Behold, I will send my messenger, and he shall prepare the way before me: and the Lord, whom ye seek, shall suddenly come to his temple, even the messenger of the covenant, whom ye delight in: behold, he shall come, saith the LORD of hosts.
Kyk, ek sal my boodskapper stuur, en hy sal die weg voor My berei: en die Here, wat julle soek, sal skielik tot sy tempel kom, selfs die boodskapper van die verbond, in wie julle behae het: kyk, hy sal kom, sê die HERE van leërskare.

But who may abide the day of his coming? and who shall stand when he appeareth? for he [is] like a refiner’s fire, and like fullers’ soap:
Maar wie kan die dag van sy koms verdra? en wie sal staan wanneer hy verskyn? want hy is soos ‚'n smelter se vuur, en soos die volle se seep:

And he shall sit [as] a refiner and purifier of silver: and he shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the LORD an offering in righteousness.
En hy sal sit as ‚'n smelter en reiniger van silwer: en hy sal die seuns van Levi reinig, en hulle suiwer soos goud en silwer, dat hulle aan die HERE ‚'n offer in geregtigheid mag aanbied.

Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the LORD, as in the days of old, and as in former years.
Dan sal die offer van Juda en Jérusalem aangenaam wees vir die HERE, soos in die dae van ouds, en soos in vorige jare.

And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in [his] wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger [from his right], and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
En ek sal nader kom tot julle tot oordeel; en ek sal ’n haastige getuie wees teen die towenaars, en teen die egbreuksters, en teen die valse eedafleggers, en teen dié wat die huurling in sy loon, die weduwee, en die wees, verdruk, en die vreemdeling van sy reg afkeer, en My nie vrees nie, sê die HERE van leërskare.

For I [am] the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.
Want ek is die HERE, ek verander nie; daarom is julle, o seuns van Jakob, nie verteer nie.

Even from the days of your fathers ye are gone away from mine ordinances, and have not kept [them]. Return unto me, and I will return unto you, saith the LORD of hosts. But ye said, Wherein shall we return?
Selfs van die dae van julle vaders af het julle van my ordonnanse afgewyk, en dit nie bewaar nie. Keer tot My, en ek sal tot julle keer, sê die HERE van leërskare. Maar julle het gesê, Waarin sal ons terugkeer?

Will a man rob God? Yet ye have robbed me. But ye say, Wherein have we robbed thee? In tithes and offerings.
Sal ’n mens God beroof? Tog het julle My beroof. Maar julle sê, Waarin het ons U beroof? In tiendes en offers.

Ye [are] cursed with a curse: for ye have robbed me, [even] this whole nation.
Julle is met ‚'n vloek vervloek: want julle het My beroof, selfs hierdie hele nasie.
10
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that [there shall] not [be room] enough [to receive it].
Bring julle al die tiendes in die skathuis, dat daar voedsel in my huis mag wees, en beproef My nou hierin, sê die HERE van leërskare, of ek nie vir julle die vensters van die hemel sal oopmaak, en vir julle ’n seën uitstort, dat daar nie genoeg ruimte sal wees om dit te ontvang nie.

And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.
En ek sal die verwoester vir julle ontmoedig, en hy sal die vrugte van julle grond nie vernietig nie; en julle wingerdstok in die veld sal nie sy vrug voor die tyd afwerp nie, sê die HERE van leërskare.

And all nations shall call you blessed: for ye shall be a delightsome land, saith the LORD of hosts.
En al die nasies sal julle geseënd noem: want julle sal ’n behaaglike land wees, sê die HERE van leërskare.

Your words have been stout against me, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, What have we spoken [so much] against thee?
Julle woorde was stout teen My, sê die HERE. Tog sê julle, Wat het ons teen U gespreek?
14
Ye have said, It [is] vain to serve God: and what profit [is it] that we have kept his ordinance, and that we have walked mournfully before the LORD of hosts?
Julle het gesê, Dit is tevergeefs om God te dien: en watter wins is dit dat ons sy ordonnanse bewaar het, en dat ons in swart voor die HERE van leërskare gewandel het?

And now we call the proud happy; yea, they that work wickedness are set up; yea, [they that] tempt God are even delivered.
En nou noem ons die trotses gelukkig; ja, hulle wat goddeloosheid werk is opgerig; ja, hulle wat God versoek is selfs verlos.

Then they that feared the LORD spake often one to another: and the LORD hearkened, and heard [it], and a book of remembrance was written before him for them that feared the LORD, and that thought upon his name.
Toe het hulle wat die HERE gevrees het, elkeen met sy naaste gespreek: en die HERE het dit gelet, en gehoor, en ‚'n gedenkboek is voor Hom geskrywe vir hulle wat die HERE gevrees het, en wat aan sy Naam gedink het.

And they shall be mine, saith the LORD of hosts, in that day when I make up my jewels; and I will spare them, as a man spareth his own son that serveth him.
En hulle sal myne wees, sê die HERE van leërskare, in daardie dag wanneer ek my juwele maak; en ek sal hulle spaar, soos ’n mens sy eie seun spaar wat hom dien.

Then shall ye return, and discern between the righteous and the wicked, between him that serveth God and him that serveth him not.
Toe sal julle terugkeer, en onderskei tussen die regverdige en die goddelose, tussen hom wat God dien en hom wat Hom nie dien nie.
