In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,
In die begin van die regering van Jójakim die seun van Josía koning van Juda het hierdie woord tot Jeremia van die HERE gekom, sê,

Thus saith the LORD to me; Make thee bonds and yokes, and put them upon thy neck,
So sê die HERE tot my; Maak vir jou bande en jukke, en sit hulle op jou nek,
3
And send them to the king of Edom, and to the king of Moab, and to the king of the Ammonites, and to the king of Tyrus, and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the messengers which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;
En stuur hulle na die koning van Edom, en na die koning van Moab, en na die koning van die Ammoniete, en na die koning van Tirus, en na die koning van Sidon, deur die hand van die boodskappers wat na Jérusalem tot Sedekía koning van Juda kom;

And command them to say unto their masters, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Thus shall ye say unto your masters;
En beveel hulle om tot hulle meesters te sê, So sê die HERE van leërskare, die God van Israel; So moet julle tot julle meesters sê;
5
I have made the earth, the man and the beast that [are] upon the ground, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom it seemed meet unto me.
Ek het die aarde, die mens en die dier wat op die aangesig van die aarde is, deur my groot mag en deur my uitgestrekte arm gemaak, en het dit aan wie dit My behaag het, gegee.

And now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant; and the beasts of the field have I given him also to serve him.
En nou het ek al hierdie lande in die hand van Nebukadrésar die koning van Babel, my dienaar, gegee; en die diere van die veld het ek hom ook gegee om hom te dien.

And all nations shall serve him, and his son, and his son’s son, until the very time of his land come: and then many nations and great kings shall serve themselves of him.
En al die nasies sal hom dien, en sy seun, en sy seun se seun, totdat die tyd van sy land self kom: en dan sal baie nasies en groot konings hom diensbaar maak.

And it shall come to pass, [that] the nation and kingdom which will not serve the same Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that nation will I punish, saith the LORD, with the sword, and with the famine, and with the pestilence, until I have consumed them by his hand.
En dit sal gebeur, dat die nasie en koninkryk wat nie die koning van Babel, Nebukadrésar, wil dien nie, en wat nie sy nek onder die juk van die koning van Babel sal sit nie, daardie nasie sal ek met die swaard, en met die hongersnood, en met die pes besoek, sê die HERE, totdat ek hulle deur sy hand verteer het.

Therefore hearken not ye to your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreamers, nor to your enchanters, nor to your sorcerers, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:
Daarom luister nie na julle profete, en na julle waarsêers, en na julle dromers, en na julle towenaars, en na julle toornaars, wat tot julle spreek, sê, Julle sal nie die koning van Babel dien nie:
10
For they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.
Want hulle profeteer ‚'n leuen tot julle, om julle ver van julle land af te verdrywe; en dat ek julle moet uitdrywe, en julle moet vergaan.
11
But the nations that bring their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, saith the LORD; and they shall till it, and dwell therein.
Maar die nasies wat hulle nek onder die juk van die koning van Babel sit, en hom dien, dié sal ek in hulle eie land laat bly, sê die HERE; en hulle sal dit bewerk, en daarin woon.

I spake also to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Bring your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon, and serve him and his people, and live.
Ek het ook tot Sedekía koning van Juda volgens al hierdie woorde gespreek, sê, Bring julle nekke onder die juk van die koning van Babel, en dien hom en sy volk, en leef.

Why will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD hath spoken against the nation that will not serve the king of Babylon?
Waarom wil julle, jy en jou volk, sterwe deur die swaard, deur die hongersnood, en deur die pes, soos die HERE aangaande die nasie gespreek het wat die koning van Babel nie wil dien nie?

Therefore hearken not unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.
Daarom luister nie na die woorde van die profete wat tot julle spreek, sê, Julle sal nie die koning van Babel dien nie: want hulle profeteer ’n leuen tot julle.

For I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out, and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.
Want ek het hulle nie gestuur nie, sê die HERE, tog profeteer hulle ’n leuen in my Naam; dat ek julle mag uitdrywe, en dat julle mag vergaan, julle, en die profete wat tot julle profeteer.

Also I spake to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus saith the LORD; Hearken not to the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’S house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon: for they prophesy a lie unto you.
Ook het ek tot die priesters en tot al hierdie volk gespreek, sê, So sê die HERE; Luister nie na die woorde van julle profete wat tot julle profeteer, sê, Kyk, die vate van die huis van die HERE sal nou gou uit Babel teruggebring word nie: want hulle profeteer ’n leuen tot julle.

Hearken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon, and live: wherefore should this city be laid waste?
Luister nie na hulle nie; dien die koning van Babel, en leef: waarom sou hierdie stad ‚'n verwoesting word?
18
But if they [be] prophets, and if the word of the LORD be with them, let them now make intercession to the LORD of hosts, that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD, and [in] the house of the king of Judah, and at Jerusalem, go not to Babylon.
Maar as hulle profete is, en as die woord van die HERE by hulle is, laat hulle nou die HERE van leërskare smeek, dat die vate wat in die huis van die HERE, en in die huis van die koning van Juda, en in Jérusalem oorbly, nie na Babel toe gaan nie.

For thus saith the LORD of hosts concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city,
Want so sê die HERE van leërskare aangaande die pilare, en aangaande die see, en aangaande die voetstukke, en aangaande die oorblyfsel van die vate wat in hierdie stad oorbly,

Which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon took not, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;
Wat Nebukadrésar koning van Babel nie geneem het nie, toe hy Jekonja die seun van Jójakim koning van Juda uit Jérusalem na Babel weggevoer het, en al die edeles van Juda en Jérusalem;

Yea, thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, concerning the vessels that remain [in] the house of the LORD, and [in] the house of the king of Judah and of Jerusalem;
Ja, so sê die HERE van leërskare, die God van Israel, aangaande die vate wat in die huis van die HERE, en in die huis van die koning van Juda en van Jérusalem oorbly;
22
They shall be carried to Babylon, and there shall they be until the day that I visit them, saith the LORD; then will I bring them up, and restore them to this place.
Hulle sal na Babel gebring word, en daar sal hulle wees tot die dag dat ek hulle besoek, sê die HERE; dan sal ek hulle opbring, en hulle na hierdie plek terugbring.
