Hear ye now what the LORD saith; Arise, contend thou before the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.
Hoor julle nou wat die HERE sê; Staan op, twis jy voor die berge, en laat die heuwels jou stem hoor.

Hear ye, O mountains, the LORD’S controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth: for the LORD hath a controversy with his people, and he will plead with Israel.
Hoor julle, o berge, die HERE se twis, en julle sterk fondamente van die aarde: want die HERE het ’n twis met sy volk, en Hy sal met Israel twis.

O my people, what have I done unto thee? and wherein have I wearied thee? testify against me.
o my volk, wat het ek aan jou gedoen? en waarin het ek jou vermoei? getuig teen My.

For I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed thee out of the house of servants; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.
Want ek het jou uit die land van Egipte opgelei, en jou uit die huis van diensknegte verlos; en ek het voor jou Moses, Aäron, en Mirjam gestuur.

O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted, and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal; that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD.
o my volk, onthou nou wat Balak koning van Moab beraadslaag het, en wat Bíleam die seun van Beor hom geantwoord het van Sittim af tot by Gilgal; dat julle die geregtigheid van die HERE mag ken.

Wherewith shall I come before the LORD, [and] bow myself before the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?
Waarmee sal ek voor die HERE kom, en my buig voor die hoë God? sal ek voor Hom kom met brandoffers, met kalwers van ’n jaar oud?
7
Will the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, [or] with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn [for] my transgression, the fruit of my body [for] the sin of my soul?
Sal die HERE behae hê in duisende ramme, of in tien duisende riviere van olie? sal ek my eersgeborene gee vir my oortreding, die vrug van my liggaam vir die sonde van my siel?

He hath shewed thee, O man, what [is] good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
Hy het jou gewys, o mens, wat goed is; en wat die HERE van jou eis, is om reg te doen, en om barmhartigheid lief te hê, en om nederig met jou God te wandel.

The LORD’S voice crieth unto the city, and [the man of] wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and who hath appointed it.
Die HERE se stem roep tot die stad, en die man van wysheid sal u Naam sien: hoor julle die roede, en wie dit aangestel het.

Are there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked, and the scant measure [that is] abominable?
Is daar nog die skatte van goddeloosheid in die huis van die goddelose, en die skrale efa wat verfoeilik is?

Shall I count [them] pure with the wicked balances, and with the bag of deceitful weights?
Sal ek rein rekening met die boos weegskale, en met die sak van bedrieglike gewigte?

For the rich men thereof are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue [is] deceitful in their mouth.
Want die rykes daarvan is vol geweld, en die inwoners daarvan het leuens gespreek, en hulle tong is bedrieglik in hulle mond.
13
Therefore also will I make [thee] sick in smiting thee, in making [thee] desolate because of thy sins.
Daarom sal ek jou ook siek maak deur jou te slaan, deur jou te verwoes vanweë jou sondes.
14
Thou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down [shall be] in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take hold, but shalt not deliver; and [that] which thou deliverest will I give up to the sword.
Jy sal eet, maar nie versadig word nie; en jou vernedering sal in jou midde wees; en jy sal gryp, maar nie wegneem nie; en dit wat jy wegneem, sal ek aan die swaard oorgee.

Thou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink wine.
Jy sal saai, maar jy sal nie oes nie; jy sal die olywe trap, maar jy sal jou nie met olie salf nie; en soet wyn, maar jy sal nie wyn drink nie.

For the statutes of Omri are kept, and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye walk in their counsels; that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof an hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.
Want die insettinge van Omri word bewaar, en al die werke van die huis van Agab, en julle wandel in hulle raadslae; dat ek jou ’n verwoesting mag maak, en die inwoners daarvan ’n gesuis: daarom sal julle die smaad van my volk dra.
