And as [Jesus] passed by, he saw a man which was blind from [his] birth.

En soos Jesus verbygaan, het Hy ‚'n man gesien wat blind was van sy geboorte af.

And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

En sy dissipels het Hom gevra, sê, Meester, wie het gesondig, hierdie man, of sy ouers, dat hy blind gebore is?

Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Jesus het geantwoord, Hierdie man het nie gesondig nie, en ook nie sy ouers nie: maar dat die werke van God in hom geopenbaar sou word.

4

I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work.

Ek moet die werke werk van Hom wat My gestuur het, terwyl dit dag is: die nag kom, wanneer niemand kan werk nie.

5

As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

Solank ek in die wêreld is, is ek die lig van die wêreld.

When he had thus spoken, he spat on the ground, and made clay of the spittle, and he anointed the eyes of the blind man with the clay,

Toe Hy dit gesê het, het Hy op die grond gespuug, en klei van die speeksel gemaak, en die klei op die oë van die blinde man gesmeer,

7

And said unto him, Go, wash in the pool of Siloam, (which is by interpretation, Sent.) He went his way therefore, and washed, and came seeing.

En tot hom gesê, Gaan, was jou in die bad van Siloam, (wat vertaal is, Gestuur.) Hy het daarom gegaan, en hom gewas, en gekom, en sienende.

The neighbours therefore, and they which before had seen him that he was blind, said, Is not this he that sat and begged?

Die bure daarom, en dié wat hom tevore gesien het dat hy blind was, het gesê, Is hierdie nie hy wat gesit en bedel het nie?

9

Some said, This is he: others [said], He is like him: [but] he said, I am [he].

Sommige het gesê, Dit is hy: andere het gesê, Hy is soos hy: maar hy het gesê, Ek is hy.

10

Therefore said they unto him, How were thine eyes opened?

Daarom het hulle tot hom gesê, Hoe is jou oë oopgemaak?

11

He answered and said, A man that is called Jesus made clay, and anointed mine eyes, and said unto me, Go to the pool of Siloam, and wash: and I went and washed, and I received sight.

Hy het geantwoord en gesê, ’n Man wat Jesus genoem word het klei gemaak, en my oë gesmeer, en tot my gesê, Gaan na die bad van Siloam, en was jou: en ek het gegaan en my gewas, en ek het die gesig ontvang.

Then said they unto him, Where is he? He said, I know not.

Toe het hulle tot hom gesê, Waar is Hy? Hy het gesê, Ek weet nie.

13

They brought to the Pharisees him that aforetime was blind.

Hulle het die man wat tevore blind was, na die Fariseërs gebring.

14

And it was the sabbath day when Jesus made the clay, and opened his eyes.

En dit was die sabbatdag toe Jesus die klei gemaak het, en sy oë oopgemaak het.

15

Then again the Pharisees also asked him how he had received his sight. He said unto them, He put clay upon mine eyes, and I washed, and do see.

Toe het die Fariseërs ook by hom gevra hoe hy die gesig ontvang het. Hy het tot hulle gesê, Hy het klei op my oë gesmeer, en ek het my gewas, en ek sien.

Therefore said some of the Pharisees, This man is not of God, because he keepeth not the sabbath day. Others said, How can a man that is a sinner do such miracles? And there was a division among them.

Daarom het sommige van die Fariseërs gesê, Hierdie man is nie van God nie, omdat Hy die sabbat nie hou nie. Andere het gesê, Hoe kan ’n mens wat ’n sondaar is sulke wonderwerke doen? En daar was ’n verdeeldheid onder hulle.

They say unto the blind man again, What sayest thou of him, that he hath opened thine eyes? He said, He is a prophet.

Hulle sê tot die blinde man weer, Wat sê jy van Hom, dat Hy jou oë oopgemaak het? Hy het gesê, Hy is ’n profeet.

18

But the Jews did not believe concerning him, that he had been blind, and received his sight, until they called the parents of him that had received his sight.

Maar die Jode het nie geglo aangaande hom, dat hy blind was, en die gesig ontvang het nie, totdat hulle die ouers geroep het van hom wat die gesig ontvang het.

19

And they asked them, saying, Is this your son, who ye say was born blind? how then doth he now see?

En hulle het hulle gevra, sê, Is hierdie julle seun, van wie julle sê dat hy blind gebore is? hoe sien hy dan nou?

20

His parents answered them and said, We know that this is our son, and that he was born blind:

Sy ouers het hulle geantwoord en gesê, Ons weet dat hierdie ons seun is, en dat hy blind gebore is:

21

But by what means he now seeth, we know not; or who hath opened his eyes, we know not: he is of age; ask him: he shall speak for himself.

Maar hoe hy nou sien, weet ons nie; of wie sy oë oopgemaak het, weet ons nie: hy is mondig; vra hom: hy sal vir homself spreek.

22

These [words] spake his parents, because they feared the Jews: for the Jews had agreed already, that if any man did confess that he was Christ, he should be put out of the synagogue.

Hierdie woorde het sy ouers gespreek, omdat hulle die Jode gevrees het: want die Jode het alreeds ooreengekom dat, as iemand Hom as Christus sou bely, hy uit die sinagoge geban sou word.

Therefore said his parents, He is of age; ask him.

Daarom het sy ouers gesê, Hy is mondig; vra hom.

24

Then again called they the man that was blind, and said unto him, Give God the praise: we know that this man is a sinner.

Toe het hulle die man wat blind was die tweede maal geroep, en tot hom gesê, Gee God die eer: ons weet dat hierdie man ’n sondaar is.

25

He answered and said, Whether he be a sinner [or no], I know not: one thing I know, that, whereas I was blind, now I see.

Hy het geantwoord en gesê, Of Hy ’n sondaar is, weet ek nie: een ding weet ek, dat, terwyl ek blind was, ek nou sien.

26

Then said they to him again, What did he to thee? how opened he thine eyes?

Toe het hulle tot hom gesê weer, Wat het Hy aan jou gedoen? hoe het Hy jou oë oopgemaak?

27

He answered them, I have told you already, and ye did not hear: wherefore would ye hear [it] again? will ye also be his disciples?

Hy het hulle geantwoord, Ek het dit julle alreeds gesê, en julle het nie gehoor nie: waarom wil julle dit weer hoor? wil julle ook sy dissipels word?

28

Then they reviled him, and said, Thou art his disciple; but we are Moses’ disciples.

Toe het hulle hom uitgeskel, en gesê, Jy is sy dissipel; maar ons is Moses se dissipels.

29

We know that God spake unto Moses: [as for] this [fellow], we know not from whence he is.

Ons weet dat God met Moses gespreek het: maar van hierdie, ons weet nie vanwaar Hy is nie.

30

The man answered and said unto them, Why herein is a marvellous thing, that ye know not from whence he is, and [yet] he hath opened mine eyes.

Die man het geantwoord en tot hulle gesê, Hierin is ’n wonderlike ding, dat julle nie weet vanwaar Hy is nie, en tog het Hy my oë oopgemaak.

31

Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

Nou weet ons dat God nie sondaars hoor nie: maar as iemand ‚'n aanbidder van God is, en sy wil doen, hom hoor Hy.

32

Since the world began was it not heard that any man opened the eyes of one that was born blind.

Van die begin van die wêreld af is dit nie gehoor dat iemand die oë van een wat blind gebore is, oopgemaak het nie.

33

If this man were not of God, he could do nothing.

As hierdie man nie van God was nie, kon Hy niks doen nie.

34

They answered and said unto him, Thou wast altogether born in sins, and dost thou teach us? And they cast him out.

Hulle het geantwoord en tot hom gesê, Jy is geheel en al in sondes gebore, en leer jy ons? En hulle het hom uitgewerp.

35

Jesus heard that they had cast him out; and when he had found him, he said unto him, Dost thou believe on the Son of God?

Jesus het gehoor dat hulle hom uitgewerp het; en toe Hy hom vind, het Hy tot hom gesê, Glo jy in die Seun van God?

36

He answered and said, Who is he, Lord, that I might believe on him?

Hy het geantwoord en gesê, Wie is Hy, Here, dat ek in Hom mag glo?

37

And Jesus said unto him, Thou hast both seen him, and it is he that talketh with thee.

En Jesus het tot hom gesê, Jy het Hom gesien, en dit is Hy wat met jou spreek.

38

And he said, Lord, I believe. And he worshipped him.

En hy het gesê, Here, ek glo. En hy het Hom aanbid.

39

And Jesus said, For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind.

En Jesus het gesê, Tot oordeel is ek in hierdie wêreld gekom, dat dié wat nie sien nie, mag sien; en dat dié wat sien, blind mag word.

40

And [some] of the Pharisees which were with him heard these words, and said unto him, Are we blind also?

En sommige van die Fariseërs wat by Hom was, het hierdie dinge gehoor, en tot Hom gesê, Is ons dan ook blind?

41

Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth.

Jesus het tot hulle gesê, As julle blind was, sou julle geen sonde gehad het nie: maar nou sê julle, Ons sien; daarom bly julle sonde.
