These things have I spoken unto you, that ye should not be offended.

Hierdie dinge het ek tot julle gespreek, dat julle nie gestuit word nie.

2

They shall put you out of the synagogues: yea, the time cometh, that whosoever killeth you will think that he doeth God service.

Hulle sal julle uit die sinagoges ban: ja, die tyd kom, dat elkeen wat julle doodmaak, sal dink dat hy God ‚'n diens bewys.

And these things will they do unto you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.

En hierdie dinge sal hulle aan julle doen, omdat hulle die Vader nie geken het nie, en ook nie My nie.

But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not unto you at the beginning, because I was with you.

Maar hierdie dinge het ek julle gesê, dat wanneer die tyd kom, julle mag onthou dat ek dit julle gesê het. En hierdie dinge het ek julle nie van die begin af gesê nie, omdat ek by julle was.

But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?

Maar nou gaan ek heen na Hom wat My gestuur het; en niemand van julle vra My, Waarheen gaan U nie?

But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

Maar omdat ek hierdie dinge tot julle gespreek het, het droefheid julle hart gevul.

7

Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

Nietemin sê ek julle die waarheid; Dit is voordelig vir julle dat ek weggaan: want as ek nie weggaan nie, sal die Trooster nie tot julle kom nie; maar as ek vertrek, sal ek Hom tot julle stuur.

And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:

En wanneer Hy kom, sal Hy die wêreld oortuig van sonde, en van geregtigheid, en van oordeel:

9

Of sin, because they believe not on me;

Van sonde, omdat hulle nie in My glo nie;

10

Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;

Van geregtigheid, omdat ek na my Vader gaan, en julle sien My nie meer nie;

11

Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

Van oordeel, omdat die owerste van hierdie wêreld geoordeel is.

12

I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.

Ek het nog baie dinge om tot julle te sê, maar julle kan dit nou nie dra nie.

13

Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, [that] shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

Hoebeit wanneer Hy, die Gees van die waarheid, kom, sal Hy julle in die hele waarheid lei: want Hy sal nie uit Homself spreek nie; maar wat Hy ook al hoor, sal Hy spreek: en Hy sal julle die dinge wat kom, aankondig.

He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.

Hy sal My verheerlik: want Hy sal van myne neem, en dit aan julle aankondig.

15

All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew [it] unto you.

Alles wat die Vader het is myne: daarom het ek gesê, dat Hy van myne sal neem, en dit aan julle aankondig.

16

A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.

‚'n Bietjie, en julle sien My nie; en weer ‚'n bietjie, en julle sal My sien, omdat ek na die Vader gaan.

17

Then said [some] of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith unto us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?

Toe het sommige van sy dissipels onder mekaar gesê, Wat is dit wat Hy tot ons sê, ’n Bietjie, en julle sien My nie; en weer ’n bietjie, en julle sal My sien: en, Omdat ek na die Vader gaan?

18

They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.

Hulle het daarom gesê, Wat is dit wat Hy sê, ’n Bietjie? ons weet nie wat Hy sê nie.

19

Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?

Nou het Jesus geweet dat hulle Hom wou vra, en het tot hulle gesê, Ondersoek julle onder mekaar aangaande dit wat ek gesê het, ’n Bietjie, en julle sien My nie; en weer ’n bietjie, en julle sal My sien?

20

Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.

Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Dat julle sal ween en weeklaag, maar die wêreld sal bly wees: en julle sal bedroef wees, maar julle droefheid sal in blydskap verander word.

21

A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.

’n Vrou, wanneer sy in barensnood is, het droefheid, omdat haar uur gekom het: maar so gou as sy die kind gebaar het, onthou sy nie meer die angs nie, om die blydskap ontwil dat ’n mens in die wêreld gebore is.

And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

En julle het nou ook droefheid: maar ek sal julle weer sien, en julle hart sal bly wees, en julle blydskap neem niemand van julle weg nie.

23

And in that day ye shall ask me nothing. Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you.

En in daardie dag sal julle My niks vra nie. Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Wat julle ook al die Vader in my Naam sal vra, sal Hy julle gee.

24

Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.

Tot nou toe het julle niks in my Naam gevra nie: vra, en julle sal ontvang, dat julle blydskap vol mag wees.

25

These things have I spoken unto you in proverbs: but the time cometh, when I shall no more speak unto you in proverbs, but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.

Hierdie dinge het ek tot julle in gelykenisse gespreek: maar die tyd kom, wanneer ek nie meer in gelykenisse tot julle sal spreek nie, maar julle openlik van die Vader sal aankondig.

At that day ye shall ask in my name: and I say not unto you, that I will pray the Father for you:

In daardie dag sal julle in my Naam vra: en ek sê nie tot julle, dat ek die Vader vir julle sal bid nie:

27

For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came out from God.

Want die Vader self het julle lief, omdat julle My liefgehad het, en geglo het dat ek van God uitgegaan het.

28

I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.

Ek is van die Vader uitgegaan, en is in die wêreld gekom: weer, ek verlaat die wêreld, en gaan na die Vader.

29

His disciples said unto him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.

Sy dissipels sê tot Hom, Kyk, nou spreek U openlik, en spreek geen gelykenis nie.

30

Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest forth from God.

Nou is ons seker dat U alle dinge weet, en dat niemand U hoef te vra nie: hierdeur glo ons dat U van God uitgegaan het.

31

Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?

Jesus het hulle geantwoord, Glo julle nou?

32

Behold, the hour cometh, yea, is now come, that ye shall be scattered, every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.

Kyk, die uur kom, ja, is nou gekom, dat julle verstrooi sal word, elkeen na sy eie, en My alleen sal laat: en tog is ek nie alleen nie, omdat die Vader by My is.

33

These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.

Hierdie dinge het ek tot julle gespreek, dat julle in My vrede mag hê. In die wêreld sal julle verdrukking hê: maar wees goedsmoeds; ek het die wêreld oorwin.
