And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples,

En dit het gebeur, toe Jesus al hierdie woorde voleindig het, dat Hy tot sy dissipels gesê het,

Ye know that after two days is [the feast of] the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

Julle weet dat oor twee dae die pasga is, en die Seun van die mens word oorgelewer om gekruisig te word.

Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

Toe het die owerpriesters, en die skrifgeleerdes, en die ouderlinge van die volk bymekaargekom in die paleis van die hoëpriester, wat Kajafas genoem is,

And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill [him].

En raad gehou dat hulle Jesus met listigheid mag gryp, en doodmaak.

But they said, Not on the feast [day], lest there be an uproar among the people.

Maar hulle het gesê, Nie op die fees nie, anders mag daar ’n oproer onder die volk wees.

Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

Nou toe Jesus in Betánië was, in die huis van Simon die melaatse,

There came unto him a woman having an alabaster box of very precious ointment, and poured it on his head, as he sat [at meat].

Het daar ‚'n vrou by Hom gekom met ‚'n albasterfles van baie kosbare salf, en dit op sy hoof uitgegiet soos Hy by die tafel sit.

But when his disciples saw [it], they had indignation, saying, To what purpose [is] this waste?

Maar toe sy dissipels dit sien, was hulle verontwaardig, sê, Waartoe hierdie vermorsing?

For this ointment might have been sold for much, and given to the poor.

Want hierdie salf kon vir baie verkoop word, en aan die armes gegee word.

When Jesus understood [it], he said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she hath wrought a good work upon me.

Toe Jesus dit verstaan, het Hy tot hulle gesê, Waarom benoud maak julle die vrou? want sy het ’n goeie werk aan My gedoen.

For ye have the poor always with you; but me ye have not always.

Want julle het die armes altyd by julle; maar My het julle nie altyd nie.

For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did [it] for my burial.

Want deurdat sy hierdie salf op my liggaam uitgegooi het, het sy dit gedoen tot my begrafnis.

Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, [there] shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.

Voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Waar ook al hierdie evangelie in die hele wêreld verkondig word, sal ook dit wat hierdie vrou gedoen het, tot haar gedagtenis vertel word.

Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,

Toe het een van die twaalf, genaamd Judas Iskáriot, na die owerpriesters gegaan,

And said [unto them], What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

En gesê, Wat wil julle my gee, en ek sal Hom aan julle oorgee? En hulle het met hom vir dertig silwerstukke ooreengekom.

And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

En van toe af het hy geleentheid gesoek om Hom oor te gee.

Now the first [day] of the [feast of] unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

Nou op die eerste dag van die fees van die ongesuurde brode het die dissipels by Jesus gekom, sê, Waar wil U hê dat ons vir U die pasga moet berei om te eet?

And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

En Hy het gesê, Gaan in die stad na so ’n man, en sê tot hom, Die Meester sê, My tyd is naby; ek sal die pasga by jou hou met my dissipels.

And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover.

En die dissipels het gedoen soos Jesus hulle beveel het; en hulle het die pasga berei.

Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve.

Nou toe die aand gekom het, het Hy by die tafel gesit met die twaalf.

And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

En terwyl hulle eet, het Hy gesê, Voorwaar sê ek vir julle, Dat een van julle My sal verraai.

And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

En hulle was uitermate bedroef, en het elkeen van hulle begin sê tot Hom, Here, is dit ek?

And he answered and said, He that dippeth [his] hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

En Hy het geantwoord en gesê, Hy wat sy hand saam met My in die skottel doop, dieselfde sal My verraai.

The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.

Die Seun van die mens gaan wel soos van Hom geskrywe is: maar wee daardie man deur wie die Seun van die mens verraai word! dit was goed vir daardie man as hy nie gebore was nie.

Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

Toe het Judas, wat Hom verraai het, geantwoord en gesê, Meester, is dit ek? Hy het tot hom gesê, Jy het dit gesê.

And as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and blessed [it], and brake [it], and gave [it] to the disciples, and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

En terwyl hulle eet, het Jesus brood geneem, en geseën dit, en dit gebreek, en aan die dissipels gegee, en gesê, Neem, eet; dit is my liggaam.

And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and gave [it] to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

En Hy het die beker geneem, en dank gesê, en dit aan hulle gegee, sê, Drink julle almal daarvan;

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

Want dit is my bloed van die nuwe testament, wat vir baie uitgestort word tot vergifnis van sondes.

But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

Maar ek sê vir julle, Ek sal van nou af nie van hierdie vrug van die wingerdstok drink nie, totdat daardie dag wanneer ek dit nuut met julle drink in my Vader se koninkryk.

And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

En toe hulle ‚'n lofsang gesing het, het hulle uitgegaan na die Olyfberg.

Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

Toe het Jesus tot hulle gesê, Julle almal sal in hierdie nag aan My gestuit word: want daar is geskrywe, Ek sal die herder slaan, en die skape van die kudde sal verstrooi word.

But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

Maar nadat ek opgewek is, sal ek voor julle uitgaan na Galilea.

Peter answered and said unto him, Though all [men] shall be offended because of thee, [yet] will I never be offended.

Petrus het geantwoord en tot Hom gesê, Alhoewel almal aan U gestuit word, sal ek nooit gestuit word nie.

Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice.

Jesus het tot hom gesê, Voorwaar sê ek vir jou, Dat in hierdie nag, voordat die haan kraai, jy My drie maal sal verloën.

Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

Petrus het tot Hom gesê, Al moet ek saam met U sterwe, sal ek U geensins verloën nie. Net so het al die dissipels ook gesê.

Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

Toe het Jesus met hulle gekom op ’n plek genaamd Getsémané, en tot die dissipels gesê, Sit hier, terwyl ek daarheen gaan en bid.

And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

En Hy het Petrus en die twee seuns van Sebedéüs saamgeneem, en begin om bedroef en baie beangs te wees.

Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me.

Toe het Hy tot hulle gesê, My siel is uitermate bedroef, selfs tot die dood toe: bly hier, en waak saam met My.

And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou [wilt].

En Hy het ’n bietjie verder gegaan, en op sy aangesig geval, en gebid, sê, o my Vader, as dit moontlik is, laat hierdie beker by My verbygaan: nietemin nie soos ek wil nie, maar soos U.

And he cometh unto the disciples, and findeth them asleep, and saith unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

En Hy kom by die dissipels, en vind hulle aan die slaap, en sê tot Petrus, Wat, kon julle nie een uur saam met My waak nie?

Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak.

Waak en bid, dat julle nie in versoeking kom nie: die gees is wel gewillig, maar die vlees is swak.

He went away again the second time, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me, except I drink it, thy will be done.

Hy het weer die tweede maal weggegaan, en gebid, sê, o my Vader, as hierdie beker nie by My kan verbygaan nie, tensy ek dit drink, laat u wil geskied.

And he came and found them asleep again: for their eyes were heavy.

En Hy het gekom en hulle weer aan die slaap gevind: want hulle oë was swaar.

And he left them, and went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

En Hy het hulle verlaat, en weer weggegaan, en die derde maal gebid, en dieselfde woorde gesê.

Then cometh he to his disciples, and saith unto them, Sleep on now, and take [your] rest: behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Toe kom Hy by sy dissipels, en sê tot hulle, Slaap nou, en rus: kyk, die uur is naby, en die Seun van die mens word in die hande van sondaars oorgelewer.

Rise, let us be going: behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

Staan op, laat ons gaan: kyk, hy is naby wat My verraai.

And while he yet spake, lo, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the chief priests and elders of the people.

En terwyl Hy nog gespreek het, kyk, Judas, een van die twaalf, het gekom, en met hom ‚'n groot skare met swaarde en stokke, van die owerpriesters en ouderlinge van die volk.

Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast.

Nou hy wat Hom verraai het, het hulle ’n teken gegee, sê, Wie ek ook al soen, dieselfde is Hy: gryp Hom.

And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him.

En dadelik het hy by Jesus gekom, en gesê, Wees gegroet, Meester; en Hom gesoen.

And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him.

En Jesus het tot hom gesê, Vriend, waarvoor is jy gekom? Toe het hulle vorentoe gekom, en hande aan Jesus gelê, en Hom gegryp.

And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out [his] hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear.

En kyk, een van dié wat by Jesus was, het sy hand uitgesteek, en sy swaard getrek, en die dienaar van die hoëpriester geslaan, en sy oor afgekap.

Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.

Toe het Jesus tot hom gesê, Sit jou swaard weer in sy plek: want almal wat die swaard neem, sal deur die swaard omkom.

Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

Dink jy dat ek nie nou my Vader kan bid, en Hy sal My meer as twaalf legioene engele gee nie?

But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be?

Maar hoe sou dan die Skrifte vervul word, dat dit so moet wees?

In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

In dieselfde uur het Jesus tot die skare gesê, Is julle uitgekom soos teen ’n rower met swaarde en stokke om My te gryp? Ek het daagliks by julle gesit, en in die tempel geleer, en julle het My nie gegryp nie.

But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

Maar dit alles is gebeur, dat die Skrifte van die profete vervul mag word. Toe het al die dissipels Hom verlaat, en gevlug.

And they that had laid hold on Jesus led [him] away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

En dié wat Jesus gegryp het, het Hom weggelei na Kajafas die hoëpriester, waar die skrifgeleerdes en die ouderlinge bymekaar was.

But Peter followed him afar off unto the high priest’s palace, and went in, and sat with the servants, to see the end.

Maar Petrus het Hom van ver af gevolg tot by die hoëpriester se paleis, en ingegaan, en by die dienaars gesit, om die einde te sien.

Now the chief priests, and elders, and all the council, sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

Nou het die owerpriesters, en ouderlinge, en die hele raad, valse getuienis teen Jesus gesoek, om Hom dood te maak;

But found none: yea, though many false witnesses came, [yet] found they none. At the last came two false witnesses,

Maar het geen gevind nie: ja, alhoewel baie valse getuies gekom het, tog het hulle geen gevind nie. Laastens het daar twee valse getuies gekom,

And said, This [fellow] said, I am able to destroy the temple of God, and to build it in three days.

En gesê, Hierdie man het gesê, Ek kan die tempel van God afbreek, en dit in drie dae bou.

And the high priest arose, and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing? what [is it which] these witness against thee?

En die hoëpriester het opgestaan, en tot Hom gesê, Antwoord U niks? wat is dit wat hierdie teen U getuig?

But Jesus held his peace. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou be the Christ, the Son of God.

Maar Jesus het stilgebly. En die hoëpriester het geantwoord en tot Hom gesê, Ek besweer U by die lewende God, dat U ons sê of U die Christus is, die Seun van God.

Jesus saith unto him, Thou hast said: nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power, and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Jesus het tot hom gesê, Jy het dit gesê: nietemin sê ek vir julle, Hierna sal julle die Seun van die mens sien sit aan die regterhand van krag, en kom op die wolke van die hemel.

Then the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He hath spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

Toe het die hoëpriester sy klere geskeur, sê, Hy het gelaster; wat het ons nog getuies nodig? kyk, nou het julle sy lastering gehoor.

What think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

Wat dink julle? Hulle het geantwoord en gesê, Hy is die dood skuldig.

Then did they spit in his face, and buffeted him; and others smote [him] with the palms of their hands,

Toe het hulle in sy aangesig gespuug, en Hom met die vuiste geslaan; en andere het Hom met die handpalms geslaan,

Saying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ, Who is he that smote thee?

Sê, Profeteer vir ons, U Christus, Wie is dit wat U geslaan het?

Now Peter sat without in the palace: and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

Nou het Petrus buite in die paleis gesit: en ’n diensmeisie het by hom gekom, sê, Jy was ook by Jesus van Galilea.

But he denied before [them] all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

Maar hy het dit voor hulle almal ontken, sê, Ek weet nie wat jy sê nie.

And when he was gone out into the porch, another [maid] saw him, and said unto them that were there, This [fellow] was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

En toe hy uitgaan na die voorportaal, het ’n ander diensmeisie hom gesien, en tot dié gesê wat daar was, Hierdie man was ook by Jesus van Nasaret.

And again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

En weer het hy dit met ‚'n eed ontken, Ek ken die mens nie.

And after a while came unto [him] they that stood by, and said to Peter, Surely thou also art [one] of them; for thy speech bewrayeth thee.

En ná ’n rukkie het dié wat daar gestaan het, bygekom, en tot Petrus gesê, Sekerlik is jy ook een van hulle; want jou spraak verraai jou.

Then began he to curse and to swear, [saying], I know not the man. And immediately the cock crew.

Toe het hy begin om te vloek en te sweer, sê, Ek ken die mens nie. En dadelik het die haan gekraai.

And Peter remembered the word of Jesus, which said unto him, Before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. And he went out, and wept bitterly.

En Petrus het die woord van Jesus onthou, wat tot hom gesê het, Voordat die haan kraai, sal jy My drie maal verloën. En hy het uitgegaan, en bitterlik gehuil.
