In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

The same was in the beginning with God.

All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.
Alle dinge is deur Hom gemaak; en sonder Hom is nie een ding gemaak wat gemaak is nie.

In him was life; and the life was the light of men.
In Hom was lewe; en die lewe was die lig van die mense.

And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.
En die lig skyn in die duisternis; en die duisternis het dit nie begryp nie.

There was a man sent from God, whose name [was] John.
Daar was ’n man gestuur van God, wie se naam Johannes was.
7
The same came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all [men] through him might believe.
Dieselfde het gekom tot ’n getuienis, om van die Lig te getuig, dat almal deur Hom mag glo.
8
He was not that Light, but [was sent] to bear witness of that Light.
Hy was nie daardie Lig nie, maar is gestuur om van daardie Lig te getuig.
9
[That] was the true Light, which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.
Dit was die ware Lig, wat elke mens verlig wat in die wêreld kom.
10
He was in the world, and the world was made by him, and the world knew him not.
Hy was in die wêreld, en die wêreld is deur Hom gemaak, en die wêreld het Hom nie geken nie.

He came unto his own, and his own received him not.
Hy het tot sy eie gekom, en sy eie het Hom nie ontvang nie.
12
But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, [even] to them that believe on his name:
Maar soveel as Hom ontvang het, aan hulle het Hy mag gegee om kinders van God te word, selfs aan hulle wat in sy Naam glo:
13
Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.
Wat nie uit bloed, of uit die wil van die vlees, of uit die wil van die man, gebore is nie, maar uit God.
14
And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.
En die Woord is vlees geword, en het onder ons gewoon, (en ons het sy heerlikheid aanskou, die heerlikheid soos van die eniggeborene van die Vader,) vol van genade en waarheid.

John bare witness of him, and cried, saying, This was he of whom I spake, He that cometh after me is preferred before me: for he was before me.
Johannes het van Hom getuig, en uitgeroep, sê, Dit was Hy van wie ek gesê het, Hy wat ná my kom is voor my verkies; want Hy was voor my.

And of his fulness have all we received, and grace for grace.
En uit sy volheid het ons almal ontvang, en genade op genade.
17
For the law was given by Moses, [but] grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.
Want die wet is deur Moses gegee, maar genade en waarheid is deur Jesus Christus gekom.
18
No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].
Niemand het God ooit gesien nie; die eniggeborene Seun, wat in die skoot van die Vader is, Hy het Hom verklaar.

And this is the record of John, when the Jews sent priests and Levites from Jerusalem to ask him, Who art thou?
En dit is die getuienis van Johannes, toe die Jode priesters en Leviete van Jérusalem gestuur het om hom te vra, Wie is jy?

And he confessed, and denied not; but confessed, I am not the Christ.
En hy het bely, en nie ontken nie; maar bely, Ek is nie die Christus nie.

And they asked him, What then? Art thou Elias? And he saith, I am not. Art thou that prophet? And he answered, No.
En hulle het hom gevra, Wat dan? Is jy Elia? En hy sê, Ek is nie. Is jy daardie profeet? En hy het geantwoord, Nee.

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? that we may give an answer to them that sent us. What sayest thou of thyself?
Toe het hulle tot hom gesê, Wie is jy? dat ons antwoord mag gee aan dié wat ons gestuur het. Wat sê jy van jouself?

He said, I [am] the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias.
Hy het gesê, Ek is die stem van een wat roep in die wildernis, Maak die weg van die Here reguit, soos die profeet Jesaja gesê het.

And they which were sent were of the Pharisees.
En dié wat gestuur is, was van die Fariseërs.

And they asked him, and said unto him, Why baptizest thou then, if thou be not that Christ, nor Elias, neither that prophet?
En hulle het hom gevra, en tot hom gesê, Waarom doop jy dan, as jy nie die Christus is nie, of Elia, of daardie profeet?

John answered them, saying, I baptize with water: but there standeth one among you, whom ye know not;
Johannes het hulle geantwoord, sê, Ek doop met water: maar daar staan een onder julle, wat julle nie ken nie;
27
He it is, who coming after me is preferred before me, whose shoe’s latchet I am not worthy to unloose.
Hy is dit, wat ná my kom, wat voor my verkies is, wie se skoenriem ek nie waardig is om los te maak nie.

These things were done in Bethabara beyond Jordan, where John was baptizing.
Hierdie dinge is in Betánië oorkant die Jordaan gedoen, waar Johannes besig was om te doop.

The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.
Die volgende dag sien Johannes Jesus na hom toe kom, en sê, Kyk die Lam van God, wat die sonde van die wêreld wegneem.

This is he of whom I said, After me cometh a man which is preferred before me: for he was before me.
Dit is Hy van wie ek gesê het, Ná my kom ’n man wat voor my verkies is: want Hy was voor my.

And I knew him not: but that he should be made manifest to Israel, therefore am I come baptizing with water.
En ek het Hom nie geken nie: maar dat Hy aan Israel geopenbaar sou word, daarom is ek gekom om met water te doop.

And John bare record, saying, I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove, and it abode upon him.
En Johannes het getuig, sê, Ek het die Gees sien neerdaal van die hemel soos ’n duif, en Hy het op Hom gebly.

And I knew him not: but he that sent me to baptize with water, the same said unto me, Upon whom thou shalt see the Spirit descending, and remaining on him, the same is he which baptizeth with the Holy Ghost.
En ek het Hom nie geken nie: maar Hy wat my gestuur het om met water te doop, dieselfde het tot my gesê, Op wie jy die Gees sien neerdaal, en op Hom bly, dieselfde is Hy wat met die Heilige Gees doop.

And I saw, and bare record that this is the Son of God.
En ek het gesien, en getuig dat dit die Seun van God is.

Again the next day after John stood, and two of his disciples;
Weer die volgende dag het Johannes gestaan, en twee van sy dissipels;

And looking upon Jesus as he walked, he saith, Behold the Lamb of God!
En kykende na Jesus soos Hy wandel, sê hy, Kyk die Lam van God!

And the two disciples heard him speak, and they followed Jesus.
En die twee dissipels het hom hoor spreek, en hulle het Jesus gevolg.

Then Jesus turned, and saw them following, and saith unto them, What seek ye? They said unto him, Rabbi, (which is to say, being interpreted, Master,) where dwellest thou?
Toe het Jesus Hom omgedraai, en hulle sien volg, en sê tot hulle, Wat soek julle? Hulle het tot Hom gesê, Rabbi, (wat vertaal is, Meester,) waar woon U?

He saith unto them, Come and see. They came and saw where he dwelt, and abode with him that day: for it was about the tenth hour.
Hy sê tot hulle, Kom en sien. Hulle het gekom en gesien waar Hy woon, en by Hom gebly daardie dag: want dit was omtrent die tiende uur.

One of the two which heard John [speak], and followed him, was Andrew, Simon Peter’s brother.
Een van die twee wat Johannes gehoor het spreek, en Hom gevolg het, was Andréas, Simon Petrus se broer.

He first findeth his own brother Simon, and saith unto him, We have found the Messias, which is, being interpreted, the Christ.
Hy vind eers sy eie broer Simon, en sê tot hom, Ons het die Messias gevind, wat vertaal is, die Christus.

And he brought him to Jesus. And when Jesus beheld him, he said, Thou art Simon the son of Jona: thou shalt be called Cephas, which is by interpretation, A stone.
En hy het hom by Jesus gebring. En toe Jesus hom aanskou, het Hy gesê, Jy is Simon die seun van Jona: jy sal Kefas genoem word, wat vertaal is, ’n steen.

The day following Jesus would go forth into Galilee, and findeth Philip, and saith unto him, Follow me.
Die volgende dag wou Jesus na Galilea uitgaan, en vind Filippus, en sê tot hom, Volg My.

Now Philip was of Bethsaida, the city of Andrew and Peter.
Nou was Filippus van Betsáida, die stad van Andréas en Petrus.

Philip findeth Nathanael, and saith unto him, We have found him, of whom Moses in the law, and the prophets, did write, Jesus of Nazareth, the son of Joseph.
Filippus vind Natánael, en sê tot hom, Ons het Hom gevind van wie Moses in die wet, en die profete, geskrywe het, Jesus van Nasaret, die seun van Josef.

And Nathanael said unto him, Can there any good thing come out of Nazareth? Philip saith unto him, Come and see.
En Natánael het tot hom gesê, Kan daar enige goeie ding uit Nasaret kom? Filippus sê tot hom, Kom en sien.

Jesus saw Nathanael coming to him, and saith of him, Behold an Israelite indeed, in whom is no guile!
Jesus het Natánael na Hom sien kom, en sê van hom, Kyk ’n Israeliet inderdaad, in wie geen bedrog is nie!

Nathanael saith unto him, Whence knowest thou me? Jesus answered and said unto him, Before that Philip called thee, when thou wast under the fig tree, I saw thee.
Natánael sê tot Hom, Van waar ken U my? Jesus het geantwoord en tot hom gesê, Voordat Filippus jou geroep het, toe jy onder die vyeboom was, het ek jou gesien.

Nathanael answered and saith unto him, Rabbi, thou art the Son of God; thou art the King of Israel.
Natánael het geantwoord en tot Hom gesê, Rabbi, U is die Seun van God; U is die Koning van Israel.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Because I said unto thee, I saw thee under the fig tree, believest thou? thou shalt see greater things than these.
Jesus het geantwoord en tot hom gesê, Omdat ek tot jou gesê het, Ek het jou onder die vyeboom gesien, glo jy? jy sal groter dinge as hierdie sien.

And he saith unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Hereafter ye shall see heaven open, and the angels of God ascending and descending upon the Son of man.
En Hy sê tot hom, Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Hierna sal julle die hemel oop sien, en die engele van God opklim en afdaal op die Seun van die mens.
