And Joshua gathered all the tribes of Israel to Shechem, and called for the elders of Israel, and for their heads, and for their judges, and for their officers; and they presented themselves before God.
En Josua het al die stamme van Israel by Sigem bymekaargemaak, en die ouderlinge van Israel, en hulle hoofde, en hulle regters, en hulle amptenare geroep; en hulle het voor God gestaan.

And Joshua said unto all the people, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Your fathers dwelt on the other side of the flood in old time, [even] Terah, the father of Abraham, and the father of Nachor: and they served other gods.
En Josua het tot die hele volk gesê, So sê die HERE, die God van Israel, Julle vaders het vroeër oorkant die rivier gewoon, selfs Terag, die vader van Abraham, en die vader van Nahor: en hulle het ander gode gedien.

And I took your father Abraham from the other side of the flood, and led him throughout all the land of Canaan, and multiplied his seed, and gave him Isaac.
En ek het julle vader Abraham van die ander kant van die rivier geneem, en hom deur die hele land Kanaän gelei, en sy saad vermenigvuldig, en aan hom Isak gegee.

And I gave unto Isaac Jacob and Esau: and I gave unto Esau mount Seir, to possess it; but Jacob and his children went down into Egypt.
En aan Isak het ek Jakob en Esau gegee: en aan Esau het ek die berg Seïr gegee om te besit; maar Jakob en sy kinders het afgegaan na Egipte.

I sent Moses also and Aaron, and I plagued Egypt, according to that which I did among them: and afterward I brought you out.
Ek het ook Moses en Aäron gestuur, en ek het Egipte geteister, volgens dit wat ek daaronder gedoen het: en daarna het ek julle uitgebring.

And I brought your fathers out of Egypt: and ye came unto the sea; and the Egyptians pursued after your fathers with chariots and horsemen unto the Red sea.
En ek het julle vaders uit Egipte uitgebring: en julle het by die see gekom; en die Egiptenaars het julle vaders agtervolg met strydwaens en ruiters tot by die Skelfsee.

And when they cried unto the LORD, he put darkness between you and the Egyptians, and brought the sea upon them, and covered them; and your eyes have seen what I have done in Egypt: and ye dwelt in the wilderness a long season.
En toe hulle tot die HERE geroep het, het Hy duisternis tussen julle en die Egiptenaars gesit, en die see oor hulle gebring, en hulle bedek; en julle oë het gesien wat ek in Egipte gedoen het: en julle het baie dae in die wildernis gewoon.

And I brought you into the land of the Amorites, which dwelt on the other side Jordan; and they fought with you: and I gave them into your hand, that ye might possess their land; and I destroyed them from before you.
En ek het julle in die land van die Amoriete gebring, wat aan die ander kant van die Jordaan gewoon het; en hulle het teen julle geveg: en ek het hulle in julle hand gegee, dat julle hulle land mag besit; en ek het hulle voor julle uit vernietig.

Then Balak the son of Zippor, king of Moab, arose and warred against Israel, and sent and called Balaam the son of Beor to curse you:
Toe het Balak die seun van Sippor, koning van Moab, opgestaan en teen Israel geveg, en gestuur en Bileam die seun van Beor geroep om julle te vloek:
10
But I would not hearken unto Balaam; therefore he blessed you still: so I delivered you out of his hand.
Maar ek wou nie na Bileam luister nie; daarom het hy julle sekerlik geseën: so het ek julle uit sy hand gered.

And ye went over Jordan, and came unto Jericho: and the men of Jericho fought against you, the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Girgashites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites; and I delivered them into your hand.
En julle het oor die Jordaan getrek, en by Jérigo gekom: en die manne van Jérigo het teen julle geveg, die Amoriete, en die Feresiete, en die Kanaäniete, en die Hetiete, en die Girgasiete, die Hewiete, en die Jebusiete; en ek het hulle in julle hand gegee.

And I sent the hornet before you, which drave them out from before you, [even] the two kings of the Amorites; [but] not with thy sword, nor with thy bow.
En ek het die horrel voor julle uit gestuur, wat hulle voor julle uit verdrywe het, selfs die twee konings van die Amoriete; maar nie met jou swaard, of met jou boog nie.

And I have given you a land for which ye did not labour, and cities which ye built not, and ye dwell in them; of the vineyards and oliveyards which ye planted not do ye eat.
En ek het julle ‚'n land gegee waarvoor julle nie gearbei het nie, en stede wat julle nie gebou het nie, en julle woon daarin; van die wingerde en olyfbome wat julle nie geplant het nie, eet julle.

Now therefore fear the LORD, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the LORD.
Nou dan, vrees die HERE, en dien Hom in opregtheid en in waarheid: en sit die gode weg wat julle vaders aan die ander kant van die rivier, en in Egipte gedien het; en dien die HERE.

And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that [were] on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
En as dit sleg in julle oë is om die HERE te dien, kies julle vandag wie julle sal dien; of die gode wat julle vaders gedien het wat aan die ander kant van die rivier was, of die gode van die Amoriete, in wie se land julle woon: maar wat my en my huis betref, ons sal die HERE dien.

And the people answered and said, God forbid that we should forsake the LORD, to serve other gods;
En die volk het geantwoord en gesê, Mag dit ver van ons wees om die HERE te verlaat, om ander gode te dien;
17
For the LORD our God, he [it is] that brought us up and our fathers out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage, and which did those great signs in our sight, and preserved us in all the way wherein we went, and among all the people through whom we passed:
Want die HERE onse God is Hy wat ons en ons vaders uit die land Egipte, uit die huis van diensbaarheid, opgebring het, en wat daardie groot tekens voor ons oë gedoen het, en ons bewaar het in die hele pad waarin ons gegaan het, en onder al die volke waardeur ons getrek het:

And the LORD drave out from before us all the people, even the Amorites which dwelt in the land: [therefore] will we also serve the LORD; for he [is] our God.
En die HERE het al die volke, en die Amoriete wat in die land gewoon het, voor ons aangesig uit verdrywe: daarom sal ons ook die HERE dien; want Hy is onse God.

And Joshua said unto the people, Ye cannot serve the LORD: for he [is] an holy God; he [is] a jealous God; he will not forgive your transgressions nor your sins.
En Josua het tot die volk gesê, Julle kan die HERE nie dien nie: want Hy is ’n heilige God; Hy is ’n jaloerse God; Hy sal julle oortredinge en julle sondes nie vergewe nie.

If ye forsake the LORD, and serve strange gods, then he will turn and do you hurt, and consume you, after that he hath done you good.
As julle die HERE verlaat, en vreemde gode dien, dan sal Hy omkeer en julle leed aandoen, en julle verteer, nadat Hy julle goed gedoen het.
21
And the people said unto Joshua, Nay; but we will serve the LORD.
En die volk het tot Josua gesê, Nee; maar ons sal die HERE dien.
22
And Joshua said unto the people, Ye [are] witnesses against yourselves that ye have chosen you the LORD, to serve him. And they said, [We are] witnesses.
En Josua het tot die volk gesê, Julle is getuies teen julleself dat julle vir julle die HERE gekies het om Hom te dien. En hulle het gesê, Ons is getuies.

Now therefore put away, [said he], the strange gods which [are] among you, and incline your heart unto the LORD God of Israel.
Nou dan, sit die vreemde gode weg wat onder julle is, en neig julle hart tot die HERE, die God van Israel.
24
And the people said unto Joshua, The LORD our God will we serve, and his voice will we obey.
En die volk het tot Josua gesê, Die HERE onse God sal ons dien, en na sy stem sal ons luister.
25
So Joshua made a covenant with the people that day, and set them a statute and an ordinance in Shechem.
So het Josua dan daardie dag ‚'n verbond met die volk gemaak, en vir hulle ‚'n insetting en ‚'n ordinasie in Sigem gestel.

And Joshua wrote these words in the book of the law of God, and took a great stone, and set it up there under an oak, that [was] by the sanctuary of the LORD.
En Josua het hierdie woorde in die boek van die wet van God geskrywe, en ‚'n groot klip geneem, en dit daar opgerig onder ‚'n eikeboom, wat by die heiligdom van die HERE was.

And Joshua said unto all the people, Behold, this stone shall be a witness unto us; for it hath heard all the words of the LORD which he spake unto us: it shall be therefore a witness unto you, lest ye deny your God.
En Josua het tot die hele volk gesê, Kyk, hierdie klip moet ’n getuie wees vir ons; want dit het al die woorde van die HERE gehoor wat Hy tot ons gespreek het: dit moet dus ’n getuie wees vir julle, dat julle julle God nie verloën nie.

So Joshua let the people depart, every man unto his inheritance.
So het Josua dan die volk weggestuur, elkeen na sy erfenis.

And it came to pass after these things, that Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of the LORD, died, [being] an hundred and ten years old.
En dit het gebeur ná hierdie dinge, dat Josua die seun van Nun, die dienaar van die HERE, gesterwe het, honderd en tien jaar oud.
30
And they buried him in the border of his inheritance in Timnathserah, which [is] in mount Ephraim, on the north side of the hill of Gaash.
En hulle het hom begrawe in die grens van sy erfenis in Timnat-Serag, wat in die berg Efraim is, aan die noordekant van die berg Gaäs.

And Israel served the LORD all the days of Joshua, and all the days of the elders that overlived Joshua, and which had known all the works of the LORD, that he had done for Israel.
En Israel het die HERE gedien al die dae van Josua, en al die dae van die ouderlinge wat Josua oorleef het, en wat al die werke van die HERE geken het, wat Hy vir Israel gedoen het.

And the bones of Joseph, which the children of Israel brought up out of Egypt, buried they in Shechem, in a parcel of ground which Jacob bought of the sons of Hamor the father of Shechem for an hundred pieces of silver: and it became the inheritance of the children of Joseph.
En die beendere van Josef, wat die kinders van Israel uit Egipte opgebring het, het hulle in Sigem begrawe, in ‚'n stuk grond wat Jakob gekoop het van die seuns van Hemor die vader van Sigem vir honderd stukkies silwer: en dit het die erfenis van die kinders van Josef geword.

And Eleazar the son of Aaron died; and they buried him in a hill [that pertained to] Phinehas his son, which was given him in mount Ephraim.
En Eleásar die seun van Aäron is gesterwe; en hulle het hom begrawe in ’n heuwel wat aan Pínehas sy seun behoort het, wat aan hom in die berg Efraim gegee is.
