1
To the chief Musician, Altaschith, Michtam of David. Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?
Spreek julle waarlik geregtigheid, o vergadering? oordeel julle opreg, o julle seuns van die mens?

Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.
Ja, in die hart werk julle goddeloosheid; julle weeg die geweld van julle hande in die aarde.

The wicked are estranged from the womb: they go astray as soon as they be born, speaking lies.
Die goddelose is van die baarmoeder af vervreem: hulle dwaal sodra hulle gebore is, en spreek leuens.
4
Their poison [is] like the poison of a serpent: [they are] like the deaf adder [that] stoppeth her ear;
Hulle gif is soos die gif van ‚'n slang: hulle is soos die doofadder wat haar oor toestop;

Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.
Wat nie wil luister na die stem van besweerders nie, wat ooit so vaardig is.

Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.
Breek hulle tande, o God, in hulle mond: breek die groot tande van die jong leeus, o HERE.

Let them melt away as waters [which] run continually: [when] he bendeth [his bow to shoot] his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.
Laat hulle wegsmelt soos waters wat voortdurend wegloop: wanneer hy sy pyle span, laat hulle soos afgesny wees.

As a snail [which] melteth, let [every one of them] pass away: [like] the untimely birth of a woman, [that] they may not see the sun.
Soos ‚'n slak wat oplos, laat elkeen van hulle verbygaan: soos die ontydige geboorte van ‚'n vrou, dat hulle die son nie mag sien nie.

Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in [his] wrath.
Voordat julle potte die dorings kan voel, sal Hy hulle wegruk soos met ‚'n dwarrelwind, beide lewend, en in sy toorn.

The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.
Die regverdige sal juig wanneer hy die wraak sien: hy sal sy voete was in die bloed van die goddelose.

So that a man shall say, Verily [there is] a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.
Sodat ’n man sal sê, Sekerlik is daar ’n beloning vir die regverdige: sekerlik is daar ’n God wat in die aarde oordeel.
