Then Joshua called the Reubenites, and the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh,

Toe het Josua die Rubeniete, en die Gadiete, en die halfstam van Manasse geroep,

And said unto them, Ye have kept all that Moses the servant of the LORD commanded you, and have obeyed my voice in all that I commanded you:

En tot hulle gesê, Julle het alles onderhou wat Moses die dienaar van die HERE julle beveel het, en julle het na my stem geluister in alles wat ek julle beveel het:

Ye have not left your brethren these many days unto this day, but have kept the charge of the commandment of the LORD your God.

Julle het julle broers nie hierdie baie dae lank tot vandag toe verlaat nie, maar die bevel van die HERE julle God onderhou.

And now the LORD your God hath given rest unto your brethren, as he promised them: therefore now return ye, and get you unto your tents, [and] unto the land of your possession, which Moses the servant of the LORD gave you on the other side Jordan.

En nou het die HERE julle God rus gegee aan julle broers, soos Hy hulle beloof het: keer dan nou om, en gaan na julle tente, na die land van julle besitting, wat Moses die dienaar van die HERE julle gegee het aan die ander kant van die Jordaan.

But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul.

Net neem sorgvuldig ag om die gebod en die wet te doen, wat Moses die dienaar van die HERE julle beveel het, om die HERE julle God lief te hê, en in al sy weë te wandel, en sy gebooie te onderhou, en aan Hom vas te hou, en Hom te dien met julle hele hart en met julle hele siel.

So Joshua blessed them, and sent them away: and they went unto their tents.

So het Josua hulle dan geseën, en hulle weggestuur: en hulle het na hulle tente gegaan.

Now to the [one] half of the tribe of Manasseh Moses had given [possession] in Bashan: but unto the [other] half thereof gave Joshua among their brethren on this side Jordan westward. And when Joshua sent them away also unto their tents, then he blessed them,

Nou het Moses aan die een helfte van die stam van Manasse besitting in Basan gegee: maar aan die ander helfte daarvan het Josua besitting gegee onder hulle broers aan hierdie kant van die Jordaan weswaarts. En toe Josua hulle weggestuur het na hulle tente, het hy hulle ook geseën,

And he spake unto them, saying, Return with much riches unto your tents, and with very much cattle, with silver, and with gold, and with brass, and with iron, and with very much raiment: divide the spoil of your enemies with your brethren.

En tot hulle gespreek, en gesê, Keer terug met baie rykdomme na julle tente, en met baie vee, met silwer, en met goud, en met koper, en met yster, en met baie klere: verdeel die prooi van julle vyande met julle broers.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh returned, and departed from the children of Israel out of Shiloh, which [is] in the land of Canaan, to go unto the country of Gilead, to the land of their possession, whereof they were possessed, according to the word of the LORD by the hand of Moses.

En die kinders van Ruben en die kinders van Gad en die halfstam van Manasse het teruggekeer, en van die kinders van Israel by Silo, wat in die land Kanaän is, weggegaan, om na die land Gílead te gaan, na die land van hulle besitting, wat hulle volgens die woord van die HERE deur die hand van Moses in besit geneem het.

And when they came unto the borders of Jordan, that [are] in the land of Canaan, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh built there an altar by Jordan, a great altar to see to.

En toe hulle by die grense van die Jordaan gekom het, wat in die land Kanaän is, het die kinders van Ruben en die kinders van Gad en die halfstam van Manasse daar by die Jordaan ’n altaar gebou, ’n groot altaar om te sien.

And the children of Israel heard say, Behold, the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh have built an altar over against the land of Canaan, in the borders of Jordan, at the passage of the children of Israel.

En die kinders van Israel het gehoor sê, Kyk, die kinders van Ruben en die kinders van Gad en die halfstam van Manasse het ’n altaar gebou teenoor die land Kanaän, in die grense van die Jordaan, aan die oorkant van die kinders van Israel.

And when the children of Israel heard [of it], the whole congregation of the children of Israel gathered themselves together at Shiloh, to go up to war against them.

En toe die kinders van Israel dit gehoor het, het die hele vergadering van die kinders van Israel bymekaargekom by Silo, om teen hulle op te trek tot die oorlog.

And the children of Israel sent unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, into the land of Gilead, Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest,

En die kinders van Israel het Pínehas die seun van Eleásar die priester na die kinders van Ruben, en na die kinders van Gad, en na die halfstam van Manasse, in die land Gílead gestuur,

And with him ten princes, of each chief house a prince throughout all the tribes of Israel; and each one [was] an head of the house of their fathers among the thousands of Israel.

En met hom tien vorste, een vorste uit elke vaderhuis uit al die stamme van Israel; en elkeen was ‚'n hoof van die huis van hulle vaders onder die duisende van Israel.

And they came unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the half tribe of Manasseh, unto the land of Gilead, and they spake with them, saying,

En hulle het by die kinders van Ruben, en by die kinders van Gad, en by die halfstam van Manasse, in die land Gílead gekom, en met hulle gespreek, en gesê,

Thus saith the whole congregation of the LORD, What trespass [is] this that ye have committed against the God of Israel, to turn away this day from following the LORD, in that ye have builded you an altar, that ye might rebel this day against the LORD?

So sê die hele vergadering van die HERE, Wat oortreding is dit wat julle teen die God van Israel begaan het, om vandag van die HERE af te wend, deur vir julle ’n altaar te bou, dat julle vandag teen die HERE in opstand kom?

[Is] the iniquity of Peor too little for us, from which we are not cleansed until this day, although there was a plague in the congregation of the LORD,

Is die ongeregtigheid van Peor te min vir ons, waarvan ons tot vandag toe nie gereinig is nie, al was daar ‚'n plaag in die vergadering van die HERE,

But that ye must turn away this day from following the LORD? and it will be, [seeing] ye rebel to day against the LORD, that to morrow he will be wroth with the whole congregation of Israel.

Maar dat julle vandag van die HERE moet afwend? en dit sal wees, aangesien julle vandag in opstand kom teen die HERE, dat môre Hy toornig sal wees op die hele vergadering van Israel.

Notwithstanding, if the land of your possession [be] unclean, [then] pass ye over unto the land of the possession of the LORD, wherein the LORD’S tabernacle dwelleth, and take possession among us: but rebel not against the LORD, nor rebel against us, in building you an altar beside the altar of the LORD our God.

Nogtans, as die land van julle besitting onrein is, trek dan oor in die land van die besitting van die HERE, waarin die tabernakel van die HERE woon, en neem besitting onder ons: maar moenie in opstand kom teen die HERE nie, of moenie teen ons in opstand kom nie, deur vir julle ‚'n altaar te bou behalwe die altaar van die HERE onse God.

Did not Achan the son of Zerah commit a trespass in the accursed thing, and wrath fell on all the congregation of Israel? and that man perished not alone in his iniquity.

Het nie Agan die seun van Serag ‚'n oortreding begaan in die ban-ding nie, en daar was toorn op die hele vergadering van Israel? en daardie man het nie alleen in sy ongeregtigheid gesterwe nie.

Then the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the half tribe of Manasseh answered, and said unto the heads of the thousands of Israel,

Toe het die kinders van Ruben en die kinders van Gad en die halfstam van Manasse geantwoord, en tot die hoofde van die duisende van Israel gesê,

The LORD God of gods, the LORD God of gods, he knoweth, and Israel he shall know; if [it be] in rebellion, or if in transgression against the LORD, (save us not this day,)

Die HERE God van gode, die HERE God van gode, Hy weet, en Israel moet dit weet; as dit in opstand is, of as dit in oortreding teen die HERE is, (moenie ons vandag red nie,)

That we have built us an altar to turn from following the LORD, or if to offer thereon burnt offering or meat offering, or if to offer peace offerings thereon, let the LORD himself require [it];

Dat ons vir ons ‚'n altaar gebou het om van die HERE af te wend, of as om daarop brandoffer of spysoffer te offer, of as om daarop dankoffers te offer, laat die HERE self dit eis;

And if we have not [rather] done it for fear of [this] thing, saying, In time to come your children might speak unto our children, saying, What have ye to do with the LORD God of Israel?

En as ons dit nie eerder uit vrees vir hierdie ding gedoen het nie, en gesê het, In die toekomende tyd mag julle kinders tot ons kinders sê, Wat het julle met die HERE, die God van Israel, te doen?

For the LORD hath made Jordan a border between us and you, ye children of Reuben and children of Gad; ye have no part in the LORD: so shall your children make our children cease from fearing the LORD.

Want die HERE het die Jordaan ‚'n grens gemaak tussen ons en julle, julle kinders van Ruben en kinders van Gad; julle het geen deel in die HERE nie: so kan julle kinders ons kinders laat ophou om die HERE te vrees.

Therefore we said, Let us now prepare to build us an altar, not for burnt offering, nor for sacrifice:

Daarom het ons gesê, Laat ons nou vir ons berei om ’n altaar te bou, nie vir brandoffer, of vir slagoffer nie:

But [that] it [may be] a witness between us, and you, and our generations after us, that we might do the service of the LORD before him with our burnt offerings, and with our sacrifices, and with our peace offerings; that your children may not say to our children in time to come, Ye have no part in the LORD.

Maar dat dit ’n getuie mag wees tussen ons en julle, en tussen ons geslagte na ons, dat ons die diens van die HERE mag doen voor Hom met ons brandoffers, en met ons slagoffers, en met ons dankoffers; dat julle kinders nie in die toekomende tyd tot ons kinders mag sê, Julle het geen deel in die HERE nie.

Therefore said we, that it shall be, when they should [so] say to us or to our generations in time to come, that we may say [again], Behold the pattern of the altar of the LORD, which our fathers made, not for burnt offerings, nor for sacrifices; but it [is] a witness between us and you.

Daarom het ons gesê, dat dit sal wees, wanneer hulle so tot ons of tot ons geslagte in die toekomende tyd sê, dat ons mag sê, Kyk die patroon van die altaar van die HERE, wat ons vaders gemaak het, nie vir brandoffers, of vir slagoffers nie; maar dit is ’n getuie tussen ons en julle.

God forbid that we should rebel against the LORD, and turn this day from following the LORD, to build an altar for burnt offerings, for meat offerings, or for sacrifices, beside the altar of the LORD our God that [is] before his tabernacle.

Mag dit ver van ons wees dat ons in opstand kom teen die HERE, en vandag van die HERE afwend, om ‚'n altaar te bou vir brandoffers, vir spysoffers, of vir slagoffers, behalwe die altaar van die HERE onse God wat voor sy tabernakel is.

And when Phinehas the priest, and the princes of the congregation and heads of the thousands of Israel which [were] with him, heard the words that the children of Reuben and the children of Gad and the children of Manasseh spake, it pleased them.

En toe Pínehas die priester, en die vorste van die vergadering, en die hoofde van die duisende van Israel wat by hom was, die woorde gehoor het wat die kinders van Ruben en die kinders van Gad en die kinders van Manasse gespreek het, het dit hulle behaag.

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest said unto the children of Reuben, and to the children of Gad, and to the children of Manasseh, This day we perceive that the LORD [is] among us, because ye have not committed this trespass against the LORD: now ye have delivered the children of Israel out of the hand of the LORD.

En Pínehas die seun van Eleásar die priester het tot die kinders van Ruben, en tot die kinders van Gad, en tot die kinders van Manasse gesê, Vandag verstaan ons dat die HERE onder ons is, omdat julle hierdie oortreding nie teen die HERE begaan het nie: nou het julle die kinders van Israel uit die hand van die HERE gered.

And Phinehas the son of Eleazar the priest, and the princes, returned from the children of Reuben, and from the children of Gad, out of the land of Gilead, unto the land of Canaan, to the children of Israel, and brought them word again.

En Pínehas die seun van Eleásar die priester, en die vorste, het van die kinders van Ruben, en van die kinders van Gad, uit die land Gílead, na die land Kanaän, na die kinders van Israel teruggekeer, en hulle antwoord gebring.

And the thing pleased the children of Israel; and the children of Israel blessed God, and did not intend to go up against them in battle, to destroy the land wherein the children of Reuben and Gad dwelt.

En die saak het die kinders van Israel behaag; en die kinders van Israel het God geseën, en het nie gedink om teen hulle op te trek tot die oorlog, om die land te vernietig waarin die kinders van Ruben en Gad gewoon het nie.

And the children of Reuben and the children of Gad called the altar [Ed]: for it [shall be] a witness between us that the LORD [is] God.

En die kinders van Ruben en die kinders van Gad het die altaar Ed genoem: want dit moet ‚'n getuie wees tussen ons dat die HERE God is.
