Maschil of Ethan the Ezrahite. I will sing of the mercies of the LORD for ever: with my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.
Ek sal die barmhartighede van die HERE vir ewig sing: met my mond sal ek u getrouheid aan alle geslagte bekend maak.
2
For I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever: thy faithfulness shalt thou establish in the very heavens.
Want ek het gesê, Barmhartigheid sal vir ewig gebou word: u getrouheid sal U in die baie hemele vestig.
3
I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant,
Ek het ’n verbond met my uitverkorene gemaak, ek het aan my dienaar Dawid gesweer,
4
Thy seed will I establish for ever, and build up thy throne to all generations. Selah.
Jou saad sal ek vir ewig vestig, en jou troon tot alle geslagte bou. Sela.
5
And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O LORD: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.
En die hemele sal u wonders prys, o HERE: u getrouheid ook in die vergadering van die heiliges.
6
For who in the heaven can be compared unto the LORD? [who] among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the LORD?
Want wie in die hemel kan met die HERE vergelyk word? wie onder die seuns van die magtiges kan met die HERE gelyk gestel word?
7
God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all [them that are] about him.
God is grootliks te vrees in die vergadering van die heiliges, en te ontsien van almal wat rondom Hom is.
8
O LORD God of hosts, who [is] a strong LORD like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?
O HERE God van leërskare, wie is ’n sterk HERE soos U? of aan u getrouheid rondom U?
9
Thou rulest the raging of the sea: when the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.
U heers oor die bruisende van die see: wanneer die golwe daarvan opstaan, stil U hulle.
10
Thou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; thou hast scattered thine enemies with thy strong arm.
U het Ragab stukkend gebreek soos een wat gewond is; U het u vyande met u sterk arm verstrooi.
11
The heavens [are] thine, the earth also [is] thine: [as for] the world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.
Die hemele is Uwe, die aarde is ook Uwe: wat die wêreld en die volheid daarvan betref, U het hulle gegrondves.
12
The north and the south thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy name.
Die noorde en die suide, U het hulle geskep: Tabor en Hermon sal in u Naam juig.
13
Thou hast a mighty arm: strong is thy hand, [and] high is thy right hand.
U het ’n magtige arm: sterk is u hand, en hoog is u regterhand.
14
Justice and judgment [are] the habitation of thy throne: mercy and truth shall go before thy face.
Geregtigheid en oordeel is die woning van u troon: barmhartigheid en waarheid sal voor u aangesig uitgaan.
15
Blessed [is] the people that know the joyful sound: they shall walk, O LORD, in the light of thy countenance.
Gelukkig is die volk wat die vrolike geluid ken: hulle sal in die lig van u aangesig wandel, o HERE.
16
In thy name shall they rejoice all the day: and in thy righteousness shall they be exalted.
In u Naam sal hulle die hele dag lank juig: en in u geregtigheid sal hulle verhoog word.
17
For thou [art] the glory of their strength: and in thy favour our horn shall be exalted.
Want U is die heerlikheid van hulle sterkte: en in u guns sal ons horing verhoog word.
18
For the LORD [is] our defence; and the Holy One of Israel [is] our king.
Want die HERE is ons verdediging; en die Heilige van Israel is ons koning.
19
Then thou spakest in vision to thy holy one, and saidst, I have laid help upon [one that is] mighty; I have exalted [one] chosen out of the people.
Toe het U in ’n visioen tot u Heilige gespreek, en gesê, Ek het hulp op een gelê wat magtig is; ek het een uitverkore uit die volk.
20
I have found David my servant; with my holy oil have I anointed him:
Ek het Dawid my dienaar gevind; met my heilige olie het ek hom gesalf:
21
With whom my hand shall be established: mine arm also shall strengthen him.
Met wie my hand vas sal wees: my arm sal hom ook versterk.
22
The enemy shall not exact upon him; nor the son of wickedness afflict him.
Die vyand sal hom nie uitpers nie; en die seun van goddeloosheid sal hom nie teister nie.
23
And I will beat down his foes before his face, and plague them that hate him.
En ek sal sy vyande voor sy aangesig neerslaan, en dié wat hom haat, sal ek pla.
24
But my faithfulness and my mercy [shall be] with him: and in my name shall his horn be exalted.
Maar my getrouheid en my barmhartigheid sal by hom wees: en in my Naam sal sy horing verhoog word.
25
I will set his hand also in the sea, and his right hand in the rivers.
Ek sal sy hand ook in die see sit, en sy regterhand in die riviere.
26
He shall cry unto me, Thou [art] my father, my God, and the rock of my salvation.
Hy sal tot My roep, U is my vader, my God, en die rots van my heil.
27
Also I will make him [my] firstborn, higher than the kings of the earth.
Ook sal ek hom my eersgeborene maak, hoër as die konings van die aarde.
28
My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, and my covenant shall stand fast with him.
My barmhartigheid sal ek vir ewig vir hom bewaar, en my verbond sal standvastig by hom wees.
29
His seed also will I make [to endure] for ever, and his throne as the days of heaven.
Sy saad ook sal ek vir ewig maak, en sy troon soos die dae van die hemel.
30
If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments;
As sy kinders my wet verlaat, en nie in my oordele wandel nie;
31
If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments;
As hulle my insettinge ontheilig, en my gebooie nie bewaar nie;
32
Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes.
Dan sal ek hulle oortreding met die roede besoek, en hulle ongeregtigheid met slae.
33
Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.
Nogtans sal ek my liefde nie heeltemal van hom wegneem nie, en my getrouheid nie laat faal nie.
34
My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.
My verbond sal ek nie verbreek nie, en nie verander wat uit my lippe uitgegaan het nie.
35
Once have I sworn by my holiness that I will not lie unto David.
Eenmaal het ek by my heiligheid gesweer dat ek nie aan Dawid sal lieg nie.
36
His seed shall endure for ever, and his throne as the sun before me.
Sy saad sal vir ewig bestaan, en sy troon soos die son voor My.
37
It shall be established for ever as the moon, and [as] a faithful witness in heaven. Selah.
Dit sal vir ewig gevestig word soos die maan, en soos ’n getroue getuie in die hemel. Sela.
38
But thou hast cast off and abhorred, thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.
Maar U het verwerp en verag, U is toornig geword met u gesalfde.
39
Thou hast made void the covenant of thy servant: thou hast profaned his crown [by casting it] to the ground.
U het die verbond van u dienaar verontreinig: U het sy kroon deur dit tot die grond te gooi, verontreinig.
40
Thou hast broken down all his hedges; thou hast brought his strong holds to ruin.
U het al sy heinings afgebreek; U het sy vestings tot verwoesting gebring.
41
All that pass by the way spoil him: he is a reproach to his neighbours.
Almal wat by die weg verbygaan, roof hom: hy is ’n smaad vir sy bure.
42
Thou hast set up the right hand of his adversaries; thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.
U het die regterhand van sy teëstanders verhoog; U het al sy vyande vrolik gemaak.
43
Thou hast also turned the edge of his sword, and hast not made him to stand in the battle.
U het ook die skerpte van sy swaard omgekeer, en hom nie in die geveg laat staan nie.
44
Thou hast made his glory to cease, and cast his throne down to the ground.
U het sy heerlikheid laat ophou, en sy troon tot die grond neergewerp.
45
The days of his youth hast thou shortened: thou hast covered him with shame. Selah.
Die dae van sy jeug het U verkort: U het hom met skaamte bedek. Sela.
46
How long, LORD? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? shall thy wrath burn like fire?
Hoe lank, HERE? sal U uself vir ewig verberg? sal u toorn soos vuur brand?
47
Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain?
Onthou hoe kort my tyd is: waarom het U al die seuns van die mens tevergeefs gemaak?
48
What man [is he that] liveth, and shall not see death? shall he deliver his soul from the hand of the grave? Selah.
Watter man is hy wat lewe, en die dood nie sal sien nie? sal hy sy siel uit die hand van die graf verlos? Sela.
49
Lord, where [are] thy former lovingkindnesses, [which] thou swarest unto David in thy truth?
Here, waar is u vorige liefde, wat U aan Dawid in u waarheid gesweer het?
50
Remember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; [how] I do bear in my bosom [the reproach of] all the mighty people;
Onthou, Here, die smaad van u dienaars; hoe ek in my boesem die smaad van al die magtige volk dra;
51
Wherewith thine enemies have reproached, O LORD; wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.
Waarmee u vyande, o HERE, verwyt het; waarmee hulle die treë van u gesalfde verwyt het.
52
Blessed [be] the LORD for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
Geseënd is die HERE vir ewigmeer. Amen, en Amen.
