Now before the feast of the passover, when Jesus knew that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto the Father, having loved his own which were in the world, he loved them unto the end.
Nou voor die fees van die pasga, toe Jesus geweet het dat sy uur gekom het dat Hy uit hierdie wêreld na die Vader sou oorgaan, omdat Hy sy eie wat in die wêreld was, liefgehad het, het Hy hulle tot die einde toe liefgehad.

And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon’s [son], to betray him;
En die aandete was klaar, die duiwel het nou al in die hart van Judas Iskáriot, Simon se seun, gegee om Hom te verraai,
3
Jesus knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that he was come from God, and went to God;
Jesus, wetende dat die Vader alle dinge in sy hande gegee het, en dat Hy van God uitgegaan het, en na God gaan;
4
He riseth from supper, and laid aside his garments; and took a towel, and girded himself.
Staan op van die aandete, en lê sy klere af; en het ’n doek geneem, en Homself omgord.

After that he poureth water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples’ feet, and to wipe [them] with the towel wherewith he was girded.
Daarna gooi Hy water in ‚'n bak, en begin om die dissipels se voete te was, en af te vee met die doek waarmee Hy omgord was.

Then cometh he to Simon Peter: and Peter saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?
Toe kom Hy by Simon Petrus: en Petrus sê tot Hom, Here, was U my voete?
7
Jesus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter.
Jesus het geantwoord en tot hom gesê, Wat ek doen weet jy nie nou nie; maar jy sal dit hierna weet.
8
Peter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.
Petrus sê tot Hom, U sal my voete tot in ewigheid nooit was nie. Jesus het hom geantwoord, As ek jou nie was nie, het jy geen deel met My nie.

Simon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also [my] hands and [my] head.
Simon Petrus sê tot Hom, Here, nie alleen my voete nie, maar ook my hande en my hoof.
10
Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash [his] feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.
Jesus sê tot hom, Hy wat gewas is, hoef nie meer as sy voete te was nie, maar is heeltemal rein: en julle is rein, maar nie almal nie.
11
For he knew who should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.
Want Hy het geweet wie Hom sou verraai; daarom het Hy gesê, Julle is nie almal rein nie.
12
So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?
So nadat Hy hulle voete gewas het, en sy klere geneem het, en weer gaan sit het, het Hy tot hulle gesê, Weet julle wat ek aan julle gedoen het?
13
Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for [so] I am.
Julle noem My Meester en Here: en julle sê goed; want so is ek.
14
If I then, [your] Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.
As ek dan, julle Here en Meester, julle voete gewas het; behoort julle ook mekaar se voete te was.
15
For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.
Want ek het julle ‚'n voorbeeld gegee, dat julle moet doen soos ek aan julle gedoen het.
16
Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.
Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Die dienaar is nie groter as sy heer nie; en ook hy wat gestuur is, nie groter as hy wat hom gestuur het nie.
17
If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.
As julle hierdie dinge weet, sal julle geseënd wees as julle dit doen.
18
I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled, He that eateth bread with me hath lifted up his heel against me.
Ek spreek nie van julle almal nie: ek weet wie ek uitverkies het: maar dat die Skrif vervul mag word, Hy wat brood saam met My eet, het sy hiel teen My opgehef.

Now I tell you before it come, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am [he].
Nou sê ek dit vir julle voordat dit gebeur, dat, wanneer dit gebeur, julle mag glo dat ek is.
20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.
Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Hy wat ontvang wie ek stuur, ontvang My; en hy wat My ontvang, ontvang Hom wat My gestuur het.

When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.
Toe Jesus dit gesê het, is Hy ontsteld in die gees, en het getuig, en gesê, Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, dat een van julle My sal verraai.

Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.
Toe het die dissipels na mekaar gekyk, twyfelende van wie Hy dit gespreek het.
23
Now there was leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.
Nou was daar een van sy dissipels wat teen Jesus se bors geleun het, wat Jesus liefgehad het.
24
Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.
Simon Petrus het daarom aan hom gewink, dat hy sou vra wie dit was van wie Hy gespreek het.
25
He then lying on Jesus’ breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?
Hy dan, wat teen Jesus se bors geleun het, sê tot Hom, Here, wie is dit?
26
Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped [it]. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave [it] to Judas Iscariot, [the son] of Simon.
Jesus het geantwoord, Dit is hy aan wie ek die stuk sal gee, wanneer ek dit gedoop het. En toe Hy die stuk gedoop het, gee Hy dit aan Judas Iskáriot, die seun van Simon.

And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.
En ná die stuk het die Satan in hom gegaan. Toe sê Jesus tot hom, Wat jy doen, doen dit gou.
28
Now no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.
Nou het niemand by die tafel geweet met watter doel Hy dit tot hom gesê het nie.
29
For some [of them] thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus had said unto him, Buy [those things] that we have need of against the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.
Want sommige het gedink, omdat Judas die beurs gehad het, dat Jesus tot hom gesê het, Koop die dinge wat ons nodig het vir die fees; of, dat hy iets aan die armes moes gee.

He then having received the sop went immediately out: and it was night.
Hy dan, nadat hy die stuk ontvang het, het dadelik uitgegaan: en dit was nag.
31
Therefore, when he was gone out, Jesus said, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him.
Daarom, toe hy uitgegaan het, sê Jesus, Nou is die Seun van die mens verheerlik, en God is in Hom verheerlik.
32
If God be glorified in him, God shall also glorify him in himself, and shall straightway glorify him.
As God in Hom verheerlik is, sal God Hom ook in Homself verheerlik, en sal Hom dadelik verheerlik.
33
Little children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say to you.
Kindertjies, nog ’n bietjie is ek by julle. Julle sal My soek: en soos ek tot die Jode gesê het, Waar ek heengaan, kan julle nie kom nie; so sê ek nou tot julle.
34
A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.
’n Nuwe gebod gee ek julle, Dat julle mekaar moet liefhê; soos ek julle liefgehad het, dat julle ook mekaar moet liefhê.
35
By this shall all [men] know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
Daaraan sal almal weet dat julle my dissipels is, as julle liefde het onder mekaar.
36
Simon Peter said unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered him, Whither I go, thou canst not follow me now; but thou shalt follow me afterwards.
Simon Petrus sê tot Hom, Here, waarheen gaan U? Jesus het hom geantwoord, Waar ek heengaan, kan jy My nou nie volg nie; maar jy sal My hierna volg.
37
Peter said unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee now? I will lay down my life for thy sake.
Petrus sê tot Hom, Here, waarom kan ek U nie nou volg nie? ek sal my lewe vir U aflê.
38
Jesus answered him, Wilt thou lay down thy life for my sake? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.
Jesus het hom geantwoord, Sal jy jou lewe vir My aflê? Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir jou, Die haan sal nie kraai nie, totdat jy My drie maal verloën het.
