Jesus went unto the mount of Olives.

Jesus het na die Olyfberg gegaan.

And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

En vroeg in die môre het Hy weer in die tempel gekom, en die hele volk het by Hom gekom; en Hy het gaan sit, en hulle geleer.

And the scribes and Pharisees brought unto him a woman taken in adultery; and when they had set her in the midst,

En die skrifgeleerdes en Fariseërs het ’n vrou by Hom gebring wat in egbreuk betrap is; en toe hulle haar in die midde gestel het,

They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.

Sê hulle tot Hom, Meester, hierdie vrou is op die daad betrap in egbreuk.

Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?

Nou het Moses in die wet ons beveel dat sulkes gestenig moet word: maar wat sê U?

This they said, tempting him, that they might have to accuse him. But Jesus stooped down, and with [his] finger wrote on the ground, [as though he heard them not].

Dit het hulle gesê om Hom te toets, dat hulle iets mag hê om Hom mee aan te kla. Maar Jesus het neergebuig, en met sy vinger op die grond geskrywe, asof Hy hulle nie gehoor het nie.

So when they continued asking him, he lifted up himself, and said unto them, He that is without sin among you, let him first cast a stone at her.

So toe hulle aangehou het om Hom te vra, het Hy Hom opgerig, en tot hulle gesê, Hy wat sonder sonde is onder julle, laat hom die eerste ’n klip op haar gooi.

And again he stooped down, and wrote on the ground.

En weer het Hy neergebuig, en op die grond geskrywe.

And they which heard [it], being convicted by [their own] conscience, went out one by one, beginning at the eldest, [even] unto the last: and Jesus was left alone, and the woman standing in the midst.

En hulle wat dit gehoor het, omdat hulle deur hulle eie gewete oortuig was, het uitgegaan een vir een, begin by die oudstes, selfs tot die laastes: en Jesus is alleen gelaat, en die vrou staande in die midde.

When Jesus had lifted up himself, and saw none but the woman, he said unto her, Woman, where are those thine accusers? hath no man condemned thee?

Toe Jesus Hom opgerig het, en niemand sien behalwe die vrou nie, het Hy tot haar gesê, Vrou, waar is daardie jou aanklaers? het niemand jou veroordeel nie?

She said, No man, Lord. And Jesus said unto her, Neither do I condemn thee: go, and sin no more.

Sy het gesê, Niemand, Here. En Jesus het tot haar gesê, Ook ek veroordeel jou nie: gaan, en sondig nie meer nie.

Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.

Toe het Jesus weer tot hulle gespreek, sê, Ek is die lig van die wêreld: hy wat My volg, sal nie in die duisternis wandel nie, maar sal die lig van die lewe hê.

The Pharisees therefore said unto him, Thou bearest record of thyself; thy record is not true.

Die Fariseërs het daarom tot Hom gesê, Jy getuig van jouself; jou getuienis is nie waar nie.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Though I bear record of myself, [yet] my record is true: for I know whence I came, and whither I go; but ye cannot tell whence I come, and whither I go.

Jesus het geantwoord en tot hulle gesê, Al getuig ek van Myself, is my getuienis tog waar: want ek weet vanwaar ek gekom het, en waarheen ek gaan; maar julle kan nie sê vanwaar ek kom, en waarheen ek gaan nie.

Ye judge after the flesh; I judge no man.

Julle oordeel na die vlees; ek oordeel niemand nie.

And yet if I judge, my judgment is true: for I am not alone, but I and the Father that sent me.

En tog as ek oordeel, is my oordeel waar: want ek is nie alleen nie, maar ek en die Vader wat My gestuur het.

It is also written in your law, that the testimony of two men is true.

Dit is ook in julle wet geskrywe, dat die getuienis van twee mense waar is.

I am one that bear witness of myself, and the Father that sent me beareth witness of me.

Ek is een wat van Myself getuig, en die Vader wat My gestuur het, getuig van My.

Then said they unto him, Where is thy Father? Jesus answered, Ye neither know me, nor my Father: if ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also.

Toe het hulle tot Hom gesê, Waar is u Vader? Jesus het geantwoord, Julle ken My nie, en ook nie my Vader nie: as julle My geken het, sou julle my Vader ook geken het.

These words spake Jesus in the treasury, as he taught in the temple: and no man laid hands on him; for his hour was not yet come.

Hierdie woorde het Jesus gespreek in die skatkamer, soos Hy geleer het in die tempel: en niemand het Hom gegryp nie; want sy uur was nog nie gekom nie.

Then said Jesus again unto them, I go my way, and ye shall seek me, and shall die in your sins: whither I go, ye cannot come.

Toe het Jesus weer tot hulle gesê, Ek gaan heen, en julle sal My soek, en in julle sondes sterwe: waar ek heengaan, kan julle nie kom nie.

Then said the Jews, Will he kill himself? because he saith, Whither I go, ye cannot come.

Toe het die Jode gesê, Sal Hy Homself doodmaak? omdat Hy sê, Waar ek heengaan, kan julle nie kom nie.

And he said unto them, Ye are from beneath; I am from above: ye are of this world; I am not of this world.

En Hy het tot hulle gesê, Julle is van benede; ek is van bo: julle is van hierdie wêreld; ek is nie van hierdie wêreld nie.

I said therefore unto you, that ye shall die in your sins: for if ye believe not that I am [he], ye shall die in your sins.

Ek het daarom tot julle gesê, dat julle in julle sondes sal sterwe: want as julle nie glo dat ek is nie, sal julle in julle sondes sterwe.

Then said they unto him, Who art thou? And Jesus saith unto them, Even [the same] that I said unto you from the beginning.

Toe het hulle tot Hom gesê, Wie is U? En Jesus sê tot hulle, Selfs dieselfde wat ek van die begin af tot julle gesê het.

I have many things to say and to judge of you: but he that sent me is true; and I speak to the world those things which I have heard of him.

Ek het baie dinge om van julle te sê en te oordeel: maar Hy wat My gestuur het is waaragtig; en ek spreek tot die wêreld daardie dinge wat ek van Hom gehoor het.

They understood not that he spake to them of the Father.

Hulle het nie verstaan dat Hy tot hulle van die Vader gespreek het nie.

Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am [he], and [that] I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

Toe het Jesus tot hulle gesê, Wanneer julle die Seun van die mens verhoog het, dan sal julle weet dat ek is, en dat ek niks uit Myself doen nie; maar soos my Vader My geleer het, spreek ek hierdie dinge.

And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

En Hy wat My gestuur het is met My: die Vader het My nie alleen gelaat nie; want ek doen altyd dié dinge wat Hom behaag.

As he spake these words, many believed on him.

Soos Hy hierdie woorde gespreek het, het baie in Hom geglo.

Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, [then] are ye my disciples indeed;

Toe het Jesus tot dié Jode gesê wat in Hom geglo het, As julle in my woord bly, is julle waarlik my dissipels;

And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

En julle sal die waarheid ken, en die waarheid sal julle vry maak.

They answered him, We be Abraham’s seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

Hulle het Hom geantwoord, Ons is Abraham se saad, en is nooit aan iemand diensbaar gewees nie: hoe sê U dan, Julle sal vry gemaak word?

Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

Jesus het hulle geantwoord, Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Elkeen wat die sonde doen is die dienskneg van die sonde.

And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: [but] the Son abideth ever.

En die dienskneg bly nie vir ewig in die huis nie: maar die Seun bly vir ewig.

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

As die Seun julle daarom vry maak, sal julle waarlik vry wees.

I know that ye are Abraham’s seed; but ye seek to kill me, because my word hath no place in you.

Ek weet dat julle Abraham se saad is; maar julle soek om My dood te maak, omdat my woord geen plek in julle het nie.

I speak that which I have seen with my Father: and ye do that which ye have seen with your father.

Ek spreek dit wat ek by my Vader gesien het: en julle doen dit wat julle by julle vader gesien het.

They answered and said unto him, Abraham is our father. Jesus saith unto them, If ye were Abraham’s children, ye would do the works of Abraham.

Hulle het geantwoord en tot Hom gesê, Abraham is ons vader. Jesus sê tot hulle, As julle Abraham se kinders was, sou julle die werke van Abraham doen.

But now ye seek to kill me, a man that hath told you the truth, which I have heard of God: this did not Abraham.

Maar nou soek julle om My dood te maak, ‚'n man wat julle die waarheid vertel het, wat ek van God gehoor het: dit het Abraham nie gedoen nie.

Ye do the deeds of your father. Then said they to him, We be not born of fornication; we have one Father, [even] God.

Julle doen die dade van julle vader. Toe het hulle tot Hom gesê, Ons is nie uit hoerery gebore nie; ons het een Vader, selfs God.

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me.

Jesus het tot hulle gesê, As God julle Vader was, sou julle My liefhê: want ek is van God uitgegaan en gekom; en ek is ook nie van Myself gekom nie, maar Hy het My gestuur.

Why do ye not understand my speech? [even] because ye cannot hear my word.

Waarom verstaan julle nie my spraak nie? selfs omdat julle my woord nie kan hoor nie.

Ye are of [your] father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it.

Julle is van julle vader die duiwel, en die begeertes van julle vader wil julle doen. Hy was ‚'n moordenaar van die begin af, en het nie in die waarheid gestaan nie, omdat daar geen waarheid in hom is nie. Wanneer hy ‚'n leuen spreek, spreek hy van sy eie: want hy is ‚'n leuenaar, en die vader daarvan.

And because I tell [you] the truth, ye believe me not.

En omdat ek die waarheid sê, glo julle My nie.

Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me?

Wie van julle oortuig My van sonde? En as ek die waarheid sê, waarom glo julle My nie?

He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear [them] not, because ye are not of God.

Hy wat uit God is, hoor God se woorde: julle hoor hulle daarom nie, omdat julle nie uit God is nie.

Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?

Toe het die Jode geantwoord en tot Hom gesê, Sê ons nie reg dat U ’n Samaritaan is, en ’n duiwel het nie?

Jesus answered, I have not a devil; but I honour my Father, and ye do dishonour me.

Jesus het geantwoord, Ek het geen duiwel nie; maar ek eer my Vader, en julle onteer My.

And I seek not mine own glory: there is one that seeketh and judgeth.

En ek soek nie my eie eer nie: daar is een wat soek en oordeel.

Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, As ’n mens my woord bewaar, sal hy die dood tot in ewigheid nooit sien nie.

Then said the Jews unto him, Now we know that thou hast a devil. Abraham is dead, and the prophets; and thou sayest, If a man keep my saying, he shall never taste of death.

Toe het die Jode tot Hom gesê, Nou weet ons dat U ’n duiwel het. Abraham is dood, en die profete; en U sê, As ’n mens my woord bewaar, sal hy die dood tot in ewigheid nooit proe nie.

Art thou greater than our father Abraham, which is dead? and the prophets are dead: whom makest thou thyself?

Is U groter as ons vader Abraham, wat dood is? en die profete is dood: wie maak U Uself?

Jesus answered, If I honour myself, my honour is nothing: it is my Father that honoureth me; of whom ye say, that he is your God:

Jesus het geantwoord, As ek Myself eer, is my eer niks: dit is my Vader wat My eer; van wie julle sê, dat Hy julle God is:

Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.

Tog het julle Hom nie geken nie; maar ek ken Hom: en as ek sou sê, ek ken Hom nie, sou ek ’n leuenaar wees soos julle: maar ek ken Hom, en bewaar sy woord.

Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw [it], and was glad.

Julle vader Abraham het gejuig om my dag te sien: en hy het dit gesien, en was bly.

Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham?

Toe het die Jode tot Hom gesê, Jy is nog nie vyftig jaar oud nie, en het U Abraham gesien?

Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.

Jesus het tot hulle gesê, Voorwaar, voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Voordat Abraham was, is ek.

Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

Toe het hulle klippe opgetel om op Hom te gooi: maar Jesus het Hom verberg, en uit die tempel gegaan, en so deur die midde van hulle gegaan, en so verbyggaan.
