat Hy duisternis bring, en voordat julle voete struikel op die donker berge, en, terwyl julle na lig uitsien, Hy dit in die skaduwee van die dood verander, en dit in dik duisternis stel.

But if ye will not hear it, my soul shall weep in secret places for [your] pride; and mine eye shall weep sore, and run down with tears, because the LORD’S flock is carried away captive.
Maar as julle dit nie sal hoor nie, sal my siel in geheime plekke ween vanweë julle trotsheid; en my oog sal bitterlik ween, en met trane afloop, omdat die kudde van die HERE gevange geneem is.

Say unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down: for your principalities shall come down, [even] the crown of your glory.
Sê tot die koning en tot die koningin, Verneder julle, sit neer: want julle hooftooisels sal afkom, selfs die kroon van julle heerlikheid.
19
The cities of the south shall be shut up, and none shall open [them]: Judah shall be carried away captive all of it, it shall be wholly carried away captive.
Die stede van die suide sal toegesluit word, en niemand sal hulle oopmaak nie: Juda sal heeltemal weggevoer word, dit sal heeltemal weggevoer word.

Lift up your eyes, and behold them that come from the north: where [is] the flock [that] was given thee, thy beautiful flock?
Hef julle oë op, en aanskou dié wat van die noorde af kom: waar is die kudde wat aan jou gegee is, jou pragtige kudde?
21
What wilt thou say when he shall punish thee? for thou hast taught them [to be] captains, [and] as chief over thee: shall not sorrows take thee, as a woman in travail?
Wat sal jy sê wanneer Hy jou sal besoek? want jy het hulle geleer om kapteins te wees, en as hoof oor jou: sal nie smart jou aangryp, soos ’n vrou in barensnood nie?

And if thou say in thine heart, Wherefore come these things upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered, [and] thy heels made bare.
En as jy in jou hart sê, Waarom kom hierdie dinge oor my? Vir die grootheid van jou ongeregtigheid is jou rompe ontbloot, en jou hakke ontbloot.

Can the Ethiopian change his skin, or the leopard his spots? [then] may ye also do good, that are accustomed to do evil.
Kan die Etiopiër sy vel verander, of die luiperd sy kolle? dan mag julle ook goed doen, wat gewoond is om kwaad te doen.
24
Therefore will I scatter them as the stubble that passeth away by the wind of the wilderness.
Daarom sal ek hulle soos die stoppels verstrooi wat verbygaan deur die wind van die wildernis.
25
This [is] thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me, saith the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.
Dit is jou lot, die deel van jou mates van My, sê die HERE; omdat jy My vergeet het, en op valsheid vertrou het.

Therefore will I discover thy skirts upon thy face, that thy shame may appear.
Daarom sal ek ook jou rompe oor jou aangesig ontdek, dat jou skaamte mag verskyn.
27
I have seen thine adulteries, and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom, [and] thine abominations on the hills in the fields. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean? when [shall it] once [be]?
Ek het jou egbreuke gesien, en jou hinnikings, die lelikheid van jou hoerery, en jou gruwels op die heuwels in die velde. Wee jou, o Jérusalem! sal jy nie rein gemaak word nie? wanneer sal dit nog wees?
