The word which came unto Jeremiah from the LORD, when king Zedekiah sent unto him Pashur the son of Melchiah, and Zephaniah the son of Maaseiah the priest, saying,
Die woord wat tot Jeremia van die HERE gekom het, toe koning Sedekía Pashur die seun van Malkía, en Sefanja die seun van Maäseja die priester tot hom gestuur het, sê,

Inquire, I pray thee, of the LORD for us; for Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon maketh war against us; if so be that the LORD will deal with us according to all his wondrous works, that he may go up from us.
Vra, ek bid jou, die HERE vir ons; want Nebukadrésar koning van Babel maak oorlog teen ons; as die HERE met ons wil handel volgens al sy wonderlike werke, dat hy van ons mag optrek.

Then said Jeremiah unto them, Thus shall ye say to Zedekiah:
Toe het Jeremia tot hulle gesê, So moet julle tot Sedekía sê:

Thus saith the LORD God of Israel; Behold, I will turn back the weapons of war that [are] in your hands, wherewith ye fight against the king of Babylon, and [against] the Chaldeans, which besiege you without the walls, and I will assemble them into the midst of this city.
So sê die HERE God van Israel; Kyk, ek sal die wapens van oorlog wat in julle hande is, waarmee julle teen die koning van Babel en teen die Chaldeërs veg, wat julle buite die mure beleër, omdraai, en ek sal hulle in die midde van hierdie stad bymekaarmaak.

And I myself will fight against you with an outstretched hand and with a strong arm, even in anger, and in fury, and in great wrath.
En ek self sal teen julle veg met ‚'n uitgestrekte hand en met ‚'n sterk arm, selfs in toorn, en in grimmigheid, en in groot verontwaardiging.

And I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast: they shall die of a great pestilence.
En ek sal die inwoners van hierdie stad, beide die mens en die dier, tref: hulle sal sterwe van ‚'n groot pes.

And afterward, saith the LORD, I will deliver Zedekiah king of Judah, and his servants, and the people, and such as are left in this city from the pestilence, from the sword, and from the famine, into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of those that seek their life: and he shall smite them with the edge of the sword; he shall not spare them, neither have pity, nor have mercy.
En daarna, sê die HERE, sal ek Sedekía koning van Juda, en sy dienaars, en die volk, en dié wat in hierdie stad oorbly van die pes, van die swaard, en van die hongersnood, in die hand van Nebukadrésar koning van Babel, en in die hand van hulle vyande, en in die hand van dié wat hulle lewe soek, oorgee: en hy sal hulle met die skerpte van die swaard slaan; hy sal hulle nie spaar nie, en ook nie medelye of barmhartigheid hê nie.

And unto this people thou shalt say, Thus saith the LORD; Behold, I set before you the way of life, and the way of death.
En tot hierdie volk sal jy sê, So sê die HERE; Kyk, ek sit voor julle die weg van die lewe, en die weg van die dood.

He that abideth in this city shall die by the sword, and by the famine, and by the pestilence: but he that goeth out, and falleth to the Chaldeans that besiege you, he shall live, and his life shall be unto him for a prey.
Hy wat in hierdie stad bly, sal sterwe deur die swaard, en deur die hongersnood, en deur die pes: maar hy wat uitgaan, en val by die Chaldeërs wat julle beleër, hy sal lewe, en sy lewe sal vir hom tot ’n prooi wees.

For I have set my face against this city for evil, and not for good, saith the LORD: it shall be given into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall burn it with fire.
Want ek het my aangesig teen hierdie stad gestel tot die kwaad, en nie tot die goeie nie, sê die HERE: dit sal in die hand van die koning van Babel oorgegee word, en hy sal dit met vuur verbrand.

And touching the house of the king of Judah, [say], Hear ye the word of the LORD;
En aangaande die huis van die koning van Juda, hoor julle die woord van die HERE;
12
O house of David, thus saith the LORD; Execute judgment in the morning, and deliver [him that is] spoiled out of the hand of the oppressor, lest my fury go out like fire, and burn that none can quench [it], because of the evil of your doings.
O huis van Dawid, so sê die HERE; Voer oordeel in die môre uit, en red hom wat geplunder is uit die hand van die verdrukker, dat my grimmigheid nie soos vuur uitgaan, en brand, dat niemand dit kan uitblus nie, vanweë die boosheid van julle doenings.

Behold, I [am] against thee, O inhabitant of the valley, [and] rock of the plain, saith the LORD; which say, Who shall come down against us? or who shall enter into our habitations?
Kyk, ek is teen jou, o inwoner van die vallei, en rots van die vlakte, sê die HERE; wat sê, Wie sal teen ons afkom? of wie sal in ons wonings inkom?

But I will punish you according to the fruit of your doings, saith the LORD: and I will kindle a fire in the forest thereof, and it shall devour all things round about it.
Maar ek sal julle besoek volgens die vrug van julle doenings, sê die HERE: en ek sal ’n vuur in haar woud aansteek, en dit sal al die dinge rondom haar verteer.
